/r/Pretoria Community Update: New Rules regarding Solicitation and Content Relevance

Hi everyone,

As /r/Pretoria continues to grow, we are introducing a few official rules to ensure the subreddit remains a helpful, safe, and relevant resource for everyone living in or visiting our city. We've kept intervention to a minimum so far. In general we've only banned blatant racism, bots, and spammers, so we've generally got a very well behaved community.

We want to keep this space focused on discussion, advice, and news specific to the Jacaranda City, however. To support this, we have added the following rules to the sidebar, effective immediately:

A. No Begging, Crowdfunding, or Financial Solicitation

We have seen an increase in posts asking for financial assistance, "loans," or e-wallets. While we sympathize with those in difficult situations, Reddit is not a safe platform for verifying financial needs.

What is banned: Requests for money, e-wallets, and links to crowdfunding sites (e.g., BackaBuddy, GoFundMe).

Why: This rule is in place to protect our community from potential scams and unverified solicitation.

Advice: If you are in need, please reach out to registered NPOs or charity organizations rather than soliciting here.

B. Keep Content Relevant to Pretoria and the greater Tshwane

Please ensure your posts are directly related to Pretoria or the greater Tshwane municipality.

General SA News: News that affects the whole country (e.g., general Eskom updates, national politics) belongs in /r/southafrica unless it has a specific Pretoria angle.

Other Cities: Posts clearly meant for Joburg or other regions will be removed.

Context: If you post a photo or link where the connection to Pretoria isn't obvious, please explain it in the title.

C. Standard Civility & Privacy

We are also formalizing standard expectations:

Be Civil: Disagreements are fine; personal attacks and hate speech are not.

No Spam: Accounts that exist solely to advertise businesses will be banned.

No Doxing: Do not post personal contact details (phone numbers, addresses) of yourself or others.

These rules are here to improve the quality of the sub. If you have any questions or suggestions, please leave a comment below or message the moderators. Finally, thanks to everyone reporting posts, messaging the mods for clarifications, participating, /u/Afreak-du-sud for their post on the big uptick of begging and the scamming that inevitably goes with it. Don't worry, though, we don't ban for tagging the mods.. šŸ˜‚

Thanks for helping us keep /r/Pretoria a great community!

Electricity prices in Pretoria

Hi everyone,

Recently moved to
Pretoria East to save money and be closer to work.

However, I’m finding that the cost of electricity is insane. I bought R 300 electricity on the 17th
Of July 2026.

Today is the 22nd of July and when I arrived home today there was no electricity.

To provide more context I received 67.79 kWh.
I had expected this to last me at least two weeks.

I’m already in a financial rut and the fact that I now have to deal with this ridiculous cost is giving me anxiety over finances again.

How much are you guys spending electricity per month ?

Let’s build a brand together.

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I don’t know where else to put this thought out into the world so I’ll put it here because honestly, who knows when the right person is reading this at the right time.

I’m in ecommerce and for the most part, I dabble in dropshipping. However more recently I’ve had the intense urge to start a haircare line (you can message for details). There’s a gap in the market - atleast in SA and I’m dying to fill it. I’d love to bring this idea to life, but I’d love to do it with someone who’s equally as driven as I am.

I don’t work in corporate. My ā€œday jobā€ is social media. Therefore I have a good amount of time that I dedicate to ventures I plan to grow.

Im based in Pretoria East. Ideally I’d like to partner with somebody in and around the area. I want to shoot this idea to the damn moon. Again - not looking for someone who thinks this could be ā€œa fun ideaā€. (Not to sound funny, but I’d be able to pick up that energy immediately). Looking for someone dead serious. Willing to give it their all, as I currently am.

Drop me a message, let’s talk.

Hotwheels

Hi Pretoria!

I am looking for a specific Hotwheels. A Shelby Cobra. I see that they are in the Retro Racers edition and the Rolling Metal edition.

My uncle built a real one in the 90s and it was his most prized possession. He loved that car. Sadly, he passed away a few years ago and my cousin and his wife are expecting a baby boy that my uncle will never meet.

I would love to gift him this.

So if you know where I can find one or you are standing in line somewhere, please look through the hotwheels and see if you find it. You can send me a DM and I will go buy itā¤ļø

Thank you lovely people

20M looking for any work/income opportunities – hard-working, tech-savvy, and ready to start immediately

Hi everyone,

I’m a 20-year-old male living in Pretoria, looking for any job, gig, or work opportunity to start earning an income and help support my family through a tight financial situation.

A bit about me & my skills:

Background: Recently completed a 12-months Learnership in End User Computing(IT) and hold a good Matric certificate.

Skills: Tech-savvy, well-spoken, hard-working, non-drinker, and non-smoker.

Current status: Currently upskilling with free online tech certs and learning Python while waiting to start college in Jan 2027.

What I’m looking for:

I’m open to literally anything; entry-level tech/IT support, retail, warehouse, restaurant/waitering, admin, or general hands-on gigs.

I’ve applied across major job portals, but my lack of formal work experience has made it tough to get a foot in the door. I’m reliable, learn fast, and ready to put in the work immediately.

If you know of any open roles, lead options, or temporary gigs around Pretoria, please drop a comment or send me a DM. I'd be happy to share my CV.

Thanks so much for reading!

Looking to 4th party member in Centurion (or Pretoria East)

Our Party is looking for the last party member to enter Barovia with them...
Our new campaign started two months ago but one member cant make it for the foreseeable future.

We've been running a custom story that's set before we start our Curse of Strahd campaign soon.

Our table to open to 'New to DnD' people, as we don't mind teaching them the game.

We play 5.5e , if you're unfamiliar with it, it's no problem

We're looking for a mature player, as Curse of Strahd is a roleplay heavy Gothic Horror campaign

We play in-person 1-2times a month, if schedules align.
We play in Lyttelton Centurion, but I travel from Pretoria East.

Looking for opportunity for fiancƩe

Hi everyone,

My partner and I recently relocated from Durban to Midrand, and we're hoping to connect with anyone who may know of job opportunities in Pretoria, Midrand, Centurion, or surrounding areas.

She has experience as a Client Services Coordinator and Data Collection Agent, where she's worked with customers, handled administrative tasks, managed data accurately, and provided professional client support.

She's hardworking, reliable, learns quickly, and is available to start immediately.

If your company is hiring or you know of any openings that might be a good fit, we'd really appreciate it if you could let us know. Referrals or advice would also mean a lot.

Thank you so much in advance!

KTM off-road bike spares

Hey everyone,

Recently relocated from the WC to PTA East and I’m desperately looking for somewhere that sells KTM spares.
In CPT, we have shops like Trac-Mac or DirtRider where you could always go to get decently priced spares but I’m really struggling to find anything online here that seems the same or even similar.

Are there maybe any other enthusiasts here that could point me in the right direction, please? šŸ™

Electronics Repair Shop

Can anyone recommend where I can get my DJI Mavick 2 controller repaired?

The controller charging/connector port gets hot and doesn’t charge anymore. Controller still turns on fine though, so I suspect a pin or something in the port is not lekker.

Official repairs via DJI is not possible as it needs to get couriered to China apparently.

TIA

Looking for my best friend's grave, Rayton area. Have some questions.

Hello Reddit, I have a slightly odd question.

In 2016, my best friend Cathy took her own life . She was 16 at the time, I was 15. She had recently moved from Belgium to South Africa. After some digging, I found out her funeral was arranged by RBO Funerals, and she was buried at the Rayton Cemetery. (Yes, I've been looking for 10 years. Her family gave me no info other than the news of her passing.)

I'm really grasping at straws here, I know. I'm a funerary assistant student, so I know how grave concessions work here in Belgium, but obviously have no idea how things function on the other side of the globe. Over here, a person who is buried gets 10 yrs of mandatory grave rest, meaning that for the first 10 years after their burial the relatives do not have to pay to keep the grave standing. After that, it's either pay up or the deceased will be exhumed and the grave 'recycled.'

My question now is if I were to go visit her, would her grave even still be there? Is it even still worth it? I have no clue if her family took out a concession on her grave or how long for. I'd give anything to properly say goodbye.

Thanks in advance.

Fencing Debate

My wife and I bought our first house in Centurion, Lyttelton Manor. The house is lovely but the fence needs to be replaced. So I am curious what are everyone's opinions on fences int terms of price vs functionality.

I see a lot of these weaved Palisades popping up everywhere which I am leaning to.
