Links to the website formerly known as Twitter will no longer be allowed on r/RavenGuard40k

Links to X/Twitter will not be allowed on r/RavenGuard40k with immediate effect. This also includes screenshots.

In light of recent events and the continuing path that platform is taking to make the user experience for Redditors less than ideal (such as now requiring accounts to view posts), combined with news sources also moving to other sites, X/Twitter links are no longer allowed in this community.

As we do with all policies we will evaluate in the future.

Hanging up Shadowmark Talon for now

I've been trying to make Shadowmark Talon work for over a year, and aside from a few months last year, it just doesn't perform.

I played two games today with Shadowmark + Vengeful Host today. One game I ran disruption and the other take and hold. Our detachment doesn't do much with flamers and ignores cover being popular right now. Plus we lose our detachment bonus when the enemy gets close.

The points increases today nuked my list. Vanguard veterans feel worse but went up in points. Vengeful Host being take and hold seems like a bad choice. Disruption is the worst disposition in the game right now. I expected a change to Shadowmark and Vanguard Spearhead today considering we effectively lost half our detachments with the changes to cover but nothing.

My two games today were by far the worst Ravenguard have felt in awhile.

Discussion Take & Hold with Vengeful Host great with both the Vanguard Spearhead and Shadowmark Talon Detachments?

At a glance, not only buffing our JP Infantry makes it a great Detachment, but it being Take & Hold seems like a nasty and effective combo when combined with the -1 to Hit that both Detachments have on top of Shrike and Aethon abilities. Is anyone else considering this combo or is it not worth it?

Discussion Dataslate changes, 10 VV is 50pts more than JPI and Celerity now only works outside engagement but does work first turn.

Over all my list has gone over 45pts... not sure what im going to cut.

Librarians up, VV up, Centurions Dev with Las up, Inceptors up, Lieutenant with Combi up, Sternguard up... now i dont want to take it personally but with nothing I use down i feel like someone at GW has it in for us 😕....

Edit: now im thinking Fusillade on a Phobos Librarian with Eliminators might be more interesting. With Stunning Fusillade that's 3 shots hitting on 2s even vs Cover with Sustained 1, 6s being lethal with ap4 is basically auto damage vs anything with only a 3+ (no invuln or 2+ save).

Thats probably about 2d6 damage on average with potential to spike, so no where near what it was but is interesting...

Question How should I build an army?

I want to get into warhammer, and I like the idea of the raven guard very much. Alot of the post I've been seeing say to start with the combat patrol and work from there, but the combat patrol is out of stock everywhere and from what I heard it won't be making a return to shelves. Should I just get base space marines and get the raven guard add ons and I heard the combat patrol released last year in September so should I wait a couple more months to see if they release anything else this year?

Jump pack intercessors vs Vanguard veterans

Trying to get into RG but the main units I like looks kinda similar, I'm guessing the Veterans go forward and kill and the intercessors are more tacticals, but then the JPI have mortals on charge so I wanna charge with them

Can you help me to know for what I should use each unit?

Most recent squad finished! I used to really not like Inceptors and thought they were ugly but I made some modifications and these ended up being my favourite looking unit so far!

I suck at taking pictures and in person I like these a lot more though from now on I'm going to stop using varnish as I don't like how it's changing the look of the armour

Getting close to 1k points Raven Guard and hopefully the multipart Vanguard Vets come out soon as I'm planning to do 20 of those! (please GW give us lightning claws)

Question How exactly do the Ravenguard use stealth?

Maybe this sub can help me. But how exactly do Ravenguard marines keep themselves hidden act do stealth attacks?

I know during the HH some members had a similar ability to Corax where he could force someone's brain to not register him.

But as far as I am aware this was very rare and seems to no longer be a thing the RG can do.

So how do 8ish ft tall Marines conceal themselves, do they use advanced tech camo, or Invisibility generators?

I've tried looking it up and all I get are claims that they are stealthy.

So if someone could help, preferably with quotes to back it up that would be appreciated.

Guidance requested: 11th edition tips for a newbie against Death Guard, T'au, and Grey Knights.

Still somewhat new to playing but not new to the building and painting aspect of our hobby. I'm hoping 11th edition will finally be the time for me to get a full game in.

Asking our veteran RG brothers if they can impart any general philosophies or strats against these opposing armies:

Death Guard

T'au

Grey Knights

As you can see I'm working to get a number of unique units to fill out the various companies. I do have the Armageddon box in case there are some sexy units there that could help my game day at the beginning of next month.

Right now it's friendly, but I have a feeling my friends are prepping to win. So I'm looking for collective intelligence to help prepare for the day. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to share a tip or two.
