What GPA is generally competitive for an entry legal job in Australia?

Hello, I am currently studying law and my have a GPA around 4.4-4.5. I have struggled with some law exams despite completing past exams, going through them with a private tutor and attending most tutorials with preparation

I was wondering what GPA is generally considered competitive for legal clerkship, government jobs, graduate programs, legal trainee postilion and other entry level legal potions

I am older than many students, because I changed degrees, and I do not have much working or volunteering experience. My experience includes alter service for about one to two years, table tennis volunteering for two months and working as a chess coach for about a year.

Also, I do not have extensive mooting experience, I only participated in one internal moot, and was a semi-finalist for that moot.

I think I have three or four semesters left before I graduate. I am hoping to improve my GPA, but I was wondering whether my current GPA and experience would make it difficult to obtain a job in the legal profession.

Would legal assistant, paralegal, small-firm, government or graduate roles still be realistic for me? What should I focus before graduating to improve my chances?

Any honest and constructive advice would be appreciated.

Than you

How long does it take for student fees to process?

Basically I paid 93 dollars for my student amenity fees (I’m on HECS) but for some reason the money I paid hasn’t shown up yet? I know it’s been paid for bc the money is out of my account. Do I just wait a few days? I’m kinda worried about having to pay that amount again somehow.

Why does QUT have so many ethnic Lecturers / Tutors

Firstly I want to say I've got no issue with this. Im just asking genuine question from what I've observed. I've been doing construction management at QUT for a year now and haven't met a single teaching staff with an Australian accent. Is this a bit strange? Again, I seriously don't care, it's just an observation.

Good afternoon, I’ve been studying for my deferred lsb142 exam for a couple of weeks now, but I feel as if I haven’t accomplished anything. Just wanted to ask if anyone had any tips or suggestions to help me study for this exam as the amount of content is quite overwhelming.

EGB240/1 and Full time Work

Hi, is it possible to complete EGB240 and 241 while working full time?

Not in terms of work load, I just mean is there compulsory sessions you must attend?

If so do they have time slots that someone working a traditional 9-5 would be able to attend?

Thanks!

Education Degree - policy and practices

Hey all, I am in my second year of Bachelor of Secondary education (hpe as one of my teaching areas).

I am realising that I am starting to fall in love with educational practice and pedagogy more broadly rather than a specific teaching area. Don't get me wrong, HPE is an awesome teaching area, but I find education practices very interesting. I wanna know if there is an education specific degree at QUT for someone who doesn't necessarily want to be a teacher...? If that makes sense.

Comic book group?

Was wondering if anyone at QUT wanted to start a comic book group/book club. i started reading them about a year ago but none of my friends are really into it, so was wondering if anyone at uni reads them. If your interested reply and we can find a time to meet up or lmk if a similar group already exists that may not be a 'proper' qut club.

I know there is a general book club but it seems very brigerton booktok esque and dont think they're going to be reading much batman, aswell as a manga and anime club but thats not really my thing either.

Is there anything i can do? The unit outlines from between the units look exactly the same so i feel like my chances are good enough, and no it’s not my first semester of study but im supposed to be graduating this sem.

QUT Kinda Sucks

I'm a first-year student, so I've only done one semester so far, and maybe I just need to give it more time, but from my experience thus far, QUT kinda sucks.

For context, I'm a design student (specifically vis com).

A lot of the content seems to be recycled from previous years, and there have been a few cases where things have had the wrong info because they have just copy and pasted last year's things. Any new content seems to be just pushing AI, which is insanely ironic given that it's likely to take over our future jobs

Most of my lectures are online and they are consistently impossible to find, are never uploaded on time and occasionally don't even get uploaded at all. E.g. this morning's lecture was supposed to be live on Zoom, but it wasn't listed anywhere in the Zoom tab or on Canvas at all. The only thing I could find at all related to this lecture was 'cloud recording' clips ranging from 4 seconds to 5 minutes that all had no audio. They iterated so many times that it's really important to watch the lectures, but they're so impossible to find, and there's no mention of where the recording of the Zoom lecture will be uploaded.

The last and most common complaint I hear is how unhelpful the majority of the tutors/lecturers are, the feedback is always ambiguous or often contradicts itself, and when you have real issues, they refuse to help. For every design student, the entire Adobe suite is assumed knowledge. Most of my classmates had never touched InDesign (which is notoriously difficult to learn), but were expected to make a well-designed 20-page document. I have a friend who switched universities because she couldn't put up with QUT's inadequate teaching staff.

I want to know if other faculty also like this,

Public park with gym near QUT GP

So I am a new student and currently don't have any source of income but I want to workout, and I've observed that a lot of public parks have a small free gym with pull ups bars and stuff.

Does anybody know if there's one near Gardens Points campus? Or any similar place in the botanical garden or near central station?

QUT vs Griffith for bachelor's of animation

I’m trying to decide between QUT Bachelor of Creative Arts (Animation) and Griffith Bachelor of Animation and was wondering what the main differences are between the two courses.

From what I’ve heard, Griffith seems to focus more on 2D animation, storyboarding, and traditional animation skills, while QUT seems to lean more towards 3D animation, VFX, and industry/production-focused skills.

For anyone who has studied at either university:

  • Which course do you think is better overall?
  • Do the courses actually differ that much in practice?
  • If you went to QUT, have you ever wished you chose Griffith instead (or vice versa)?
  • What made you choose your university?
  • How are the job outcomes and industry connections after graduating?

I already have a decent foundation in Blender and 2D art, so I’m interested in which course would give me the best skills and career opportunities.

#Save the QUT Kelvin Grove pool from closure - Seeking QUT students and staff to share thoughts

I am a member of FLOAT, a community group fighting to protect our local aquatic facilities and community swimming spaces.

As you likely know, QUT recently announced the permanent closure of the Kelvin Grove Fitness and Aquatic Centre pool, effective Tuesday 1 September 2026, to clear the space for a new high-performance gym and research facility.

Because this is the only 25m indoor pool on Brisbane's northside, we know this decision has caught many people off guard—from students who rely on it for daily training to local families, seniors, and rehabilitation patients.

FLOAT is currently gathering local perspectives to better understand and highlight the impact this closure will have on the community, especially with Centenary Pool also closing around the exact same time. We would love to quickly interview QUT students, faculty, staff, and inner-north residents.

What’s involved:
A short, casual 10–15 minute conversation.

Can be done via Reddit chat, email, Zoom/Teams, over the phone or of course poolside in person!

Your responses can remain completely anonymous if you prefer.

Whether the closure disrupts your routine, ruins your winter fitness plans, or forces you to travel all the way to Gardens Point or Newmarket, your voice matters.

If you are willing to share your thoughts, please drop a comment below or send me a direct message (DM).

If you haven't already, please also consider signing the community petition to pause the closure on https://www.change.org/p/save-the-kelvin-grove-pool

Thank you for your time!

Second semester starts tomorrow, and I still haven't made any friends yet.

I'm a second year civil engineering student (I had to bridge into my course unfortunately) and I still haven't made any friends. Do you have any tips for meeting people this semester? Also will it be harder to make friends now that I'm in my second semester?

dean's comms release

i received my final grades 2 weeks ago but did an informal review with my UC on monday this week, which lead to a change in my final grade for one of my units and my semester GPA (6.67, which based on my research i believe is eligible for a dean's comms)

was wondering what the dean's comms criteria are (how many credits, awarded on semester or cumulative gpa, etc.) and when is it gonna be released? is it just gonna be a digital certificate or any physical celebration?

My First semester was miserable and lonely. Q and A

What subject do I do? Straight Law

Did I pass? Yes I did (barely)

Did I make any new friends? Not really, mostly acquaintances who didn't really seem to connect with me all that much. I would say Kebabs were more of a friend to me.

Did I make good use of my time during the semester? No. I took notes, went to classes and went home. Then I procrastinated and over-stressed myself to mental and physical exhaustion.

Did I find any clubs I liked or attended any events? Not really, maybe one or two but it made me feel even lonelier.

Did I make something of myself in the first half of the year? No, I just felt more clingy about leaving high school and hitting 18 didn't make me feel any different. And also I now barely talk to people. I don't even have the heart to talk to people anymore.

Did I improve my mental health in this first semester? No. I hate my life and wish their was a club where losers like myself could come together. I am also officially moving from a former extrovert to a full omnivert. Potentially introverted if I wasn't horrendously depressed.

Will I become an Incel? Thankfully not. I still share the same political beliefs I did before turning 18.

How can Improve next semester? Maybe might join a few more clubs... or contemplate dying alone.

Has anyone done this subject and know approximately which weeks are compulsory for tutorial attendance? I work the days the tutorial falls on and I can’t really change my work schedule 😔
