I don’t know why I didn’t join this sub sooner. I work in printing and I need to VENT! And I need advice! How do you all deal with people that don’t know anything about printing or WORSE think they know everything about printing???? I have been in this industry for two years and with ai it’s only getting worse! No I cannot print your ai slop it has no bleeds!!!! And it’s a screenshot!!!

I work at a small business so we do commercial and personal work and man. I don’t think people realize how specific and temperamental print production is. And it’s not even just files. I had someone today who wants to bring in their own paper but won’t let us test it first! How on earth am I supposed to know if it will work then? By magic?????

Let's say I want to print an A5 comic book.

I make it monochrome (1-bit, no anti-aliasing) as it's black and white.

I set it to 600dpi. It looks smooth and nice.

Then I go to the printer, but they ask me a 300dpi file.

So I need to resize and export it, and downsample it.
What am I supposed to choose?

• Nearest neighbour: jagged lines, details lost, bust still sharp black and white.
• Bicubic / Bilinear: smooth, but it's now greyscale, no sharp lines, possible artifacts.

I have not found a straight answer to this, despite a long research.

Bonus question: Should I also draw it bigger, at A4 600dpi?

I'm a hobbyist bookbinder, I'm trying to print a book on a5 paper to then fold to a6, however my printer which is a Canon MF-462dw II keeps saying I'm out of paper despite having a good amount of a5 paper in there. I know very little about printers, does anyone have any tips or explanations?

I'm looking for printers with archival or long lasting inks, I had a canon g6020 and the prints lasted for less than a year, bought it for documents so it doesn't matter that much, but learning from that experience, I want a printer with a much longer lifespan for its prints

I made Ecofonts, a web app that optimizes fonts to use less ink when you print.

Ink-saving fonts aren't new, Ryman Eco, Ecofont and others proved the idea years ago. But they all had the same catch: to save ink you had to switch to their specific font. If you liked your typeface, or you were printing a document someone else made, you were out of luck. Ecofonts flips that around, you keep whatever font you want and print whatever file you have, and it does the ink-saving for you with zero effort.

What you can drop in:

.pdf — a whole document

.ttf, .otf, .woff, .woff2 — individual fonts

.zip — a batch of fonts (folder structure preserved)

👉 And if you just drop a PDF, that's basically the whole flow — no need to know or care what fonts are inside. It finds them all, optimizes them, and hands you back a print-ready document. Pick your intensity, done.

What it does: it takes the inside of every glyph and subtracts a fine grid of tiny vector holes: think of it like a honeycomb hidden inside each letter. At normal reading sizes you barely notice, but your printer lays down noticeably less ink. You pick an "Eco Intensity" (1–20%) and download the modified file.

It's free and open source. Would love feedback — especially on print results if anyone actually runs a page through their printer.

I recently returned the Epson 2988 from Costco as it refused to connect to our Google Fiber router. I spent two full days going through all trouble-shooting. I am now more hesitant at going out and buying another printer because I don't have it in me to do any more troubleshooting.

I need a printer for school (basic documents, but a lot of them) and for crafts (sticker making and such)

What I need/want:

- Automatic duplex printing

- Color printer

- I'd like to be able to print on glossy paper but this isn't a requirement

- Not too big as my office is, literally, inside a hallway closet that I managed to fit a desk and chair into. It doesn't need to be tiny, and if my only option happens to be one that is "too big" I will figure it out.

- Able to connect to a Google Fiber router

I’m looking for a company that can make it baby-proof..waterproof, tear-proof, rounded corners, one hole-punch (so we can easily take the cards and set them up elsewhere in the house), 30 double-sided 5×7 pages… similar to the feeling of like a playing card but bigger.

Any recommendations for company’s / vendors / etc to get this printed? Also I have literally never posted on redditt before so I dont even know if I did this post correctly lol

I am an artist, who wants to start my mail club, so anyone knows where I can print my artwork in 350 gsm paper. Please comment. Gsm stands for Grams per Square Meter: a measurement of paper or fabric thickness/weight. I want thick and good quality paper 🌸✨

I offer game cover and manual reproduction services locally.

I currently use 120 gsm double sided glossy koala photo paper for the manuals and 180 gsm semi glossy koala photo paper for the covers.

I've nailed the paper thickness and color management on my ecotank but the iillusion shatters as soon as you touch the paper.

It’s not smooth, theres resistance to it and almost feels sticky. It needs to be similar to the texture of magazine paper to be believable.

what are my options?

I want to print a pdf borderless because it contains a lot of 2 page spread art and I dont know how im gonna set up a bleed for it

Looking for printers who can do small-run newspapers — full-color, photo-heavy, real newsprint. Runs from 10 to 500 copies. Quality matters a lot — saturated images, deep blacks, not a throwaway flyer.

I know about Newspaper Club. Looking for other options, anywhere in the world.

A few things I'm trying to figure out:

- Who's printing newspapers (or newsprint publications) at small quantities with genuinely good image quality?

- Has anyone run newsprint through a sheet-fed toner press (Ricoh Pro, Versant, etc.)? Did it work or did it jam?

- Coldset vs digital — anyone done both and can compare the image quality on photo-heavy pages?

Especially interested if you've printed something on newsprint you were actually proud of and can say who printed it.

Hi, I'm looking to self-publish a book for personal use, probably about 25 copies. Color, with pictures, and probably 7x10 or 8X10 size. Need help with formatting and cover as well. Not going to publish, not for sale. Want to be able to speak with people at company -- not do it through email or chat.

I've looked into Book Baby and just learned about Mindstir Media. Anyone worked with either of these? Thoughts? Any other suggestions?
