Hello everyone, I'm an international student coming to the US, Rapid City, next month to study at Mines. I would appreciate any advice / tips on the following:
I started looking for apartments. I heard that the South is the safest place, so I'm looking there. Is that true? And what is the average price in that region. Also, any tips on how to find a good place are appreciated. I also wanna know the prices of groceries and utilities.
Also, I'm planning to get a car as I heard that public transport is not always reliable and walking is supper difficult/unsafe, especially in the winter. (I'm not used to extreme colds lol). So if you have any advice on getting a decent used car (stores/prices etc) or any general tips. Also, any information on the process of getting a drivers license.

I'm looking for a reputable place to get 6 Oldsmobile steelies sandblasted for a reasonable price. They're 14” wheels, so I'd imagine they could fit in most blasting cabinets. Anywhere in the Rapid City or black hills area would work for me.
Last case scenario, I get a pancake air compressor and gravity bucket blaster from Harbor freight, but I'd rather not do that.

Hello! Does anyone have any recommendations for Rapid City dentists for my 18 year old? Since she is an adult she has phased out of her ped dentist we now need to look for a new one.
Thank you!

I've got a friend visiting soon and he is determined to try Rocky Mountain Oysters and Chislic while he is in town. Where are the best places around Rapid City to take him?

So I had an issue with RCES 4 years ago when Medicaid didn't pay the ED provider bill because my name was put down instead of my son's on the insurance claim. Here I am AGAIN, but with different insurance (Healthpartners...IYKYK), and the exact same billing error seems to have been made but with my other kiddo. I have called both the RCES billing number TWICE and Healthpartners once. HP said this is a common occurrence and that it is a billing error on the part of RC Emergency Services. RCES has resubmitted the claim TWICE and Healthpartners keeps denying it and kicking it back to me saying they couldn't locate the policy. Nothing has changed with the policy... I'm still employed, etc., etc. I get an email this evening saying it was denied again. At this point, I'm sure the bill will end up in collections and I'll get sued AGAIN and I'll go to court AGAIN and win AGAIN, but considering it is such a huge waste of time and energy, I would rather they all figure this crap out and stop with the damn errors.
Anyone else been through this? My theory is they intentionally make these mistakes, no one corrects them, then they sue, the guarantor doesn't show up to court, they get an automatic judgement, and then get their wages garnished. Would it even be beneficial to counter sue for the time it costs me to fight this? I'm not paying $719 that I don't owe. My deductible AND out of pocket max had already been reached for that plan year, so I should owe $0.

Has anyone else seen a huge increase in their water bill recently? Our usage hasn't changed at all. According to the online portal, we're using about the same amount of water as we did this time last year. Our bill has always been around $50–$70, but these past couple months it jumped to almost $130. I've checked for leaks, inspected the water meter in our house, and everything seems normal. When I called the water department, they basically said that if we've already checked for leaks and the meter looks fine, there wasn't much else they could do. They offered to send someone out, but it would cost around $400. Has anyone else experienced this recently or figured out what was causing it? I'd appreciate any advice or ideas.

Hey guys, I have a few gold rings with gemstones (looks like ruby, sapphire, emerald) that I'd like to have identified. Is there anyone in town that can help? I do not need an appraisal or a gem report, just somewhere I can take them to be identified and possibly told whether they are lab or natural. Thanks!

Is anyone using their own modem/router with Midco? I'm getting pretty fed up with mine, which is rented from them. When it's up and running it does fine. But whenever there's a power outage, it almost never reconnects properly. I'm thinking of buying my own to use, but haven't done that yet.
Unlike pretty much any cable modem I've had in the past, which will continue trying to reconnect, this one just seems fail to connect and then freeze up. When this happens the whole security system is offline, and if we're out of town it stays that way until we get back or we can get someone to go by and reboot the router. And booting this thing up takes a LONG time - I've never had one that takes more than maybe a minute or two to boot, and this one sometimes takes 20 minutes. Seems crazy.

Hello we are in town this weekend visiting with my family from the Chicago area. My husband and boys are huge sports fans and want to watch the World Cup final. Where is there a good place to watch it? My husband said he might’ve seen there was going to be a watch party at the Main Square in downtown? Can anyone confirm or provide suggestions on where we can watch? Thanks so much!

In November - January I'll (20F) be moving to Rapid City for college and I was hoping for some advice! I'm from Indiana and I've never even been this far away from my state for a trip, so it's newer to me. Me and my family are just leaving Rapid City from a tour of the place and looking at apartments, and I honestly think it's super beautiful. I think I would really love living here but ofc there's more to living somewhere because it's nice.
- What are some things that I should watch out for or be aware of?
- What are police like and how is the state protected/taken care of?
- What are good places to visit ?
- Or even just some small advice that you think I should know!
Also not necessary but any tips or things to do to make friends? I'm more of an introverted person and also a bit shy so I've always struggled with making friends and putting myself out there, and all my friends in hs attend college or are staying in Indiana.
Another side note, I really enjoy cars and motorcycles, and just the other night I saw a lot of motorcycles and classic cars out cruising and it looked like a meet up too. Is this something that happens a lot, it was super cool to see and I loved watching them fly past me. I don't personally have a motorcycle (unfortunately) and while my car is nice it's not really a show car either, but I would still love to be a part of something like that or meet people even if it's more from a sideline!

Does anyone know if the Rocky Horror Picture Show is showing at the Elks theatre this year again? I don't remember if they did it last year, but I know they stopped for a few years
Edit: I know it's a bit early to know for sure, I was just thinking about it today

Hi everyone! I’m researching local cases from Rapid City and the Black Hills area for a true crime project and I’m hoping to hear from the community.
I’m interested in learning about cases that people feel deserve more attention — unsolved mysteries, lesser-known crimes, or stories that have stayed with the community over the years.
I want to approach every story respectfully and focus on verified information while highlighting the impact these cases have had locally.
If there is a case you think deserves to be looked into, please comment below or message me. I’ll also have a submission form available for anyone who would prefer to share details privately.
Thank you for helping bring attention to local stories that matter.

Does anyone know what's going on with Colonial House? Are they closing? I will miss their delicious food if so. 😭
