Friendly Reminder

Hey all, welcome into the RingerVerse. Just wanted to give a friendly reminder as the sub is growing with members that when you’re posting or commenting to please follow the rules and be kind to each other and our hosts. They are giving us a podcast that we receive for free. Being critical of a host or producer is one thing, but posting and using foul language about the hosts isn’t needed. Let’s be civil. Thanks!

Van is bending over backwards to avoid any criticism of the MCU. We have to be allowed to demand more from these movies

There is a minute long part of the pod that another user posted about below where Van complains about people picking apart the trailer.

The reason that the state of the world is the way it is right now is because we don't draw lines in the sand for quality and accountability. That is how you end up with Donald Trump twice. No one says enough is enough. (F U if you have ever voted for Trump).

Van -- THIS IS HOW YOU END UP WITH STAR WARS SUCKING. THIS IS HOW YOU END UP WITH ANT MAN 3 AND SECRET INVASION etc. etc. You have to be allowed to hold things made by corporations to a standard of quality.

If Avengers Doomsday is bad, and it makes 1-2 billion dollars, then Marvel has no incentive to make better movies. Because there would be, in that case, no accountability and no line drawn in the sand for the quality of the movie. Marvel would be rewarded for making something bad.

Marvel has been releasing below average to flat out bad projects for 7 years. The misses far outweigh the hits.

This trailer is incredibly disappointing.

Random character you don't care about fighting random character you don't care about. Flat bland lighting. Awful blocking and poorly composited shots where characters clearly aren't in the same room. As the internet says, it's all hype moments and aura that don't even work anymore.

You can parse this all out from the trailer. It's okay to say it looks bad ESPECIALLY in comparison to The Odyssey and Dune trailers. It's okay to say it looks low effort, because it looks low effort.

Now, another trailer could come out that showcases an interesting story, with great cinematography, and emotional stakes that aren't just the world is ending. But based on what the Russo's have done recently, plus what marvel has put out recently, that doesn't seem likely.

I want this movie to be good, and I hope I'm wrong. But we HAVE to be able to say "Hey Marvel, we don't want bad, low effort movies anymore."

The MCU doesn't end if the this movie under performs at the box office. BUT the audience holding Marvel accountable for producing slop and this movie underperforming might be the only thing that makes Marvel completely rethink its strategy and prioritize quality.

And unfortunately, the more you watch it, the more this trailer looks like slop.

The boys mentioned Blade never coming out while talking about the batman delay. I still think he'll be in Avengers Secret Wars then Midnight Suns or some other show or movie.

Villeneuve vs. Nolan Debate on Midnight Boys

There was a short, but good debate on the Midnight Boys Odyssey pod about Denis Villeneuve vs. Christopher Nolan.

To me, these two directors are the best in the business at doing very, very good popcorn movies that brings large crowds to the box office. And I think they occupy very rare air in Hollywood in crafting well-made movies that still do well commercially.

I loved the Odyssey but I still prefer peak Denis over Nolan. Blade Runner 2049, Dune I, Dune II, and Sicario hit highs for me that even the best Nolan films do not, and I can't wait to see what Denis does with the Bond franchise after Dune III.

What say you guys? These two directors are the only ones where I will see their movie on opening night at the movie theater. Most other movies, I'll just wait until they hit streaming.

I know beggars can’t be choosers but would’ve loved the House of R Oppenheimer revisit episode before The Odyssey came out

Have done a Nolan rewatch for the last year building towards Odyssey and love their deep dives on all of his work. I rewatched Oppy as my last rewatch on Wednesday anticipating the episode to drop yesterday or today and was hoping to hear their thoughts on what to think about as we go into The Odyssey (seeing tonight).

Oh well, just means more to listen to after the fact! Anyone know when that episode would drop?

Midnight Boys DreamCon Panel/Live show?

Thoughts on the Midnight Boys doing a live show or Panel at DreamCon in the future? I think it would be dope to see the crew in that environment. We at least gotta see how Jomi is pulling up with all the cosplay baddies in the area 😂

I’m smack dab in the middle of season 4. The only thing i look up are the ranking / rating of the episodes… the one I’m about to start is called “Self Control”.

I took a peek at the rest of the season ratings… consistent 9s across the board… which are breaking bad rankings.

I’ll report back when I’m done with the series…

UPDATE: Welp, i guess I’m not sleeping tonight 😭😭😭. That episode was NON-STOP, jaw dropping insanity. Like watching Ozymandias or The Constant. Apparently i didn’t have to worry about 🪀
