What is a Pescetarian?

Due to some recent questions on what is and what is not allowed while living as a Pescetarian, I decided to make this thread.

"A Pescetarian diet typically includes some or all of vegetables, fruit, nuts, grains, beans, eggs and dairy."

Typically someone is a Lacto-Ovo Pescetarian, which means they consume fish, eggs, and dairy-based products. Their only dietary restriction is other types of meat and poultry.

It can be a personal choice to restrict these animal-based products from your diet and won't have any significant impact on whether you are or are not a pescetarian.

So enjoy the food, and welcome to the subreddit!

Need help finding warm protein sources

Been trying to be vegetarian/pescetarian for a few weeks
And been running into a weird wall
I feel like I’ve been eating worse since starting and noticed a small dip in energy
First and foremost I don’t like nuts at all
And I feel like a lot of protein comes from nuts
I also a pretty strong aversion to cold foods but wouldn’t mind a salad every so often

I still eat eggs, cheese, and meat based broths
I just don’t like the meat due to textures grossing me out

I’d prefer easy/low prep meals as I’m chronically ill :(

TLDR
I need more easy protein options that can be served warm, I don’t like nuts at all

Any help is appreciated!

Best thing to first eat after being vegetarian?

Hi everyone! I've been vegetarian for the past ten years. I've recently decided to become pescatarian for health reasons. I am having a hard time wanting to do so since I'm vegetarian for moral reasons, so my compromise with myself is that I'm only going to eat salmon or shrimp, which I really enjoyed before being plant-based. What meal/dish would you all recommend as a good "first step" back into eating salmon/shrimp? I was a child when I became vegetarian so there are a lot of meals that I haven't tried. I love all cuisines and flavors. Thank you!

Can't really see the salmon but it's on there!

Pretty pleased with the timing. Egg yolks were still runny and creamy and the salmon was a perfect midrare.

Topped with fresh dill in yogurt and lemon.

Has anyone made the leap from pescetarian to vegan? Is it tough / worth it?

i'll try to be as diplomatic as i can cause i know the "v" word can make people annoyed. i've been pescetarian for almost a decade now. i met my vegan gf a few years ago and she doesn't hide the fact that she doesn't love me eating fish but its never been a problem because i don't eat it around her. whenever we go out for dinner i'll get a veggie meal and i genuinely don't dislike them (most of the time)

Recently we've talked about moving in together. she's never mentioned me changing diets but i feel like it'll make her happy and not to be too mushy it's something i'm at least willing to try for her. so any tips from anyone to make the transition a bit easier? or things i should do before i take the plunge?

Ethically Sourced Animal Products

I’m new to any form of “non-meat eating” and have been transitioning to a pescatarian diet. Before I get into my questions; I will do what fits my budgets and works for me but I do want ideas.

I’ve already cut all meat(pork, beef, chicken, etc.) out of my diet and I am eating mostly beans, lentils, and seafood as my proteins.

I’m looking for suggestions on ensuring seafood and animals products are ethically sourced. I substitute what I can for non animal products(almond milk for milk) but there are some things the price just ends up too much or I can’t stand the taste/texture. With seafood my research has pointed mostly to wild caught and not farm raised. I pretty much only purchase canned or frozen as I’m further inland, some fresh freshwater seafood is possible but uncommon(or $$).

Mostly I am looking for tips/advice as far as animal products like cheese, butter, yogurt and pre made sauces(trying to make mostly my own) and ensuring they are ethically sourced. Or any other animal product that I may not be considering.

I’ve done my research on eggs and what labels actually mean something but for other products it has been difficult as they usually don’t have labels pertaining to sourcing. My closest grocery stores are Walmart, Target, Publix, Kroger, ALDI(US version), Food City and Costco. Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and Sprouts are other options but 30+ mins away. Some local farmers/farmers markets but only seasonly.

My overall goals are minimal animal cruelty and minimal environmental impact. Any advice is welcome, just don’t be rude. TYIA 😊

Looking to return to fish after 13 years vegetarian. Does anyone have any good meals ideas to ease me into it?

I'm thinking pasta with a small amount of salmon maybe? I'm concerned about overloading my stomach and reacting badly, so I want to start small, I just don't know where to start!

It got a little bit big so I've been nibbling for a couple of hours now, but it's a real treat.

**Mezza platter:**

- Labneh with some aromatic-infused olive oil

- Sardines with olive oil

- Roasted red peppers with avocado tossed in chili flake

- Diced tomato, pickled shallot, and capers with lemon.

- Feta-stuffed olive

- Flax flatbread toasted to make homemade crisps.

**The entree:**

- Vegetarian stuffed portobello and zucchini with a crisp panko and yeast crust. Dusted with smoked paprika.

- A chickpea salad with corn, peppers, cherry tomato, and feta.

- Topped with creamy recaito dressing and fresh parsley.

**Dessert:**

- Pistachio mousse with crushed roasted salted pistachios mixed throughout.

- Lightly macerated raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries with freshly cracked black pepper.

- A light honey drizzle over-top.

I want to become a pescetarian and I have some questions

Hi. I want to become a pescetarian for health reasons. I started trying the diet nearly a week ago and it's been less stressful than I thought it'd be. I'm adapting to it much better than I thought and I'm discovering I really enjoy it.

I have a few questions/concerns about doing this long term: - I really like canned sardines, but they have a lot of sodium and I even saw a study that said they have a lot of microplastics, what are healthier but still cheap seafood I can use more regularly? - If I enjoy catfish, sardines, and salmon, what other seafood would I like? - How do I know if the company producing/selling the fish is meeting the proper standards? - Since you aren't eating fish all the time, what are your favorite non fishy dishes? I have a rice cooker so I'd love to hear some ideas on what to do with that! - Since it's not about eating fish all the time, is it a smarter to bulk buy something like frozen fish to eat over several weeks, or to just batch make leftovers? - Where's the best place to buy fish?

My first meal as starting pescatarian

For dinner I made some baked salmon, with bit salt and paprika seasoning. As well as mashed potatoes w carrots and milk, faux Bechamel sauce (milk instead of heavy cream) with nutmeg and some cucumber slices. For dessert I made a fruit salad from bananas, strawberries and cherries. Thinking to top it with Greek yoghurt.

Need advice: Possibly switching from vegetarian to pesc

I am recovering from OCD/a restrictive ED. I was ethically vegan for 6 years, but realized it was just unrealistic, it became more of a moral OCD compulsion and general egotistical pedestal for myself rather than the animals, I didnt like who I was, how I treated others, so I went vegetarian a year ago and have been having eggs, dairy. Ive vowed to never eat meat because I love animals

I have been eating worsecheschire (however the fuck you spell that shit) for the last 2 months without realizing there were anchovies. And there is a selfish part of me that wants to try tuna/ salmon and maybe switch to pescatarian. I'm just seeking advice here on what would benefit me mentally, physically and if im still considered an ethical person if I claim I love animals yet consume them.

Do you also notice your body getting tired or can’t focus on one thing when you cut meat from your diet.

I’m scared to eat chicken again, cuz American meat just doesn’t taste the same when I was young before 😭😫
