Our CT scans of the JLab JBuds mini earbuds revealed some serious flaws: poorly aligned electrodes, inconsistent anode overhang, and some that look torn or damaged. In lithium batteries, these are the kinds of defects that can shorten lifespan and potentially cause a thermal runaway.

I was actually considered a surgical candidate as a child, but my parents chose bracing instead so I could continue playing competitive sports. I wore a brace from ages 11–15, but unfortunately it didn’t stop my curves from progressing. Looking back, I honestly wish I’d had the surgery—I live with daily pain now…. although, let’s be honest, a lot of us in radiology are anyway.

I’m not sure if I’m the only one questioning ARRT, but comparing it to nursing raises some concerns. Radiologic technologists generally make less annually, yet we often pay more each year for recertification. We also have more CE requirements and a 10-year reassessment, which adds even more cost. In many states, nurses don’t even need CE to renew. There are roughly 5.7 million licensed nurses in the U.S. compared with about 370,000 ARRT registrants, so nurses are about 15 times larger. Even so, the ARRT board and executive compensation are not 15 times lower, which makes the cost burden on RTs feel even less balanced.

The undergraduate course for radiography that we need to do involves 1680 hours over out 4 year course 😥 - on the higher end of allied health courses.

So this is a nice change (although it starts from next year and I'll probably miss a placement block before then) it's much better than nothing

I’m a 1st year student in my 2nd quarter of clinicals and I’ve just gotta ask cause I’ve seen it both ways so I’m just wondering, when you all place markers do you typically put it on the patient or in the table/Bucky? I guess it’s what the situation calls for it but I swear I have trouble doing markers for a Spot or on the l-spine lol. I do good about not getting it in the anatomy and definitely more obvious exams like PA Chest it’s fine. Although sometimes they get cut off in certain exams (or blown out sometimes???) Still learning though just thought I should ask. The equipment is here is a little off too in terms of going by the light field so I’ve been having to put them in the Bucky. I definitely have had more luck putting it on the patient for certain exams in my first site but I am trying to get used to putting them in the Bucky cause the techs here like doing that. (I’m in a limited tech at the moment so I’m just doing basic exams so no portables or anything. Yes I plan on bridging!)

Saw someone else post their scoliosis and wanted to share mine. Here is one of my rads. I was born with scoliosis (was in a brace by two years old) and unfortunately now have a decent amount of degeneration all throughout my spine at 27. They don’t want to do surgery as they said I’d have to be fused from base of my skull to my tail bone (my cervical region is affected as well) and due to my age, they don’t want to take away what mobility I have.
MRI revealed multisegmental disc degeneration and bulging discs in my neck (from c3-c6) as well as broad-based central disc protrusion, uncovertebral arthrosis, canal stenosis, and bilateral neuroforaminal stenosis.

I receive nerve blocks as needed for pain currently as well as prescription nsaids and muscle relaxers and am on a weight loss journey.

Next week is not only MRI Safety Week, it's also the 25th anniversary of the infamous Michael Colombini / Westchester Medical Center fatal MRI accident.

What is the difference between MRI endometriosis protocol vs normal pelvis protocol? Can someone explain in layman terms

This was a pre-op X-ray of a friend's child, taken 20 years ago before her scoliosis surgery. Sorry, I don't have an after. (And I have full permission from both my friend and her now adult daughter). She says she had no symptoms and they only found out about it after an asthma related CXR...

My mum is a radiologist and as the tech person in the family I'm usually the one she calls for help with computer stuff. One thing she often asked me to was adding shortcuts to reserach papers and society guidelines. So I built her a news aggregator called https://radpigeon.news/ It pulls from 44 radiology sources and generates a short summary of each article, and you can bookmark things to a read-later list.

Mum says she's happy with it, but she's also my mum, so I'm not sure to what extent is it actually useful and how can I improve it for for her. Since I don't work in radiology myself, I'd really value feedback from people in the field:

• Is it actually usable from a radiologist's perspective? Is anything missing that you'd expect from a tool like this?
• Are the summaries accurate and written in a way that's useful to you?
• Which sources matter most to you. Am I covering the right ones?

To be clear: this is purely a hobby project. It's free, there's nothing to buy, no ads, cookies, etc. I just want to build something useful for my mum.

I've had feedback that a lot of the radiologists where I work hated the Philips SpeechMike for ergonomic reasons. They say the recording accuracy is really good but they keep reverting to the Nuance Powermics (which aren't made anymore) because the Philips ones hurt their hands after extended use.

What would you give all your colleagues if you had a choice? (And presumably liked them.)

Any dictation microphones that you hate and I should avoid giving them?

I have MD and active license, but I never did specialisation. I was working as data analyst and Python programmer. I love writing code, solve logical puzzles, working with data and interested in AI related projects. For various reasons I consider going back to medicine and start residency in radiology. Question - since I really love programming, are there opportunities for that? I heard that there are many AI IT projects in radiology. Will I be able to use my Python and programming skills as radiologist? I definetely don't want to lose connection with my love for programming.

Cool images of my ovarian cyst. This was last Thursday. It grew to from 6.0 to about 6.8 in two days. I will see how much it grew in a week.

Symptoms: frequent urination, right side pelvic pain, radiating down my leg, back pain, bloating. Another follow up Thursday, hopefully it can be removed. The possibility of torsion gives me anxiety daily!!

My 4 year old was just diagnosed with kohlers disease (avascular necrosis of the navicular bone) and just thought I’d share his teeny foot. (We have already seen ortho)
