FAQ Updated 4/10/2025 with more details, changes, accessories, and troubleshooting.
Hi, I made a quick FAQ for the Portal. Admin's should consider making this a Sticky thread. I know I missed some, so everyone feel free to add to this. I tried to be as serious as possible and not be facetious in some of these answers as I'm naturally a very sarcastic (borderline 370422@, lol) person.

Family!
One of the things it appears the new mod team agrees upon is we need better, more fun flairs! So this is what we would like for our members to do: submit some ideas for flairs you would like to see! Upvote those suggestions you really like!
Be creative! Be funny! Find the best/worst puns! Let's give ourselves a bit more personality around here!
We will leave this post up here for a spell so everyone has a fair chance to share their thoughts. Then we will take the most popular (and maybe a few we just really like) and make new flairs so everyone can pick something that suits them.
Looking forward to what idea you all have!
EDIT: New flairs now available!!! But keep submitting your ideas and we will keep adding to the options!

Like, are there any features you could think of, that Sony can bring to the current Portal?
Like I’ve read at first it didn’t have PS plus streaming.

Ps5 is hardwired to my internet modem in North America.
I am visiting South East Asia for 2 weeks, which is about 12,000km/7,500mi geographical distance from my home console.
While I don’t have my PsPortal with me, I was able to connect via remote play on my iPhone 13 and I’m able to play my PS5 games through the app using local wifi.
Sony indicates that PS remote play requires at least 5mbs connection speed.
I’m connected to the local wifi, with a speed of about 50mbs upload/download. The connection is stable.
Performance is passable. There is a noticeable half second input lag. So you won’t be playing any FPS/action oriented games, or any games that requires precision.
You can play turn based games perfectly fine though, albeit with the aforementioned lag. But given that turn based games don’t require the same level of precision as an FPS, I would say performance is passable.
The graphics is good. I can read everything on screen, and the graphics look just as good as though I’m using the app back in North America.
Overall, while the games you can play are limited - I’m pleasantly surprised that I was able to connect to my ps5 via remote play half way across the world, and also play some of my games.

Hey Everyone,
I’m heading out on a trip tomorrow and was wondering about the connection from your home to an airport? I understand there is probably a minimal chance i get it to connect on the actual plane, but what are your thoughts on connecting while at the airport?
It would be from nassau long island to LaGuardia airport.
Any feedback os appreciated!

for those that have played both, which did you find more enjoyable to play on the portal?
I am planning to buy one for my next game and play it mostly on the portal.

We recently had to start over after our previous community was deleted, so we’re rebuilding from scratch and we’d love to have you with us.
This isn’t just a place to talk about PlayStation games or trophy hunting. It’s a place to meet new people, make friends, find co-op partners, celebrate Platinums, ask for help, or simply have someone to chat with after a long day.
The only thing we ask is that you help keep the community alive. Join the conversations, get involved, and don’t be afraid to say hello. Great communities are built by the people in them.
Whether you’re a casual gamer, a hardcore trophy hunter, or just looking for like-minded people to hang out with, you’re more than welcome.
Add my PSN; Sebhog99 and I’ll invite you to the group!
Hope to see you there!!

This may seem weird but i just had to test them out.
Now My PS5 is connected with a wire to my router. So it's always on top when it comes to network, however, playing my own games via remote, I feel a huge latency. I decided to sign up for PS + Premium to test cloud version, and holy macaroni the difference is huge. Now to the technical details.
I have a 500 up and download, with a extra router connected that's only for my gaming devices, I use 5ghz on it and I have strong connection with 1-2ms when using remote.
On cloud however, I have a strong connection with 20ms, but the games simply react faster and work better. Anybody know why?

Ok so I’ve got the portal set up to the ps5. I have premium subscription. But I’ve read somewhere I can set it up so my son can play his ps5 games like fifa and I can play cloud games on portal at the same time.
Please if anyone can give me a step by step guide I would be very grateful

Let me start by saying that I love my PS5 and never had any problems and as for my Playstation Portal I’ve finally got it 2 days ago; and I’m in love with this thing.
However, for context, I think there’s something with my Wi-Fi and the Portal might have “initiated” it. After setting up my Portal and even playing on it (2 days ago), I noticed yesterday that I’m now unable to connect to my internet.
It recognizes my Wi-Fi, but the connection fails. I have tried setting up the internet advanced settings on my PS5 and changing my bandwith and DNS-server to manual (I tried Google and Cloudflare); I even put my PS5 in safe mode and cleared the chache.. but nothing unfortunately.
Is there someone who has had the same problem and knows how to fix this? I’m using Wi-Fi, because an ethernet cable wouldn’t cover the distance between my PS5 and the router/ adapter.
I hope someone can help me out. 🙏🏻

Question #1 is: Does it work without internet to play the disc in the drive?
#2 if it does need internet: If playstation's servers shut down is it a paper weight?

I’m trying to sell my PlayStation portal since I haven’t used it in like 8 months and when I tried to plug it in nothing happened. No lights or screen or nothing. Doesn’t power on at all and I’m not sure if it’s even charging. I’ve tried plugging it in to the ps5, using the charger from my Samsung, and I’ve tried a low watt brick. Granted it’s only been charging for like 15 minutes but I feel like that should’ve been enough to at least power on. Any ideas what it could be or how to fix it?
Update: after a couple hours on the charger it finally turned on!!

For the people who travel with their portal, how do you get the best internet connection while on the road? If you have a portable Hotspot which one do you use or recommend? My phone carrier is Verizon if that matters at all. My phone's Hotspot does pretty well besides the times I hit deadzones/alot of trees. I've read Inseego and the Verizon Jetpacks are good for the portals connection but just want to hear any other recommendations or if the ones recommended were accurate.
Remote play keeps dropping out almost immediately to a few minutes later saying it lost connection to ps5. Are there some settings I should change on my PS5?
My PS5 is not hardwired currently (i do plan on doing that in the very near future - any recommendations on extenders and such is appreciated as well as my wifi router is in the living room and PS5 is in my bedroom) Would that make a difference for cloud stream and remote play connection?
- Google gave the recommendation of using another router connected to the main router (main router is tmobile and apparently they don't have the uPNP setting due to a security measurement? As well as it being a family members internet router so im not able to play around with the settings), along with powerline ethernet equipment.
Is this accurate??
Any tips and tricks for anything regarding the portal is appreciated. Legit just got it 2 days ago.
The main game that is trying to be played is 2k26.
Sorry for the lengthy read, and thank you in advance! I seriously need all the tips and tricks!!!

I have MGS Delta purchased. I have been streaming this on the Portal for the past 2 weeks. Today when I tried to boot it up, I got a message saying “This streaming game is no longer available”.
Is this a common issue for games you own to no longer be streamable?
r/PlaystationPortal • u/Time-File5268 • 1d ago
My son has a ps5 with a ps plus account for streaming. I’ve just brought the portal. Is there a way that he can play ps5 games and I can play a cloud game on portal at the same time. Without buying two subscriptions

Input delay streaming outside is not that bad, lets hope indoors is better
