Thirst posts are hereby disallowed.

Aight, I’ve seen y’all’s comments and the crowd sentiment is pretty clear. It was funny a few times at first but then some people made it their business to crosspost the weird dino girls constantly.

I’ve made a new rule to keep it fairly clear that thirst posts are not allowed on this subreddit. This includes…

-“Hear me out…” posts.

-Monster girls and monster boys.

-Posts which have no punchline and are just forwarded with the funny being horny.

Let’s get back to good content like talking about Haolong’s cool new integument. You can post about Psittacosaurus’s butthole within reason.

Have a good day.

Paleo media posts continue to be fine!

Hello, friends!

So after a recent poll regarding on if members of this subreddit thought that posts about paleo media (such as about Jurassic Park or about Walking With Dinosaurs) do fit in this community. The answer was a very strong yes, including both educational and more Hollywood media. So you will continue to be able to post about these things.

However, comments made clear some other things. None of these are rule changes exactly but reverting back to stricter interpretations of the rules that have been relaxed. The following will be removed:

-Posts which are not memes, except on Amateur Art Wednesday, according to the rules of that day. This includes "wow, this dinosaur looks weird" and edit videos with no humorous aspect. Posts need to have a joke and they need to be edited beyond a plain image. It does not count if it's a plain image with a post title as a punch line.

-AI-generated imagery. Throw it in the Siberian Traps.

-Content related to paleo media that isn't related to the paleo aspects of those media. Dr. Ian Malcolm's relationship with his daughter when the dinosaurs aren't on screen is probably off-topic.

Aight, have a good day.

The first year after the impact might have been the easy bit.

Last year, I saw Amazing Dinoworld 2 on CuriosityStream, and one of the episodes discussed how long the non-Avian Dinosaurs could have survived after the impact, up to and including showing a scene of a Hadrosaur as the only large animal in a Danian-age jungle.

Ever since then I've been fascinated with the idea of a relatively "milder" Chicxulub impact that, rather than creating a single year(s)-long impact winter that caused the Dinosaurs to starve to death by killing all the plant life ("the plants all died, then the herbivores all died, then the carnivores all died"), would have instead left enough survivors for the non-avian Dinosaurs (and Pterosaurs, Mosasaurs, Plesiosaurs, Ammonites, etc.) to become a Dead Clade Walking for up to a million years post-impact; the apex predators and the largest/rarest herbivores would have suffered so many casualties in the initial event that they'd suffer a severe genetic bottleneck and basically inbreed themselves to death (not unlike what happened to the Wrangel Island Mammoths millions of years later), while smaller animals would be gradually replaced by mammals, sharks, and other 'modern' animals working their way up the food chain and/or gradually die off during the long-term climate instability resulting from the impact.
