Preceptor, please help.​

My nephew got a feedback as intern. He was told he is very knowledgeable and knew all answers when quizzed. But they would not hire him because he lacks personality. And that he was awkward.

He is autistic.

My question is, would you as a preceptor want to know his condition? Or should the schooll inform the preceptors? Should the professor tell the preceptors when this specific feedback was given to them.? Or what should my nephew do?

Please, any advice. Thank you.

Edit: They said if they were hiring they would not hire him.  That's the feedback. He had no intention to be hire at this pharmacy site. He just didn't know what it was that he did or did not do to receive a feedback with "lack personality". He is trying ways to improve. But no input from professor.

I have tattoos on my right arm (I regret them and I am working on getting all of them removed but it takes years). My white coat ceremony is next month. Is it frowned upon to expose them? I have two dresses picked out. Is having tattoos more acceptable now or should I try to find something long sleeve or maybe try to cover with makeup?

What are some good tools/websites/apps to help with studying in pharmacy school? Any advice appreciated!

I'm on my first clinical rotation in the pediatric ICU at my dream hospital, but I feel like I'm underperforming. Maybe it's because this is my first clinical APPE rotation, and maybe I was a bit overconfident starting this rotation, but I rarely find things to intervene on, and I can tell the rest of the team thinks I'm incompetent. I know book smarts don't necessarily translate to doing well on rotation, but I really thought I'd be doing better. If anything, I'm embarrassing myself every week.

I've sought feedback from my preceptor, and she wants me to be more involved on rounds, but I truly feel like I have nothing to add!

How can I redeem myself? How do I identify things to intervene on?

hello, i was hoping to get some insight about what its like working as a pharmacy intern at a specialty pharmacy. what does the day to day responsibilities look like and what is usually the expected hours for an intern?

Rant/ advice

4 weeks into an elective rotation and it feels like I’m not learning anything. My preceptor seems to be busy with her other work which I understand but it also feels like I’m wasting my time. Aside from that when working up patients she says I’m not making any meaningful interventions so I asked if we could work up a case together so I can have a better idea (2nd rotation ever) but they say no.

Idk I just feel lost and I can’t wait for this to end at this point…

I have been out of the game for a while and was wondering if it would be beneficial to get hands-on exposure with patient counseling/auxillary labels, which drugs go in the fridge, the mLs/pen count for diabetes meds, ask the pharmacist (when not busy) what various medications are/moa/side effects, etc, if I am tired and burned out with studying? The obvious answer is that studying full time would probably be best, but I wanted to know if anyone else found it effective to work and study.

Just the title. It is at 9am so yay rush hour. I literally start school in September P1 so although this is my 3rd degree and I've worked professionally for a decade at this point... I've never had a pharmacist intern interview.

I know to work inpatient in Texas you will need an IV certificate. Is this one worth it? I’m thinking about doing the self paced hybrid program and then go in person to Dallas for the final review.

Is it worth it? It’s a lot of money for a certification especially since I don’t have a job in Texas yet after just having moved here.

My Texas license is still pending so I’m waiting on that to be approved.

I am a rising p3 and entering my last year of didactic coursework before APPEs. All of my IPPE rotations I have thoroughly enjoyed because I genuinely love the profession and am passionate about contributing as a pharmacist one day (most likely in a hospital setting, and despite the grind of residency, pursuing one excites me) but I am feeling a disgusting level of burnout from school itself. Socially speaking, the friends I have made in pharmacy school aren’t my closest and most of them are fake and I don’t see myself staying in touch with them after graduation which doesn’t help my mental health at the moment since these are the people I will be around for objectively the most challenging year of school and I feel as though I lack a support system. Though APPEs can be emotionally and financially stressful I know I will get through them because of my passion, but I am just asking here to see if other people experienced similar feelings of burnout/depression or other mental health problems around the halfway mark of being done with pharmacy school, how they coped with it, and hopefully give me hope that it will get better. I am considering getting on medication but am still debating the idea heavily since obviously this group of all people knows the strong benefits and strong drawbacks of medication. Just looking for any support. TIA :)

I’m a community pharmacist and I precept for a lot of IPPEs and APPEs. Most schools require a project during APPE rotations and I usually like to let the student help come up with an idea however some students need a little more push and help coming up with ideas and honestly I run out of ideas sometimes as well.

Hi reddit. I am going into my second year of pharmacy school in Chicago and I’m in need of some words of wisdom/advice. Some context, last semester, I unfortunately did not pass a didactic class and will be held back a year because of that. I have NEVER failed a class before in my life and I am super embarrassed and bummed, especially since I heard a few upperclassmen say that once you fail a class in pharmacy school, you cannot apply for, or be accepted into any residencies post graduation. I’m not sure if that’s true, but I was originally interested in applying to do a residency because I currently enjoy my new hospital internship. I wanted to hear thoughts on this, or if you guys have heard of any peers in the same boat. I already have spoken to my academic advisor, but she hasn’t been much help or comfort since she was just hired recently and is unsure about how this works either. So far, it has felt like the blind leading the blind. Right now, I just look forward to hearing from ANYONE about this. Maybe some advice or literally anything at all! (ig) …I’m kind of in a desperate situation and I have no idea what to do- but one thing I’m sure of is that I’ll still be a pharmacist someday!!

Besides the obvious computer and notepad, pen and paper, when you started pharmacy what do you wish you had?

I'm a P3 (third-year PharmD) student, and people generally consider me one of the strongest chemistry students in my class. This semester we're doing analytical chemistry, and ¹H NMR is completely humbling me.

I've watched countless YouTube videos, read textbooks, and practiced problems, but I still feel like I'm missing the one core idea that lets people look at a proton NMR spectrum and systematically determine the structure. It almost seems like everyone who solves these problems is relying on experience or intuition rather than a clear method.

The difficult part for me isn't identifying functional groups or interpreting individual peaks, it's connecting all the fragments into one complete structure.

To make things worse, my classmates are expecting me to understand it well enough to teach them, and I've been putting it off because I honestly don't feel confident myself.

Has anyone else been in this position and eventually had that aha! moment? Was there a particular resource, book, YouTube channel, or problem-solving strategy that finally made everything click? Is there an actual systematic approach, or is it really just pattern recognition that comes with lots of practice?

For context, I usually stay ahead by studying chemistry topics before each semester starts, which is one reason I've done well academically. But I worked during the last vacation, so I didn't have my usual preparation time before this semester began, and I feel like I'm playing catch-up now.

Hey everyone I am a current P4 in the thick of rotations. Out of an abundance of caution or retaliation from University, I will leave that out.

I am drowned financially, and I know I am not alone.

The current APPE model is completely broken. We are required 40+ hours a week of skilled, vital clinical labor for healthcare systems and pharmacies. At the exact same time, we are paying full-time tuition to our universities- thousands of dollars for a year we aren’t on campus using resources.

Because of the exhausting schedule and rotation demands, it is virtually impossible to hold down a part time job. My credit is ruined to the point I can’t access Grad Plus loans. My family is suffering, we can barely afford to eat and I have children.

We aren’t just shadowing. We are giving vaccines, doing MTM calls, counseling, and keeping the pharmacy running. I know many of my APPEs, I was depended on because of pharmacists being on vacation. If we are providing essential labor, why is the system designed to starve us out?

I am full aware it has been like this for decades, but something has to give. In the current economic times, it is just not sustainable.

How do national organizations like ACPE and AACP expect to attract top-tier, diverse talent when the entry price is a year of forced financial crisis?

I want to advocate for change, but I am too terrified to speak up.

How can we, as a community, safely pressure ACPE/AACP to revise the rules?
