Pulled the trigger and bought myself my first dedicated retro handheld console. I have a couple of other consoles, like a PS Vita, Nintendo 2DS XL, and even a Steam Deck OLED, but I cannot force myself to play NES/SNES/other old retro systems on these devices. I ordered it from AliExpress two weeks ago, and they even included the Samsung noname microSD card which was not even listed ))) Also was not expecting it to be this heavy.

So I just got the RG35xx pro for $ 35
So I’m going to return the other two back to Amazon. Iike the size of the RG35xx pro more than they other ones. I’m just going to see if they all have the same roms.

I got this crazy set up to work. I know that many people will question why I'm choosing to even have an entry level Dell Chromebook 3100 in this set up at all. The easy answer: I'm broke and I don't own a tv. I was recently released from federal prison and am getting on my feet.

That being said, I wanted to share my set up with you. I truly didn't think I would be able to get this to work. But check it out. I am using my Anbernic RG40XX H like a regular game console. I bought a HDTV HDMI Video Capture card. My chromebook does not have any HDMI inputs, so I had to use the capture card. I also had to get a HDMI to Mini HDMI cable that runs from my Anbernic console to the capture card. I also have a knock off wired game console going into the type c input of my anbernic.

Once I have everything connected, I then had to go onto a website called NERDZAP. I had to use this site to see and hear the images coming from my Anbernic. And it works.

I actually had some guys tell me this couldn't be done on another post, but i made it happen with the help of Chat GPT4. And my computer looks like hospital patient with all these wires and cords coming out of it. I dont really know how to upload videos on here, but if I can figure out how, I'll gladly post one. But these are pictures of my set up.

I was also able to just go and get the RetroArch emulator on my computer, and that is what I did for quite awhile. But I already have thousand of games on my console, including the completely full 128gb micro sd card that has tons of Sega Dreamcast, PS1, PSP and Segat Saturn games on it. Not to mention the NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, N64, and yes, Virtual Boy games I went and downloaded myself. Also, my Anbernic seems to run most of these roms better than my chromebook does. Granted, the Chromebook has a more robust CPU, but the CPU isn't completely dedicated to gaming. So playing games in this ridiculous way seems to work. And it will do until I can finally upgrade my system and get a decent TV.

Anyways. I just wanted to share this with you. I'm quite excited because there was some trial and error that went into making this work. Today, I got it working. And it all came down to the website I ended up using to get both Video and Sound to work. For a few days, I could only get the video to work. Then I decided to stop asking Google AI. Went and asked Chat GPT and that AI got my stuff working on the first try.

Side note. Google AI has absolutely no problems giving you false information and straight up lie to you. Plus, it loves giving me outdated information. For some reason it thinks that I am using some ancient version of ChromeOS. I can't tell you how many times it sent me to a location on my chromebook, what I'm trying to find not being there, then tell me how there were lots of changes in the latest updates to ChromeOS. Like, really? Why not just tell me the latest info on the latest OS?

So I had the 36H and was very happy with it.

I'm looking for new one that I can fit easily in my pockets and run around with for under 100 bucks.

The only precondition is that the analog stick(s) (at least the left one) has to be on the upper side so I don't get cramps playing.

The Anbernic RG DS was a big hit but unfortunately it has a buzzing noise even with 0 volume which is a no-go.

So I appreciate advice 'cause I can't find anything.

I really don’t understand the ecosystem here and would love a recommendation. I don’t need to play larger titles as I have a laptop and PC with enough power. Really just looking for people’s recommendation between these two.

Hey, I'm heading into college real soon and would like to take a retro handheld with me.

I'm looking for something pocketable for quick sessions, chipping at RPGs, and longer games.

A good battery would be nice; I really considered the Miyoo Mini Flip, but the short playtime I felt may be a recurring nuisance.

Don't care for it to play any higher than PSP at max, but I primarily want something with a good aspect ratio for SNES and GBA.

Finally, some relatively quiet buttons would be needed for library and bed gaming.

Hello everyone! I have been working on this project for quite some time, building my own custom modular handheld console for gaming & everyday PC use, running dual boot Linux & Windows! I am currently working on the prototypes, so I thought it would be a great time to share an update of what I have been building with everyone here! It is called the CG Deck, an open-source and modular x86 handheld PC. Also, thank you so incredibly much to everyone that has been supporting and is a part of our community! You are all so amazing, I truly appreciate each and every one of you so much!

I have been working on a ton of polish & adjustments to the CG Deck, based on the testing I have been able to do over the past couple weeks! Spent this past weekend playing some games like Skyrim, Hollow Knight: Silksong, A little bit of emulation, and some blender tests! A few of the new additions and updates, include some improvements to the modules, adding a magnetic system to make it easier to connect and swap the various modules! A few new modules are also in the works, and I will have more information about those coming very soon! Along with that, I have also begun creating and concepting a few different carrying cases for the CG Deck and the various modules and accessories so I will be sharing those very soon. I will have a ton of information and updates coming out over the next couple of days to everyone on our waitlist so be sure to keep an eye our for that!

My initial goal was to create a small handheld PC that was entirely self contained and can be thrown in a backpack or back pants pocket (The entire device is 7.4" x 4.6" x 2.25"), with a high enough standard of hardware capable of being actually useful for things like high end retro emulation, CAD design/doing light modelling tasks in Blender, PCB design, coding, graphic design, music, video editing, and gaming with my steam library! Because it runs an x86 architecture, we get the advantage of being able to natively play steam games unlike a lot of other consoles. Because the CG Deck is based on an x86 architecture, you can run any OS that is supported, like the backlog of Windows, most Linux distro flavors, etc. For those that have multiple workflows, or need multiple devices, you can utilize the dual-boot functionality built into the CG Deck to make your life easier and keep it all under one shell.

I also wanted the CG Deck to be modular so it can be upgraded depending on how it is being used, and adapt the device depending on the workflow. For example, upgrading the memory with a full sized 2280 SSD, LTE/sim card support for work on the road, in addition to more cosmetically functional changes like swapping out the face/back plates to change the look, upgrading and swapping the HID control modules, antennas for extended connection range, etc. Every aspect can be upgraded, repaired, or customized as you need, without needing a degree in engineering to do so. I wanted to not just develop a device that would not just eventually turn into e-waste, but an ecosystem that can be updated and developed as time passes to keep the CG Deck relevant for much longer than the typical device lifespan. Something more attuned to a platform that grows with you rather than a traditional device.

The CG Deck will release with 5 total external modules (two slots, the primary and secondary slots), a variety of backplate designs and colors, and a variety of hardware and external accessories/upgrades. As for the modules, I currently have designed a full 64 Keyboard Module, 10 Key + Knob Macropad Module, Gamepad Controller Module all for the primary slot. For the secondary slot, there is only the trackball module at this time. The CG Deck also supports USB-A modules, so far including a 4K Low Low Light Flappable Camera Module. I wanted to make a device that grows with you as you use it, and can be adapted as your use cases change, and I have quite a few more modules planned for release once we officially launch!

As for the current state of the prototype for the CG Deck, I am overall really happy with it so far, but it still needs some work and I have quite a few changes to make as we prepare for the DFM process. I would love to hear your thoughts on it everything so far, and if you have any questions or feedback, I would love to answer and hear it all! Ask me anything!

I also will be publishing a behind the scenes video going through the entire project from the initial concept, CAD design, 3d printing and prototyping, assembly tests, and every step in between to this point of the engineering prototype!

So I've been checking out some reviews lately as I am looking to upgrade to a larger screen and a bit more power than my aging RP3+

I will exclusively use the device for emulation up to PS2. I'd like to be able to upscale as much as possible while maintaining a high frame rate. I don't need any fancy bells or whistles or gimmicks.

I've been eyeing a few models, like the RP6, odin 2 portal, or even odin 3. Ideally I'd like to be under 300$, but it's negotiable for the right fit.

Anyone have any insight or alternative recommendations? Anything new in the future expected? Any glaring flaws with some models? Thanks!

Hey, I'm searching for a retro handheld in a horizontal form factor. I mostly want to play Snes and maybe some N64 games. The Anbernic RG40XXH was looking pretty good but with taxes it would be 90€. Any other good handhelds in that price range, what about Magmi Air X?

title speaks for itself. idc if it has micro sd's or low storage. ill put my own with retro arch in it. i also dont care what website its from. ill ask my friend to buy it, dont give me scam sites tho.
