Yeah, just as a German I remember how they got Frings suspended for semi-final in 2006 after he came to defense when they kicked Mertesacker.

I also remember the 2014 final where they kept trying to injure Schweinsteiger until he finally had a blood cut.

And nothing during this world cup, starting from their overly aggressive fouling, to unsportsmanlike conduct getting a player ejected for briefly covering their mouth to finally hitting and kicking opponents.

Their soccer national team has shown a long tradition of just showing the ugly side of soccer.

u/Captain_Noodle1 17h ago

I know that it's necessary for any German to at some point in their life forget their own past and move on, but just a reminder that this is how you used to play football: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disgrace_of_Gij%C3%B3n

Well, and this is from the time when a German goalkeeper almost killed a French player in the field: https://youtu.be/tGq7VcaHoqo

u/lsmith77 14h ago

Oh sure. I do remember but I would argue that German soccer has moved on. I also didn’t go back to the hand of god since I don’t see a lineage to today’s play by Argentina.

1

u/Captain_Noodle1 10h ago

We do move on. As I said, Germany exists in part because people chose to move on. But it’s worth reflecting on your own record before pointing fingers. Moral superiority is one of Europe’s worst vices, and I’d argue it’s Germany’s worst, whether it’s grounded in financial responsibility, morality, religion, language, race, or whatever category you prefer to use at that point. And, on football, Germany’s national team used to have a very reckless style of play that seriously endangered opponents, until a bit more than a decade ago, but perhaps it was fine, because they were South American teams.

u/lsmith77 7h ago edited 7h ago

I would say 2002 Germany played very aggressive as well. Absolutely agreed.

Since 2006 they changed. But I don’t remember Germans kicking and hitting opponents after games.

So yes a team culture can change for the better or worse. And Argentina has allowed a bad culture now for 2 decades. Hopefully they will use this incident to change.

PS. Actually back in 2002 it felt like Germany was focused on destroying the thought of soccer in its core and lucked itself into the final

Leandro Paredes’ behavior after the match was disgraceful, and I totally agree with that. The yellow card he received during the match was also completely justified. He should be sanctioned by FIFA and should seek urgent psychological therapy to learn how to control his rage (similar to how MbappĂ© got a yellow card when he elbowed Unai SimĂłn for no reason, or how Bellingham slapped Barco on the back of the head and didn’t get penalized for it). In the same match where Argentine players were recklessly attacking Schweinsteiger, Neuer made a dangerous challenge on HiguaĂn. Images of Schumacher vs. Battiston immediately came to mind. While it might not have been a foul by Neuer, it was in fact considered a foul by HiguaĂn. That was the most dangerous challenge in the whole game, and we were lucky that HiguaĂn didn’t suffer a serious concussion or worse.

However, what I really dislike is not criticism of some players’ or fans’ behavior, but the lecturing and the idea that some nations have some kind of moral superiority, when that moral superiority only comes from cherry-picking a few moments in their history (whether it's their sporting history or their national history), with the added bias that about 50% of the selected period is one in which Germany’s national team has been almost irrelevant. And I don’t mean this as an insult to your national team, which is one of the two most successful in the history of the sport (as reckless and aggressive as they were), but as a statistical description: it’s impossible to observe the behavior of an agent who simply stopped doing anything at all.

u/lsmith77 6h ago

Thank you for the well articulated response.

Note I want to emphasize I was speaking about national teams, not national character. If in any of my comments it sounded like I was speaking about an entire national or ethnic character, then it was not my intention and I apologize.

But I think it is important to acknowledge that teams do establish a culture. Players that otherwise might behave one way, suddenly behave different. For better or worse.

u/Far-Tomato-4775 12h ago

Why you germans did? Are you fair? What you did in 86, stole the final in 90, your arrogance with algeria in 2010 .. there are numerous examples of you too. Yes this team of argentina disappointed both in-game and off it BUT you were also not saints.

1

u/daniel-kz 12h ago

Did you watch the same final I did? I remember HiguaĂn jaw being in the wrong body for a second. And zabaleta...

Story of their life

1

u/primefart 1d ago

Came me here to say the same. This must be a bot post 😆

1

u/CoachDennisGreen 1d ago

I didn’t read the comments beforehand but I think everyone has the same feeling

22

u/milkandwinelily 1d ago

Did they ever have any?

13

u/i-love-mexican-c0ke 1d ago

I’ve heard rumors but this was eye-opening. They should be embarrassed.

3

u/Anomander1979 1d ago

Watch clips from their last world cup encounter against the netherlands

1

u/AdministrativeBig362 2h ago

Watch clips of everything the Netherlands, its players and mangers said before the match

1

u/SubbieATX 19h ago edited 9h ago

Yeah amazing how quickly people have already forgotten the racist chant led by none other than Enzo Fernandez after the final in 2022.

17

u/letstalkabo66 1d ago

Gianni Infantino could only help them for so long, they are classless and it showed

1

u/mastan777 7h ago

Your larpers need to get out of my sport asap. Apparently this game wasn't rigged haha

-22

u/Own_Tour9861 1d ago

Glad you won’t be watching another game for 4 years

4

u/OkHandle3269 1d ago

5

u/Reasonable_Option493 1d ago

They're getting trolled so hard lmfao. Karma is a b1tch.

The Mexican fan pulling a red card and then a Yamal, Spain jersey, golden.

7

u/ChallengeActive86 1d ago

Pretty sure they haven't had class or decorum since the reich started to fall and they let the jackboots hide there....

6

u/SwerveCities 1d ago

You have to have something before you can lose it.

5

u/Electrical-Win9801 1d ago

4

u/Akkerlun 23h ago

Trump gave them $40 billion in a currency scam transaction so they have that at least.

3

u/Chawax 1d ago

It has always been a squad of cheats.

3

u/ProfessionMountain21 1d ago

They took their success for granted and got mad at the end when reality kicked in...

Good for Spain.

3

u/freshvomit__ 23h ago

“Lost” lmao

3

u/PowerfulStrike5664 22h ago

They didn’t have class or decorum to begin with, they had nothing to lose.

3

u/Ukee_boy 20h ago

They lost that during their racists celebrating 4 years ago.

2

u/CoachDennisGreen 1d ago

It didn’t have any of that to lose

2

u/They-Them_Moonwalker 1d ago

That’s assuming they had class and decorum to begin with.

2

u/caprisces80 1d ago edited 1d ago

I already had the mindset it was already won for Argentina but i remember thinking and saying before the final even if they were to "win" they ultimately already lost and they wouldn't understand how or why given the high of winning the world cup. When i say the ultimately lost, i say it by how the public perception now see's them. It used to be a thing that only South Americans knew about or were used to but now on the world stage they themselves showed everyone their true colors because they don't know how to lose and be humble about it.

2

u/OkHandle3269 1d ago

It never had class

3

u/thaprizza 1d ago

Can't lose what you don't have, they just double downed

2

u/Banned37 1d ago

Yeah fuck them

3

u/Worried-Maybe3438 1d ago

Classless club, Dirty Players, Racist fans the Trifecta

The media is simply an echo chamber of the exact same narrative being spread around social media by LLM’s that are getting very good at making posts, comments, and content that is hard to pick apart. A circular loop of reinforcement learning that sways millions of ppl to a viewpoint in a very short period of time

And now Messi is retired the World Cup

1

u/uttercross2 1d ago

It also lost many of its fans around the world. Very few people outside of Argentina, will be supporting them in anything, not only football. The pathetic display after the end of the match will never be forgotten.

1

u/EchoTotal458 19h ago

Some crystal ball you got. This is not the first fight in a football match and won’t be the last . Each national and club teams been involved in fights .

1

u/Reasonable_Option493 1d ago

They've been trash since at least the 2022 WC where they behaved like idiots with the Netherlands then France. Then the 2024 Copa America. This isn't new, it's just that more people noticed.

I am so glad they somehow made it to the final and lost, it hurts more.

1

u/InigoRivers 1d ago

In what world did Argentina have class and decorum? 😂

1

u/enigmaticsince87 1d ago

Anyone who's ever watched any football before already know this about them.

1

u/Plane_Barracuda9889 21h ago

They did not lose something they never had, class.

1

u/LeManMagnifique 18h ago

As a neutral I gotta love people watching the sport for the first time being prejudiced for no reason. It’s a good thing most of you won’t be around for the next four years.

How was Argentina vs England different? Same team, same physical playing style. It’s the ref’s job to keep these kinds of things in check, and handing out 5 yellow cards and 1 red to one team, he did.

1

u/JoshNickM 16h ago

It was so awesome to see them get their asses kicked by Spain. Spain, classy, Messi, a fucking classless douchebag.

1

u/Impressive-Power8187 16h ago

Ronaldo needs to pay these bots extra for their hard work

1

u/Jaded-Natural80 15h ago

It never had either of those.

1

u/Acework23 14h ago

Never had class, maradonas teams were the same and this teams last cup win was also tainted af but people forgave it because everyone wanted messi to get one

1

u/Lyndiscan 14h ago

Never had any. All south americans saw was the usual.

1

u/Mr_silly_goose 14h ago

I don’t really think it ever had either of those things, football is all they have

1

u/Far-Tomato-4775 12h ago

They have broken hearts of supporters...yes. this generation have to behave and arrogance has no place... The lads of 86 94 98 2002 2006 2010 2014 ... All were more respected they had a class talent and watched and respected by opponents đŸ€”

1

u/Mental-Inspector-919 9h ago

They did this đŸ’© in 2022 . People just ignored it because of Messi.

They have always been a team of street thugs

1

u/SillyAntonineGoose 9h ago

the only Argentine who ever had class and decorum was Angel di Maria

https://giphy.com/gifs/e67hK6lz2yiA9UtD7j

1

u/AppropriatePop3239 9h ago

It never had either.

1

u/bluemann27 8h ago

Why Nobody Sees it was ever this Kind of Team
agressiv ,cheating and racist Like the whole Country . At least this time it will be finish with the Argentinian Folklore on peoples mind . Is like the début of a me Too mouvement for the whole Country !hope They Will catch the Right Train for the next WC without the persona cult of one player !

1

u/Ok_Fig_5347 4h ago

I was a hardcore Argentina fan. Not after what I saw in World Cup 2026 finals. Very disappointing. A true sportsman will concede with dignity. Not fight with the opposite team after losing.

1

u/Rems_OP 3h ago

Which they had in a 1st place???

1

u/Original-Shallot5842 2h ago

Holy retards in these comments.

1

u/DownhillUphill 1d ago

But did they ever have it?

0

u/Roblist 22h ago

There needs to be a villain in the world cup tbh. Like I feel it would have been more boring without them. I've known people who never watched 30 minutes of football before in their life rooting for Argentina to lose the finals.

-1

u/Embarrassed_Poet_219 20h ago

would say "the Liberals of the soccer world "

2

u/jearbear11 16h ago

Would say the "conservatives" — you'll see them crying and calling foul for no reason, and they provide no proof as to why they think they won.

-4

u/Noseydougisback 1d ago

Vamos Argentina! đŸ‡ŠđŸ‡·

1

u/TheEasySqueezy 21h ago

The Falklands says hi. Now cope.

0

u/Noseydougisback 6h ago

Hahaha you mean Las Islas Malvinas??? VAMOS ARGENTINA đŸ‡ŠđŸ‡·

1

u/TheEasySqueezy 3h ago

You’re welcome to try again, don’t think it would go well for you.

1

u/Noseydougisback 3h ago

Hahaha as if I have control over that. I’m just here to support my beloved Argentina đŸ‡ŠđŸ‡·

-6

u/LetterheadFun1824 1d ago

Cause they shoved the Spanish subs that were misbehaving? Lol

3

u/vukkuv 1d ago

The only thing the Spanish players did was playing football and then celebrate the victory, the only ones misbehaving were the argentine sore losers.

-1

u/LetterheadFun1824 1d ago

Nah. Rodri was acting like a clown all game and even post game. Cucurella should have been sent off but La Liga privileged mfer they are
