I have subscribed to the proton free plan and tried to use it in the following way without success today. What I wanted to achieve was to get my emails from my AOL and BBOX accounts in my Poroton inbox. So I imported my emails from those accounts via easy switch and the emails landed successfully in my Poroton inbox as you can see in the screenshot below:

But I am not getting the new mails from these accounts in my inbox! what should I exactly do to have every new message received on AOL, arrive in my Proton mailbox?

My second question is: If I reply to a message imported from aol in Proton is it possible that the "from" address remain my aol account, so the person who receives the email do not see that it was replied from proton?

The newish Email by Category feature in Proton Mail (Primary, Social, Newsletters, etc) stopped showing the unread count next to their name in Brave Browser/Windows today. It was working this morning, then stopped.

It still works on the Proton Mail app for Windows.

I've tried refreshing. I have not updated Brave for several days and no updates are pending, this is either a bug, glitch, or Proton has pushed out an unwelcome change.

Anyone else notice this?

I have a folder named 'Conversations' where I would like to collect longer back-and-forth email threads. I do not necessarily want to move all emails from one particular sender to that folder.

My problem is that when I now get a response in a thread the notification is in Inbox instead of in Conversations. I can still see the thread (and the new replies) in Conversations. If I move the thread once more from Inbox to Conversations it overwrites and there is only one copy of the thread in the folder.

I would expect that my moved email threads are kept in the target folder forever and would never show up in Inbox again. Is there a way to solve it?

E: this behavior also goes against the Proton Mail support which says

A message can only be stored in one folder (with the exception of Starred and All mail*). When you move a message from your* Inbox to a different folder, you’ll no longer see it in your Inbox*.* 

I have a custom domain that I purchased via cloudflare.

Am I able to use that with protonmail? Every time people talk about a custom domain I don’t think I ever read someone one here saying cloudflare.

Is it an issue with cloudflare? I currently use one with my iCloud subscription and bought another one to use with proton but it’s currently automatically set up for iCloud so I would just have to manually switch it to proton?

There have been a few threads started in the ProtonMail UserVoice page about this but they have never had enough votes to gain any traction with Proton.

I recently switched to Proton and so far my only real "critique" (considering sheets kinda seems to be in beta :)) is that webmail uses T to delete, which is really unpractical on a laptop with no mouse :)

Wondering if it's possible to add DEL?

Also, is a basic editor somewhere on the roadmap, or can I use any markup for bolds/italics etc?

You wouldn't believe how long I've been waiting for this. I was among the people who were experiencing 25-30 seconds to load each photo thumbnail, and now it takes a little less than one second for a group of photo thumbnails. I can scroll to the bottom of my albums in one minute!!!

This was my biggest issue with Proton, as my priorities were Mail, Photo, and Drive. Now if they improve Calendar I will finally fully migrate from my free Google account to Proton.

I gave my kid an e-mail from Proton as per the announcement they did in the past. I am already sharing my Duo proton with my wife, and I am not planning to move to Family plan as we dont need it. however I need my daughter to be connected with us anyhow and I am not talking about any benefits from Duo license but just to Connect her with us, so I can manage my Family anyway and I can see her usage for her free plan. do you have any option for doing that? Does anyone use PM with multiple accounts or for business?

I'm coming from an outlook background, and would really like to go fully proton, it's just it is not as good (imo) or I am missing something ...my main gripes...

1. I have several emails [email protected], [email protected] but they all have to come into the same inbox?!? I know I can tag them, but I want a clear separation of work to home, is this possible??

2. Web interface seems to be missing basic shortcuts like delete key?

3. The new message GUI is terrible, I have to click the dots to see the message I am replying too?? It's either a tiny little window or a full screen popup? Having the reply in the reading pane (with option to pop out) is imo nicer as I can quick get to other emails for reference and back again.

4. Same with the message reading pane. I cant see the message thread without clicking the three dots.

5. calender integration only shows the current day? I have to open a separate tab/app for the month?

I'm hoping I'm being thick and missing obvious things and people can sort me out, so any guidance is appreciated.

I'll be the first to diss Microsoft, and i expect to have to learn/compromise with different software, but outlooks GUI should have been the very basics, it's used by millions everyday for business use so Proton should be able to match it closely if they expect people to migrate.

I cannot imagine using proton mail for business purposes at the moment.

When i add my own domain to Proton,
will the already existing proton aliases (proton.me, pm.me, etc.) stay untouched?

Today I clicked the 'Upgrade' button in one of my Proton products, just out of curiosity, and saw an offer for one year of Proton Visionary with a 25% discount. The price offered, with the 25% discount applied, is € 359.88 for 12 months.

Of course I wanted to compare this to the regular price. I found the regular price on this Proton support page: https://proton.me/support/proton-plans#proton-visionary. On there, it states that € 359.88 is the normal price for Visionary, so, without any discount.

This is strange, right? The 25% offer should bring the price down to €269,91, but as stated above, it would charge me the full € 359.88. I don't want to be subjective, but it seems to be a fake discount. Offering a fake discounted price while charging the regular price is illegal in some EU countries. I hope this is not done on purpose by Proton AG.

Do others see this too? What do you think is happening? May be I am overlooking something.

Hi! I am new to digital privacy and in the near future I plan to migrate from Gmail & Google to Proton. I want to make sure I use Proton’s abilities, like additional email addresses and aliasing, to their fullest extent. That’s why I have a few questions.

The first question is a technical one. I plan to switch to Proton’s Unlimited Plan and I wanted to make sure that I understand things correctly: I get 15 email addresses (1 main address ending in u/proton.me or u/protonmail.com + 14 additional email addresses ending in either u/protonmail.com or u/pm.me) and unlimited aliases?

The second question is: how do I use the multiple addresses and unlimited aliases to their fullest extent when it comes to privacy? I think I understand the difference between them, but why would I use the email addresses if I have unlimited aliases? To give you an idea, here is my plan:

For each of the following categories, I would use a different email address:

1. Banking Apps
2. Health Apps
3. Providers (Proton, Cable Providers, …)
4. Apple Account ( I use an iPhone)
5. Meta (WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook)
6. Google (YouTube, YouTube Music, Gemini, Notebook LM)
7. Social 1 (Reddit, Discord, GitHub, Pinterest, Tumblr)
8. Microsoft + Minecraft Account
9. Gaming (Steam)

For each of the following apps, I would use a different alias:

1. Streaming (Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, Crunchyroll)
2. Shopping
3. Dating Apps
4. Other

Why like this?

For the first section, I want those accounts I sign up for to be permanent, and I separated them based on their use case or the specific company. For the second section, I would use them as throwaway accounts. For streaming, I plan to build a home server eventually, so I would only keep the commercial apps just to get recommendations. For dating, I usually just delete the app and account if I find someone I resonate with.

Please send all your suggestions and recommendations, and please keep in mind I’m new to privacy, the Proton ecosystem, and posting on Reddit! ;)

I tried looking it up and people said it was impossible and the only solution was filters, but the post was from 2 years ago. Maybe it has been fixed since then? I love Proton so far and I'd like the interface to be similar to Outlook, with a section for each email address. I don't like having all my emails crammed into the same inbox, professional, personal and extra personal all in the same place.

If the feature hasn't been added yet, can someone explain to me how to create and use filters to do what I want? Thanks a lot!

Today i finally changed almost every account from gmail to protonmail, only to realize i can't use protonmail on a v6-only network.

Is there any news or roadmap or something?

I am a Spain / Movistar user, currently using dual-stack on mobile and fiber so this does not break the service but feels like a complete hindrance.

I recently switched to proton drive from iCloud/Dropbox. Took 3 days, but I got every file and photo backed up. I feel really stupid asking, but I can delete the pictures from my phone now and iCloud, correct?

Does anyone know where the ProtonMail Flatpak stores the login token? I'm running off a Tails USB (Linux distro that resets most system folders on reboot except ones you explictly tell it not to) and it seems that the token isn't saved in ~/.var/app or ~/.local/share/flatpak where other Flatpak apps store there data, so I keep getting logged out.

I'm having issues with forwarding mails to Infomaniak - two other forwards work fine but not that one. I have checked with Infomaniak and it hasn't been stopped or sent to spam.

Has anyone else experienced this? All my settings seem to be set up properly.

What are the reasons preventing Proton from hashing the recovery email address and phone number so that they cannot be so easily disclosed to authorities?

In this scenario, authorities could of course still ask, “Does the email address [email protected] belong to this Proton account?” but they could no longer ask “Which email address belongs to this Proton account?”

I realize that with this solution, users would have to remember their recovery email address or phone number if they forget their password, but is that the only reason against it? Otherwise, it would indeed be possible to hash the data (along with a unique identifier for the user, so that not all hashed values can be queried) and only briefly pass the email address or phone number to Proton during the recovery process. Proton would then match it against the hash and send a message to that address/number.

I currently use Proton with the Mail Plus plan, but it allows to add only one domain, and I need to connect 3 domains.

The Unlimited plan allows this, but it's a bit expensive and comes with all other Proton services that i don't use.

I saw there is Proton business plan that called "Mail Essential", It's pretty similar to the Mail Plus plan but allows

adding up to 3 domains.

Is there and downsides of using business account for personal use?

I'm thinking of installing an Email client, Thunderbird most likely. My question is: I know Proton mail has encrypted Emails between different Proton mail accounts, but is the Email encrypted no matter where you send it from, i.e. browser or Email client? Where does the encryption actually start?

What's the difference, and is there any, between accessing Proton mail with browser and Email client?

Proton mail app (nonweb)- Does the data stay online and in the mail app (win/linux/...) or just in the mail app?

I want my mail to still be online and not only on my machine. Is this possible?

When using thunderbird you download your mail and your mail is on your machine and not online (unless you tell it to do otherwise).

I've had a couple of online services reject passmail email aliases (more ignore than reject, since the email confirmation just never arrives.) Does anyone have a workaround?
