It's been a long journey, but she's been a champ!

As of today, Peppy is fully healed and ready to join the crew!

We spent the week dog sitting a noodle horse, but we're home now and Yenny is sick and tired of the heat (just like her mother). Luckily for Yenny, dad has taken her to the local games cafe where she is a regular. Of course, yen always positions herself in front of the air con. Unless someone has food, of course...

You can see Yenny mid song, Yenny extending as much as possible and drinking out of the big girl bowl and her being very vigilant as noodle horse had a treat that she was taking too long to eat

While on vacation, she'd go and swim three and four times per day on warm days, and she was always like a new dog afterwards - happy and energetic. :)

My good friend the dog was diagnosed with cataracts a couple years ago, and underwent surgery on one eye to preserve her vision shortly thereafter. I worry I didn't completely understand what the long term would look like at the time. I was aware that she'd need maintenance eyedrops forever, but I didn't totally understand how common secondary glaucoma was, and the possibility or likelihood that she might lose her vision in that eye eventually anyway.

She's had ups and downs since the surgery, mostly ups, but over the past 8 months she's had a couple glaucoma spikes, been prescribed additional meds, and been offered endoscopic laser surgery to try and stave off these pressure spikes, and she has insurance so that's a possibility, but it seems like this is just delaying the inevitable, and while she's only 9-years-old, I don't want her to spend months and months out of her next several years undergoing surgery after surgery just to buy the littlest bits of vision when I might be able to just buy her some comfort by removing the eye and giving her a chance to adjust while she's still quick and strong.

TL;DR: I'm just looking for your stories. I've been reading lots, but I haven't seen much about the laser surgery or if anyone here has tried that, and whether they would recommend someone else try it. I'm inclined not to. I halfway regret doing the cataract surgery in the first place, I'm not certain that was the right thing for her quality of life to begin with, and in that regard I wish I'd found y'all sooner.

My beautiful pup got his eye removed on Tuesday, and this photo was taken today. Had an absolutely freak accident where a piece of a plant ended up inside of his eyeball (with no entry point) and caused mass infection and inflammation. We tried everything for a week before surgery: steroids, antibiotics…you name it. Because there was no entry point, vets couldn’t figure out what the hell was happening. They eventually told us that the only thing they could do was to remove the eye, which would also let us get the information required to know what had happened. After the results from the biopsy came back, 3 different doctors told me they had never seen anything like his case.

He was struggling and in extreme pain, now he’s back to himself. Here’s to a healthy, long pirate life.

She is believed to have primary lens luxation, causing her glaucoma. One eye could not be saved.

The remaining lense is completely luxated since around five months. She also has severe iris atrophy, limiting the effect of Xalatan (making the pupil smaller).

The lens has to be prevented from falling into the front chamber of the eye. If it does, the pressure rises and she can quickly become completely blind.

Reduced effect of Xalatan over time is expected, but so far we have been able to keep the situation under control. It's just yet another way this old lady's body is failing her these days. But it's a bit of a struggle. The bright summer light helps, but when the darkness comes back, it will get even harder.

Of course, Yen found the kitchen immediately and does several surveillance checks a day where the treats are normally stored.

She's very good with the noodle, we put a little bell on the noodle (Yens sister has one too) to help yen understand where they are, and the noodle is very good with them (actually she's perfect and yen and her sister are just 'good' hahaha).

Meet Patchy my beautiful tabby boy! He’s almost a year old!
And Moxy my sweet angel 🪽🩵 When we originally got her from the shelter they said she only had three months left to live, that was over ten years ago! She passed away earlier this year, but she lived a long and beautiful life.

I think I mentioned when I first posted Jonah on here that we were awaiting Embark results on him. We got those today! Turns out he’s 100% Beagle!!! And he has the glaucoma gene. Hindsight’s 20/20, I guess! Or maybe it’s a pirate too. 🥴

Hiro has stitches out yesterday! Vet said everything looks to be healing well. We had to shave his ears because they were so matted.
Hiro is super excited to not be wearing his cone and has settled in to his new normal. Thank you all for your support and words of encouragement!
