I'm trying to identify an animated Peter Pan movie I watched somewhere between about 10 and 15 years ago. I've searched for years and can't find any record of it.

Here's what I remember:

• It was 2D hand-drawn Western animation, not anime or CGI.
• It was fairly long, probably a movie rather than a short episode.
• It was definitely about Peter Pan and Neverland.
• Captain Hook was not in it, or at least I don't remember him appearing.
• Neverland itself looked like the normal/classic Neverland.

The opening is what makes it memorable:

• Peter is taking Wendy to Neverland.
• Peter's shadow separates from him and acts on its own.
• The shadow deliberately drops Wendy into the ocean on the way to Neverland.
• Wendy drowns and dies (I'm pretty sure she stays dead).
• Peter doesn't realize what happened immediately.
• After learning Wendy is missing, Peter meets John and Michael, and they all go searching for her.

The villain seemed to be Peter's own shadow, not Captain Hook.

I've already ruled out the Disney films, Return to Never Land, the 2003 live-action movie, Hook, Peter Pan & Wendy, and the live-action Once Upon a Time storyline with Peter's shadow.

Does anyone recognize this? Even if it was an obscure direct-to-video release, foreign dub, or independent animation, I'd really appreciate any leads.

In the beginning of the movie, the kids are asked to describe their happy thoughts, and they all say something that they will later experience in Neverland. My theory is that there are an infinite number of Neverlands similar to infinite Neverending Stories, etc... and when the kids described their happy thoughts, they were actually creating the Neverland that they were going to visit later that night.

Funciona basicamente associando formas geométricas a sentimentos e traços de carátTriângulos e Linhas Pontiagudas: Transmitem perigo, dinamismo, esperteza ou maldade. É por isso que os vilões da Disney geralmente têm rostos compridos, queixos finos, capas pontudas ou ombros angulares.

Once Upon a Time fez um trabalho incrível mostrando esse lado sombrio dele, mas se olharmos bem para a obra original de J.M. Barrie e até para o desenho da Disney, existem várias pistas de que o Peter Pan não é exatamente o herói bonzinho que parece.

O sequestro das crianças: Peter vai até o mundo real e leva crianças para a Terra do Nunca. Embora pareça uma aventura divertida, ele basicamente as afasta de suas famílias para que elas sirvam de companhia para ele.

A falta de empatia: O Peter é extremamente esquecido e focado apenas em si mesmo. Ele esquece as pessoas com muita facilidade (inclusive a Sininho e a Wendy depois de um tempo) e vê o perigo real e a morte quase como um "jogo".

Pensando por esse lado, o Capitão Gancho e os piratas deixam de ser apenas vilões cruéis e passam a parecer adultos que estão tentando sobreviver ou combater uma entidade mágica que prende crianças em uma ilha.

We all know the magical story of Neverland, the fairy dust, and the boy who wouldn't grow up. But if you actually look into the psychological undertones of J.M. Barrie’s original concepts and the darker historical interpretations, the story changes completely.

Peter Pan wasn’t a savior; he was a gatekeeper who "thinned them out" whenever they aged. I just finished a short 4-minute visual documentary diving into the sinister truth and the psychological trauma behind the myth, stylized entirely in dark gothic oil paintings.

Recently rewatched the sequel to Peter Pan (Disney version). Anybody find it absolutely preposterous that they named the dog “Nana 2”? It just feels ridiculously lazy and tacky. Even “Nana Jr.” would be better. Alternatively, give the dog a new name. Also, I feel like Nana 2 doesn’t even hold a candle to OG Nana. Wish she could have used that pixie dust Michael poured into her butt to come with them to Neverland in the first one.

While reading the source material, I start to notice that the plot 2003 version of Peter Pan seems to take some stuff out of the Disney adaptation of the story.

But just how much of the film is taken from said adaptation?

I watched some of Disney Neverland movies when I was a preschooler, as well as Jake and the Neverland Pirates. In 2026 I decided to re-watch them. I watched both Peter Pan movies and all Disney Fairies movies, and I liked them a lot. I wondered if I should also re-watch Jake, but when I remembered some things about it, read a little and watched some fragments, I knew I shouldn't.

This show greatly distorts Neverland and ignores its fundamental basics.
Firstly, it completely removes many characters: Lost Boys, Indians, fairies and all of the pirates from Jolly Roger excluding Hook and Smee. Many other characters are absent for most of the time and appear only in specials, like Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. Indian camp is removed entirely from the island, so we can see an empty place where it should be.

Secondly, the characters who are still there were changed for the worse. Hook and his pirates are no longer scary killers, now they are dumb losers (and only Hook is truly evil). Peter Pan is not a wild children pack's leader, but a legendary wise mentor for Jake and crew. He doesn't have his dagger and I don't know why Hook didn't follow him when he left Neverland.
The more drastic examples are Cubby - originally a Lost Boy in a bear costume, here turned into a pirate without a word, Indian princess Tiger Lily replaced with "Tiger Lilies" - man-eating plants with tiger faces and Wendy Darling becoming a pirate (in the Peter Pan movie she stopped the boys from becoming pirates).

What's more, Jake show makes many aspects of Neverland universe shallow. In this cartoon everything is related to pirates (Pirate Genie, Pirate Pyramid, Pirate Princess, Crab Pirates) or called "pirate" even if it's just a random thing. (Pirate Pool of Youth - it's just a magical pool unrelated to pirates). This show is overusing word "pirate" and pirate themes so Neverland and its universe look like a pirate land, while in Peter and Fairies movies pirates are just one of many groups that live there.
The most painful thing for me is how they treated fairies. Jake and crew have a "Fairy Rock" to communicate with fairies, use pixie dust - a gift from fairies, and in one episode they have to go get some new dust because they have lost it. This show is asking for the presence of fairies from all sides, but we don't see any of them except Tinkerbell. They didn't go to Pixie Hollow and get dust from the tree, like we see in Disney Fairies movies, they go to a fountain where they can get as much as they want. It's ironic because Izzy says in every episode that they should only use dust "in emergencies", while they have unlimited, free supplies of it. In Tinkerbell movies, we see how hard to obtain and important pixie dust is, so we don't have to hear it non stop. We just know it should be used sparingly.

In the Peter Pan movies, Neverland was the land of imagination, where children never grow up. Jake ignores these rudiments and treats it like a generic fantasy island. Jake's crew don't even live in Neverland - they live on their own Pirate Island and they go to Neverland for adventures, which makes it a secondary location, not home.

Of course there are also infantilizations (living ship, unserious appearance and personality of characters, jokes featuring babies, Jake and crew not being real pirates), golden coins appearing randomly without explanation like in a video game and repeating the same sequences in every episode.

On the Internet I saw many adult fans of Jake and the Neverland Pirates. If there are any, I would like to ask all of you: What do y'all like in this show? Did y'all watch Peter Pan/Disney Fairies movies? I'm genuinely curious and I'm open to further discussion. Thanks for reading and have a nice day!

It doesn't matter whether it's the DC Comics universe or the DC animated or live-action universe, the point is however is to use J.M. Barrie's original novel Peter Pan, who is not purely an innocent child, we all know he is a callous, amoral spirit who kidnaps children, feeds them pretend food, and ruthlessly, so what's your ideas on him in the DC Universe.

Margaret Kerry was the live-action model for Tinker Bell from the classic Peter Pan movie, and thanks to her, an iconic and memorable Disney character has came to life in the fantastic classic 1953 Disney film.

However, Margaret has sadly passed away recently due to lung cancer at the age of 97.

Thank you, Margaret, for being such a wonderful model behind the film and making Tink such a memorable Disney film.
