Hi all, I need some advice. I have consulted my malpractice insurance carrier on this, but still would like some feedback from other psychologists...

My client is asking me to fill out a disability form for his insurance company, and my malpractice (the Trust) said I cannot state that his psychological condition prevents him from doing the work, essentially giving him a disability. I can state what his symptoms and diagnoses are, and that it would make sense that those would impair his ability to do functions as described by his job description. But I can't state that he specifically can't do the job.

His attorney has now sent a questionnaire that specifically states "do you agree that he is unable to perform the duties of his job", along with the insurance company's Long Term Disability Claim From, both of which I believe I cannot fill out.

Has anyone else had this happen? Am I correct here in my stance?

I am a registered psychologist in Canada. My regulatory body says that I need to be registered with them to see people in my province, but it does not care if I see people outside of my province.

I have a client that is going to see family in Italy for 6 weeks. She wants virtual sessions with me while she is away. Does anyone know what Italian state regulatory bodies say about clinicians from other places providing services to people while they are temporarily in Italy? I'm waiting for her to tell me what specific state she will be in, if that affects it. I tried to figure it out myself and really struggled to figure out the answer.

Hi all!! I am looking for books or trainings that focus on bipolar disorders, personality disorders, or BPD. I am still a provisional/associate counselor and looking for recommendations for these areas. I don’t have a lot of experience clients wise in these populations and want to be better about being able to notice the signs and characteristics of clients who experience these disorders. I definitely think I have clients with these disorders but I need more education on them.

I just had a bad experience with something called Therathink and left a service that worked well but which only paid 100 dollars a session no matter what the insurance paid (Psychiatric Alternatives). I’m a licensed School Psychologist currently working in Puerto Rico, and I’m exploring a move to Florida. I recently applied for the Florida certification and wanted to reach out to see if anyone here has gone through this process before, especially anyone who made the transition from Puerto Rico.
A bit about my background: I hold a Master’s degree in School Psychology from Albizu University and am currently licensed to practice in Puerto Rico. I work for a private corporation that provides psychological services under contract with the Department of Education here.
I’m considering the move because of some ongoing challenges in my current position. My company has repeatedly had trouble processing payments to specialists during July and December. Additionally, I’m working under a professional services arrangement, which means no benefits, and after taxes (a 10% deduction) I take home around $5,000 a month. On top of that, I currently have a caseload of 91 students, which makes the workload very demanding.
Given all of this, I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has:

Annoyed while reading a psychological testing report which was used as part of the grounds for dismissing a client of mine from his job. The test was conducted under supervision of a Ph.D. psychologist, and the tests used were the MBTI, an Enneagram based measure, the MMPI-2, and a projective sentence completion test. I get that the Enneagram is not -completely- lacking in validity, but as a very solidly trained statistician, I cannot for the life of me think of a way to test its underlying basis (the 9 types, wings etc). So many better measures could have been used. And the testing company that did it, from the looks of their stationery, does a lot of this kind of stuff. I'd love to hear a reframe that helps me be less annoyed at unscientific, suboptimal practice.

I'm sure this topic has been talked about to death already but I'm hoping to hear others' experiences at this point in the AI-verse. Maybe I'm late to the party but is anyone else feeling like the art, dedication, theoretical foundations of mental health care are hanging on by a thread at this point? I recently started working with a company that uses AI heavily for clinical assessments and it feels so artificial and corporate. Quantity out-weighs quality and it seems like actual human providers won't be necessary at all within the next year or two. A monkey could do this kind of crap. What's more disheartening is that several people in the company seem to be totally fine with putting minimum effort into case conceptualization and are happy with charging over a grand to have AI spit out a report. I don't know what else to call it besides a McDonaldization of psychotherapy and assessment. I'd love to hear others' thoughts and I appreciate any advice or related commentary.

Has anyone applied for the HSP Credentialing and found that it expedited the insurance credentialing process?

I have no idea now where to start, because back when I got out of college, I did the course to become a "Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist", and that was it... A veteran of mine from college invited me to start at his clinic. So I basically got "ready" patients.

I am studying now, got 6 months, and I think I am ready to get back on the horse. And I used to enjoying very much, helping others.

I am from Rio de Janeiro (male 46). And in here psych is 5 years college + 1 year for CBT

Hi, I used to work at a hospital and did pre procedure evals for things like spinal cord stimulators and bariatric surgery. I'm going to be opening a private practice that is self pay only and I'm going to start with therapy, but my longer-term goal is to get back into these types of evaluations because I really enjoy them. Does anyone know if there is a market for patients to self pay for these vs using insurance?

Psychologists in private practice: I recently formed a Professional Corporation (P.C.) for my therapy practice. I also plan to offer non-clinical coaching (unregulated, not tied to my license) that is intentionally separate from psychotherapy (different services, contracts, disclaimers, etc.). For those who do both:

• Do you run your non-clinical/coaching profits through your P.C. (using a DBA/trade name), or through a separate LLC?
• Was that structure recommended by your attorney or CPA?

Hi Brains Trust, I'm trying to finetune my expectations regarding contractor rates as a psychologist in Australia.

I appreciate that there are many variables potentially relevant to my central question, but I don't feel I have many peers I can raise this with and would appreciate any advice. Some non-identifying parameters on my situation below.

TLDR:

What is a fair and competitive independent contractor split of service fee inclusive of super contribution that is paid by the third party practice (e.g. 50/50, 70/30)?

Particulars:

I'm a clin psych registrar with approx 3 yrs experience under general registration. In the contractor role in question (therapeutic capacity, general practice, varied funding models), I work 100% online. I have had a contractor relationship with said practice for approx 3 yrs and am considering querying my contractor rates.
