Boycott Taylor Farms!

49

u/surrealtimesyaknow 4h ago

Came here to say this.

It really is that simple.

If these sycophants want to kiss trumps ass, pay millions to avoid accountability to the American people, then we don't need your product.

29

u/ChefJayTay 3h ago

No... it's not that simple.
Taylor Farms is something approaching a monopoly. They're in EVERYTHING.
Simple Google query....

  • Retail Brands & Supermarkets: Earthbound Farm, Eat Smart, and major retailer private labels like Walmart's Marketside, Aldi's Little Salad Bar Salad, and Target's Good & Gather. [1]
  • Restaurants & Fast Food: Chains like Taco Bell (Yum! Brands), McDonald's, Chipotle, Subway, Pizza Hut, KFC, Burger King, Olive Garden, and Red Lobster. [1, 2]
  • Foodservice & Distributors: Sysco, US Foods, FreshPoint, and various hospitals, schools, and ballparks.

I can understand boycotting a label at the store, but they're supplying your work commissary, the events you go to, the sports arenas you attend, the family diner down the street......

12

u/All_Hail_Hynotoad 3h ago

My understanding is they also provide Trader Joe’s salad kits.

6

u/Due-Boot1904 2h ago

And Wholefoods...

1

u/Chillpill411 10m ago

And Costco

3

u/RenegadeRevolt 3h ago

I eat zero produce from anywhere except my local food bank (which gets donations from local farms) or the Farmers market (local small farms). I dont go out to eat, cant afford it. Produce is local and small farm grown or not at all. Cant afford sports arenas, cant afford hospitals, cant afford events and pack my food always. Being broke AF has helped me not eat Taylor Farms who sells to Sysco who supplies food everywhere including every restaraunt and fast food joint. Monopolies are deadly. Literally.

4

u/AlltheBent 1h ago

naw it really is that simple, boycott. Get fresh lettuce from a farmers market, from a local farmer, grow your own

1

u/AMemoryComeALive 21m ago

ahh yes, so simple, cause everyone lives near a farmers market or local farmer, and you can just grow all the things included in a salad any time of year any place you want.

1

u/GlowUpper 12m ago

And for the folks who live in food deserts? I guess they just starve, huh?

2

u/No_Internal9345 3h ago

Boycott lettuce?

2

u/SpeaksSouthern 33m ago

Yeah I don't even understand. If every lettuce is Taylor farms I just won't eat lettuce anymore. Simple as fuck.

-2

u/jimgress 2h ago

yeah I've heard some brain dead reddit takes before but people shouting boycott to a company with a practical monopoly on the supply chain is a fresh level of cluelessness I hadn't encountered yet.

2

u/derprondo 1h ago

Pretty simple, I'm not eating at any of those chains until they get a different supplier.

1

u/surrealtimesyaknow 3h ago

It IS that simple. Really. People like you make it more complicated than it has to be. Stop buying Taylor Farm products.

2

u/CheeseGraterFace 3h ago

I like the part where you didn’t read any of that.

1

u/jimgress 2h ago

I'm sure yelling the same empty platitude loud enough will close your literacy gap with the rest of us.

1

u/Patient_Activity_489 3h ago

can you ask for no lettuce at the restaurants and fast food?

4

u/Omnom_Omnath 1h ago

doubt they changed gloves after touching the contaminated lettuce

1

u/Patient_Activity_489 1h ago

:( that is true i didnt think about that

1

u/Active-Armadillo-576 3h ago

Yes, it's like when I tried to boycott anything Koch-related.

1

u/StrangerCabbage 2h ago

Bro wut! 🤯

1

u/radicldreamer 1h ago

It is that simple, I don't NEED lettuce. I can do without to make a point.

1

u/dmvHotline 1h ago

Still boycott the label. These greedy fucks want want every last penny.

Every little bit counts.

-3

u/ChefJayTay 3h ago

In addition... this is not something you boycott them over. This happens every year, and our government lowering testing standards is more to blame than the company min-maxing the regulations.

15

u/bestmex 3h ago

No bootlicking, please. Have some dignity.

11

u/sloanesquared 3h ago

There is ample evidence that Taylor Farms lobbied hard for the government to reduce their standards and monitoring and donated $1,000,000 to a MAGA super pac for doing what they want. They 1000% deserve blame over this.

2

u/snek-jazz 2h ago

donated $1,000,000 to a MAGA super pac

this is the root problem, ya'll made bribery legal. need to fix that.

2

u/bunkuswunkus1 1h ago

Doesn't mean boycotting the worst offenders is a bad first step, make it unprofitable to engage in that behavior and it becomes much easier to outlaw it without major opposition.

9

u/All_Hail_Hynotoad 3h ago

No, you boycott the company for its $1 million donation to MAGA Inc.

7

u/SoylentGrunt 3h ago

Yet they visit Tump and now it's a false positive. Hmmmmmm

"This happens every year" That doesn't make it okay. It makes it worse.

3

u/Sprila 3h ago

No way you post this right after your preceding comment... "But, you should blame the govt not the corporations sacrificing people at the altar of shareholder value, min-maxing is inherently in their nature!"

-5

u/ChefJayTay 3h ago

Well... I find a TON wrong with our food system, market, and government/regulation. A market driven by capitalism is never going to properly respect health or nature. It's going to hit max profits without regard to the percent of acceptable loss.
So if you successfully boycott Taylor Farms, next year, who's next for the boycott without regulation for testing? Cause people are still going to be eating cheap lettuce.

2

u/surrealtimesyaknow 3h ago

Learn to grow your own.

3

u/sshwifty 2h ago

Here is the deal. If the government won't regulate, then the ONLY option is to make the company regulate themselves. Which they will only do if they feel it on their bottom line.

This is why striking works for unions and why scabs are scum. Yes, the government should be doing the job of protecting people, but sometimes you just have to seize the means of production.

1

u/Omnom_Omnath 1h ago

nah, the company trying to do the bare minimum deserves just as much blame.

2

u/Dramatic-Paradise 3h ago

It’s not gonna work—regulate.

2

u/All_Hail_Hynotoad 3h ago

Companies like Taylor Farms pay money to lobby against regulations.

1

u/Ancient_Coconut_5880 3h ago

You can boycott and advocate for regulation
https://giphy.com/gifs/zbzNUbpFnlw8E

1

u/existonfilenerf 2h ago

With Republicans in power? LMAO.

1

u/GlowUpper 13m ago

I don't think you realize how much of America's produce supply comes from this one company. It's really not "that simple" (unless your kink is developing gout).

13

u/FlatwormNo5172 4h ago

I’m not willingly touching a single thing from them again. I doubt the alternatives are much better if we’re being real here but Taylor has at least been exposed.

2

u/Icy_Consequence897 4h ago edited 4h ago

I get it. Lettuce is an easy one to replace and boycott (sometimes it has trouble with high heat and wilts or bolts because of that. Grow it in the shade if you live in the southern US. But otherwise it's super easy and fast to grow, most lettuce breeds a only take 40 to 60 days from seed to your first harvest. I prefer the leaf lettuces for home gardens over romaine, mostly because you get many smaller harvests instead of a few big ones. The seed packets cost less than the grocery store heads these days, and you can get dozens of heads out of one seed packet. More if you save the seeds after the lettuce eventually bolts).

But I wonder how this will go in the future with crops that are hard or impossible to grow in a home garden. What happens when your tree fruits get coated in parasites or your meat is full of worms?

1

u/Omnom_Omnath 1h ago

good luck never eating lettuce in a restaurant for the rest of your life

1

u/SpeaksSouthern 31m ago

Small price to pay not to support a company that's corrupt. And it's a food company. Like, if they do this with electronics I don't have to take it extremely seriously. Food, this stuff goes into my body dude. We stopped eating sprouts because they were trying to hurt us. The fuck would be the problem doing the same thing to lettuce? It's not a critical staple. It's one of many options like it

13

u/SolidSnek1998 4h ago

Stopped at the grocery store last night and they had a sign over the Taylor Farms bagged salads about the "false" positive and it was overflowing with bags. No one was buying that shit, they should have just thrown it all out.

9

u/BepisLeSnolf 4h ago

Inb4 the grocery stores start quietly turning them into their premade food

3

u/CeeUNTy 4h ago

I shop at a small produce store that sells locally grown stuff and things from grocery stores that are past their prime and it was overloaded with Taylor Farms bagged lettuce yesterday.

1

u/SpeaksSouthern 30m ago

There's quite a few retailers like that around me and they have a fuck ton of Taylor farms bags collecting dust.

4

u/DarthBaeaddil 4h ago

What a POS

4

u/omnid00d 4h ago

I didn’t know who they were before this. Now I do and I’m not going to forget what they did.

2

u/Dazzling_Line_8482 3h ago

Yes please - I'm not sure where they came from but they seem to have cornered the bagged salad market and the ones I used to get are now no longer available.

The Taylor Farms ones while I think they taste good, are smaller and more expensive and now apparently will make you crap out your insides.

Down with monopolies!

2

u/Banned37 3h ago

Deal. Fuck them

1

u/LalafellDisaster 2h ago edited 1h ago

The below are also part of Taylor Farms under different names.

Earthbound, 365 Whole Foods, Simple Truth at Kroger, O-Organics at Safeway, Greenwise at Publix, Simply Nature at Aldi, Marketside at Walmart, Good & Gather from Target, HEB Storebrand, Trader Joe’s store brand

1

u/Than_Or_Then_ 1h ago

But what if I really dont wanna go to work tomorrow?

1

u/TheComplimentarian 55m ago

BE AWARE! THEY SELL UNDER MANY NAMES!

Lot of them are supposedly organic, though I guess parasites are natural.

1

u/FigureMiserable4859 38m ago

How about 'Everyone Vote, Our Lives Depend upon it!

0

u/therealdanhill 3h ago

Can I ask, why?

They voluntarily underwent a huge recall effort, they took a huge hit to their brand and lost what I imagine was a big contract in Taco Bell, with the verdict at the time being that it was a false positive.

You're advocating a boycott based entirely on "it feels like" / "it seems like". You're comfortable with that lack of objectivity?

3

u/Dooty_Shirker 1h ago

1

u/therealdanhill 1h ago

I actually posted that article elsewhere in the thread. Nowhere in there does it contain the contents of the meeting or make the claim there was a cover up.

1

u/SpeaksSouthern 28m ago

I'm making the assumption that the meeting was about covering this up. And frankly I find it weird that anyone would want to take that risk with their own health. If the company is willing to pay bribes regarding explosive diarrhea, what else are they hiding? Maybe you don't care, you don't have to it's your health, me personally, I want my food companies to be focused on safety, not bribes. I will be using my money to support only companies that care about the product they are making, and this response from Taylor Farms confirms for me that I will boycott the ownership structure of this company for the rest of my life. Absolutely disgusting people.

27

u/Boring_Owl6552 5h ago

Interesting proposition. How about adding data center and fracking execs be required to regularly drink their project water.

11

u/shrinkingmy 3h ago

I saw a documentary on it once representatives would go to peoples houses and insist the fracking tap water was safe but refuse when offered a glass to drink

7

u/iamjustaguy 2h ago

My favorite was when some fraking executive said the water was safe. Then one of the homeowners brought out a jar of brown water from his home tap, and asked him to drink it. He refused.

1

u/Forward-Cup-9513 1h ago

He likely got the inspiration from an earlier famous person that they made a move of, Erin Brockovich. She's already on the case.

2

u/ThinBlackLineZ 3h ago

It should be the only water they and their families are allowed to drink.

2

u/Ohnoyo123 3h ago

Interesting proposition, Luigi data center and fracking execs.

0

u/Sharkfacedsnake 2h ago

The reason why people around data centres have bad water isn't because data centres use water. I'm pretty sure it happens with any large construction project. It disturbs the pipes and sediment falls into the water.

1

u/Boring_Owl6552 1h ago

The idea many promote is a closed loop. It's neither entirely closed nor entirely a loop, typically. Water is constantly being drained and dumped and circulating throughout, unfortunately. So, contaminants from construction (like the Microsoft construction bacteria), and from dumping used water - often into sewer systems not necessarily capable. That's my understanding, at least.

1

u/gburgwardt 1h ago

There are no contaminants from water run through cooling systems, typically.

1

u/Boring_Owl6552 52m ago

Anticorrosives, biocides, metals.

13

u/Verde_3773 5h ago

And the bag he eats from has to be provided by the ones administering the challenge, so he can’t tamper with the product, affecting the results…

4

u/AnonSlipper 3h ago

Exactly. You just know they would try to bring a pre-screened batch from some pristine executive stash. Someone needs to grab it straight off the production line at random and serve it up right there.

3

u/thissexypoptart 3h ago

Right and it has to be unwashed. The bags say the lettuce is prewashed and ready to eat. No funny business allowed.

1

u/Significant-Froyo-44 12m ago

Exactly. There are I believe 4 different farms, one or two of which are growing the affected lettuce. They used a test from one of the other farms to “prove” it wasn’t their product.

10

u/Strong_Performer8132 5h ago

The fact he hasn't done this publically is hugely damming and suggests Taylor Farms really is responsible for giving millions of people diarrhea.   Looking forward to the HUGE class action lawsuit.  Should be worth tens of millions of dollars. There won't be a Taylor Farms when its through.

6

u/Worried-Criticism 4h ago

Unlikely. For one, class actions take YEARS if not decades. Also, given the FDA is bending backwards like a sideshow contortionist for these folks, it’ll make it that much harder.

If they do pay down the line (and that’s a BIG F***inkg if) it will be a small fraction of the company value.

The best thing to do is boycott them if possible. I’m upset because their salad kits are great…just not “die shitting yourself in pain” great. So yeah, not gonna be buying them any time soon.

1

u/pheonix198 48m ago

The GOP keeps succeeding in shutting down fair, good class action lawsuits against companies that have knowingly exploited and sickened customers and third-parties (meaning people that eventually consume afflicted products or unsafe water and other resources that were filled with carcinogens).

Round-up and its manufacturer Monsanto and some other PFAS and PCB polluters (like Bayer) have been protected and backed by republicunts recently.

1

u/NlghtmanCometh 6m ago

This post is a joke. Yet there’s always some comment saying literally exactly what you said. “The fact that this hasn’t happened PROVES (joke in the post)”.

even with the announcement of the false positive test they still maintain that Taylor Farms is the likely culprit and the CEO hasn’t denied that fact

8

u/BandoTheHawk 4h ago

I am getting tired of all these people. We are going backwards that is for sure.

9

u/Consistent-Chapter-8 4h ago

Reminds me of the corporate shill, Patrick Moore, being interviewed on French TV, shilling for the health benefits of GMO "golden rice." He was asked about his claim that he's willing to drink a glass of glyphosate, otherwise known as the pesticide Roundup, since it's "perfectly safe."

The interviewer responds with: "You want to drink some? We have some here." Moore cancels the interview early...

Avoiding accountability is a longstanding tradition, and in this Administration, oh so easy.

2

u/shrinkingmy 3h ago

And somehow they get away with it

2

u/GitEmSteveDave 2h ago

There are plenty of things that are not toxic in small amounts and "perfectly safe" to drink, but that doesn't mean you should do it. Just that if you accidentally ingest it, you won't be permanently harmed.

But if you actually look at the MSDS for glyphosate, under ingestion, the instructions are to wash mouth out and seek a dr if you feel unwell. As to it's LD50, it's higher than table salt, so it's easier to die by ingesting table salt than it is glyphosate.

4

u/WithoutAHat1 4h ago

Last I saw at Walmart they still had Taylor Farms there. Good luck to them.

4

u/CautiousCoyote2324 4h ago

Yes my wife and I loved their premade salads but can't chance it now. Bro could have took that bribe money and ensured this incident didn't happen again but no let's false flag another company and bribe Mango in chief.

4

u/Hot-Nectarine6865 4h ago

"By the way, we had that water brought in special for you folks. Came from a well in Hinkley..."

I remain validated [even if in My Own mind], to have NEVER purchased any bagged leafy product. MAGA Taylor: Ewwwwwww . . .

3

This MF is poisoning people but bribes Dear Leader to make it go away, criminal.

3

u/b1sh0p 3h ago

That guy looks exactly like how I pictured the Shit Lettuce CEO to look.

5

u/SilentNobody620 4h ago

I’ve worked in labs. In this case they would have tested multiple times and been damn sure they were right.

2

u/MuchAfraidGotOverIt 4h ago

Their orange master convinced the wealth class that integrity, transparency, and accountability are woke and don’t matter. Now they’ve messed with our food and we’re just supposed to be okay with it!

2

u/boomboomdaboomer 3h ago

Just don’t stand behind him if you know what I mean. 💩💣💥

2

u/LyleRath 3h ago

Back in the day Joe Elevator, inventor of the elevator cut the cables on an elevator with himself inside to prove it was safe.

Dude died and everyone said "damn that's cool as hell" and now elevators are everywhere. That's how you build trust.

1

u/GitEmSteveDave 1h ago

Elijah Otis didn't invent the elevator. He was a bed maker who created a safety brake for the hoists at the factory he worked at after two workers died in a nearby factory when their lift failed. He didn't die showing off his invention. https://youtu.be/7rBnoY3x4kY?t=128

Why would a CEO ever want to eat their own "PRODUCT"? They know exactly what corners were cut, what concerns were ignored and what tests had to be skipped to keep that quarterly profit up.

1

u/PlayedUOonBaja 2h ago

Thought this was going to be a King of the Hill clip.

2

u/juanjung 2h ago

There is a video of an interview Monsanto advocate claiming that water contaminated with the weedkiller Roundup was safe to drink, so the interviewer brings a glass of water with Roundup and asked him to drink it so the Monsanto guy said 'I won't drink it, I'm not stupid".

1

u/cejmp 51m ago

He isn’t a Monsanto advocate, he is a GMO advocate and the co founder of greenpeace. His name is Patrick Moore. This was a publicity stunt on French TV to pull attention to glyphosate. Moore was incorrectly identified as a paid Monsanto lobbyist by Time Magazine and they corrected it.

1

u/Juanbolastristes 3h ago

For those out of the ioop like me : Taylor Farms is the primary supplier linked to a multi-state outbreak of Cyclospora (cyclosporiasis), a parasitic infection that causes explosive, watery diarrhea. This outbreak has sickened thousands of people and was traced to shredded iceberg lettuce grown in Central Mexico.

1

u/CraneEternal 2h ago

I want to see this man tear a hole in his pants from the force of volcanic diarrhoea

1

u/SpakenBacon 2h ago

He would use another company's lettuce to eat.

1

u/tmhoc 1h ago

False positive lettuce was not the new edition to the lexicon I was expecting this year

1

u/Zalrius 1h ago

Mexico should seize their farms and tell them there is nothing they can do.

1

u/just_posting_this_ch 1h ago

Eat the lettuce! Eat the lettuce!

1

u/NiPaMo 1h ago

Eating iceberg lettuce is a punishment in itself

1

u/AlltheBent 1h ago

Friends, neighbors, overly-online folk:

  • Get your greens, and everyhting else you can, from local farmers market
  • Still trying to eat your greens? cook them! thoroughly at that
  • If you have time and resources, grow your own too! Its fun, its kinda easy, and it should be healthier in the long term

If America policed its food like does its people, then we wouldn't have to think about this.

1

u/Porthos1013 1h ago

I'm genuinely curious, how often do food outbreaks linked to produce occur overseas? Or is this a uniquely north American thing?

1

u/SlowEarthling 38m ago

This guy looks like skin cancer.

Why do these CEO ghouls always look like the type of person that hangs out around college dorm alleyways sniffing discarded tampons?

They look comicbook evil half the time

I once heard if a food item is pulled off the shelf it cant be returned. Can you get in any trouble for filling a cart with this product and leaving the cart in the middle of the isle? You're not stealing, you just forgot where you left your potential purchase
