I went to Meijer today and the Taylor Farms stuff wasn't even discounted. I told a couple not to buy it. I'm sure they thought I was nuts. I wish them luck!

Yup the way they handled this (by apparently bribing the government) is worth than if they had just been honest about the outbreak. I will probably never trust them now because I've seen them sweep things under the rug before.

This is how I feel about it too. I have purchased their salad kit bags on a semi-regular basis, but I won't be buying them anymore after this fiasco. I don't even buy the bags with lettuce, there's just no way to trust that any of their product is clean if they're this brazen about paying bribes.
Hopefully Costco and other retailers remove their product.

Funny fact: the FDA was created partly at the meat industry’s urging. After Upton Sinclair published The Jungle, people started freaking out about their food (which wasn’t really the point of the book). Federal meat inspection was introduced to restore trust and get people buying meat again.
Forgetting these lessons will cost them in the end.

This bug is very hard to trace. It can take 10-14 days for symptoms to show up so the real work is getting all of the affected people to recount what they ate and where they ate for the last two weeks and then find the common connections. More detective work than lab work.

We have a lot less after cutting a quarter of staff from the CDC. I believe it was 17 people dedicated to tracking food-borne parasites and now it's just a couple. Less manpower, longer turnaround checking up on leads, less people to trace outbreaks.

Threw out a bag of shredded iceberg lettuce yesterday because it had the TFRB product code on it and matched the dates of the recall. But the Kroger I got it from here in Georgia hasn't even mentioned the recall on their website.

Did the retailers being supplied with Boars Head meats stop using them after the reports of listeria killing people, old meat residue caked onto walls, etc? Kinda makes me just want to grow my own food which of course wont work, because I lack a ton of skills needed to ensure my day to day survival..

I'm 37 and I can remember hearing the "Taco Bell gives you diarrhea" thing even as a young kid in the 90's. Honestly I think it's kind of rooted in racism. If I had to guess since TB was the first major fast food chain to do Mexican inspired food back in the day when TB expanded and went nationwide the right-wing conservatives of the day probably spread misinfo about how "that Mexican fast food made me have diarrhea and get sick!" when they never even ate there or they got sick because of the 12 pack of beer they drank before getting TB for the first time or whatever and blamed the TB. Maybe someone older than me can confirm, but I'd guess the "TB makes you shit" thing probably first appeared as a cultural meme within a few years of TB going nationwide in the 70's.

TB uses oats as binders in their ground beef, making it a somewhat decent source of fiber. That's on top of the actual beans some items have. It is 100% because American's diet is so shit that their tummy can't handle a small amount of fiber.

People love to eat it at three in the morning after drinking because it's the only thing that's opened and they also don't have a lot of fiber in their diet normally.
If you're not drunk and you're eating a balanced diet already, Taco Bell's not doing anything to you. The food may taste like shit, but it's not going to give you the shits. Normally, that is.

The agency said Sunday a test that indicated a sample of iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms de Mexico carried the cyclospora parasite was a false positive. However, that only applies to one specific shipment of lettuce supplied by the company, which the agency does not believe was the vehicle that sickened more than 1,600 people and potentially thousands of others.
In a Monday clarification, the agency said its false positive does not change its prior conclusion that the outbreak is linked to shredded iceberg lettuce from central Mexico supplied by Taylor Farms, which was also served at some Taco Bell locations. The agency is still advising Americans not to eat recalled iceberg lettuce.
