Hi all! I’m new here but I hope someone can help me.

I’m disabled so use period underwear as they are slightly easier on me than pads and whatnot. I love my underwear from Goat Union on Etsy but they are so hot, heavy, and bulky, and right now they are the only underwear I feel safe using as I had a Nexplanon implant inserted in an effort to stop my period and my body is still adjusting, so I spot and bleed daily.

Are there period underwear that aren’t so heavy and hot? I do have a latex allergy and can’t use charcoal due to medication I take, but any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

I have m and s period knicker three pack. They smell really metallic and horrid I don’t know what’s in the fabric? Is it trapping old blood etc. First time trying period knickers.

It’s not me because i have pretty light periods and sometimes just bleed into regular knickers and it’s nothing like this stinky smell??

what do you guys like to use and why? personally i find pads itchy and tampons dry. i was thinking of getting reusable period panties but the idea of bleeding into the same pair seems a bit offputting😅

I'm a 29F who's about to start having periods after a 14 year break. I only had periods for about a year (maybe) before going on BC.

Anyway I am extremely curious about period underwear and free bleeding. I would not like to use any insertables and be fully sustainable.

How do you transition? I'd like to use them immediately as soon as I start but it seems like from my research of other people everyone starts slowly with one pair to see if it works. Then buys more/different brands. Do I need to use pads first while I figure it out?

No idea what my flow will be like - this is a major learning experience.

Any other general period tips or advice also welcome. I feel clueless.

Okay so I’ve been struggling with my periods leaking through both tampons and menstrual cups. And it’s not necessarily just when my flow is heavy either, it’s like my tampon will be half soaked but the other half will just miss the mark? I’m not quite sure how that happens but I’ve struggled with it since I first started using tampons. Same thing with a menstrual disc, it just leaks a bit no matter the angle!

I wanted a pair of period underwear just to have as a backup because I definitely would not be comfortable using them on their own. I went with the thong from Knix and i’m kind of disappointed. I haven’t used it on my period yet but I tried it on and the crotch is so dense.

You know how some people struggle with a camel toe when they wear leggings? I’ve always had this issue and a liner seems to fix it for me. I thought the thong would kind of be like that but instead it creases upwards and gives me a VERY NOTICEABLE camel toe.

Anyways, i’m looking for a thong that’s not SO bulky/stiff as a backup for a tampon or menstrual disc. I was looking at Saalt but I went with Knix because I have a physical store near me. Any experience with Saalt or any other recs would be greatly appreciated!! :) I’m in Canada if that matters.

Which brand would you recommend? I have one older pair of period underwear that I like from Aerie but they don’t make them anymore. I have a light-moderate flow and like to wear boxer/short styles for sleep and prefer briefs or bikini styles with minimal seams under my work scrubs. Also, is there any thing I should know about sizing?

I've never tried period underwear before, I exclusively wear thongs so I've always just used tampons. I hate how pads feel lol. However, I have a polypectomy coming up and I won't be allowed to use tampons for 2-3 weeks afterwards, and they're telling me to expect some saline/blood. It wouldn't be like a heavy flow. Has anyone tried the period thongs? Are they worth it? Do they feel bulky? I also wonder if they might work for the last couple weeks of postpartum bleeding so I can note that for the future lol last time I was desperate to get out of the huge postpartum undies 😂

I’ve worn pads my entire life and today is my first day wearing period underwear. Does anybody know how long it takes to stop feeling so uncomfortable not having a pad on? My body is just so used to having a pad on that even though the period underwear feels great and hasn’t leaked I feel like I can’t sit or walk normal. How long did it take to just be comfortable with them?

I don’t need a real leak proof period underwear (I see many 100% cotton in body but still 90% polyester in the pad options), but a cotton underwear that allows me to going out for a jog for an hour without using any pads or tampons. 100% cotton will be ideal, but I am realistic enough to compromise. Is there such thing (somewhere between a regular underwear and a leakproof period underwear with close to 100% cotton).

Saalt is running a sale so depending on the price I'm considering getting some of their period underwear. I use them as a backup for a menstrual cup and rarely have leaks, so their absorbency isn't my concern (please share if you've had bad or great experiences though).

I am firmly between a small and medium in most women's bottoms is why I am asking for a recommendation. I have a size small in cotton from Thinx that are just a smidge too tight, but wearable. And a size small from Tomboyx that fits better. My measurements do put me within the medium for Saalt (hip-39", waist-30.5", jeans either 4/6 depending on the brand and style), but wanted to get more feedback.

I typically wear seamless-nylon bikini underwear in size medium cause the smalls have tight leg holes or a low rise, but anytime I go to another fabric (mostly cotton) a size medium is too big because the leg seams and fabric stretch out. So do you recommend true to size, or sizing up or down depending of the fabric type?

I am looking for some other brands of period underwear. I currently wear period underwear from the Primark (NL), but I am having problems with them. One is I'm an inbetween size, so the L is too tight, espically around the inner thigh area, but the XL is too big. Second, is that they are rough and scratchy, mostly around the sitching with the tigh, and thirdly they sound like I have a plastic bag around my butt all the time. I haven't had them long, about 1-2 years, and I wash them on cold water and air dry them.

But anyways, I'm looking if anyone could recommend or give opinions on a brand they like. I am looking at Wuka, period Aisle, and ModiBodi. I am a heavy bleeder so anything with good absorbtion is appreciated and comfortable for daily cycling (main mode of transport).

I always take my underwear off and immediately clean in the sink until the water runs clear. Then I hang them to dry and save them for when I do laundry. I always wash them on cold. Sometimes I put them in laundry bags, sometimes I wash them with other clothes, and sometimes I wash them by themselves. I also sometimes pre-soak them for like 30 minutes or so with water and vinegar. Last time I also added a little dish soap

The problem is, the underwear starts to feel hard and crusty in the gusset area. I understand that after a certain amount of time this is bound to happen. But feel like it happens sooner than it should. I just washed all my period underwear together with just a few additional laundry pieces and noticed that when they tried, the revol and Knix pairs that I got in December were starting to feel that way too. Am I doing something wrong? I feel like period underwear should last more than 8 months without the gusset starting to feel a bit hard and crusty. Are they not getting clean somehow?

I tried seamless panties for the first time and they were extremely comfortable and light weight. I felt like I wasn't even wearing anything. Plus the fact it shows no panty line marks.

I bought it from a local shop for nearly ₹230. It was free size. You can get it cheaper at sales

I love tampons and they make my periods 10x better. Of course everything else abt periods suck but having to see my pads bunching up make it suck more, and pads felt hella uncomfortable even when not bunched.

The thing that sucks though as an environmentalist girlie is that tampons are not eco-friendly. I currently own the Tampax Pearl super sized tampons. I used the cardboard applicator ones at school before but what sucks is that they don’t have good leak guard protection. I usually put a panty liner on to catch any leakage and the difference between what my panty liner caught with the Tampax Pearl vs Tampax cardboard was pretty insane.

Anybody have recommendations for great leak-proof eco-friendly tampons?

Before you guys suggest switching to period underwear: I politely ask that you do not mention that at all 😭 I do not want to wear period underwear because I hate feeling the sensation of blood coming out of my vagina and onto underwear, even if the underwear is protected. With tampons I hardly feel the gushing because they take up that space. Without tampons I feel so uncomfortable.

And unfortunately, menstrual cups and discs are not an option because my mom is afraid of me using them. I tried convince her many times and she wouldn’t let me.

The rinse part of my period underwear’s cleaning routine has become so annoying and time consuming. Naturally, these items are meant to be absorbent. I also have a heavier flow.

How are we rinsing them out quickly? When I throw them onto the floor of the shower and turn on the shower head, The blood doesn’t all come out. My shower head doesn’t spray very far out so only one area is getting hit at a time. I also don’t shower every time i’m rinsing the underwear so I can’t always just rinse them as i’m showering. I also don’t have a very angled bathtub so the water doesn’t run down the drain as quickly, leaving the blood to flow around the underwear resulting in longer rinse times. I can’t just sit there for upwards of 15-20 minutes rinsing out a days worth of underwear. I’m at my wits end with this step.

Anyone have any tips for speeding up the rinse step??

I’ve always been on the heavier side, but after having two kids in the last three years, I’ve developed an apron belly that’s become something I deal with every day.
I almost always wear my underwear pulled up over my belly along with leggings, but I’ve noticed the skin underneath my belly gets really damp throughout the day, especially in the heat. That moisture can lead to irritation and discomfort.
I’m curious what other people do on a daily basis to manage this. Do you use a specific type of underwear, powders, moisture-wicking liners, creams, or something else? Has anyone found a routine or product that actually works well for keeping the area dry and preventing irritation?

So I've been wearing period underwear for a few years now. I like the boxer ones from Aisle because they go up a decent way in the back. I have other styles from them too and it happens with them all. I didn't really have this issue in the beginning but this summer it's been not great.

The issue I'm currently having is whenever I sweat a bit the sweat/blood migrates out to the fabric around the gusset and then through my clothes. I'm talking about just going around with life when it's hot in the summer. If I walk anywhere, even short walks to a store or restaurant or wherever. I'm not wearing them all day, just a few hours or less. Just whenever I get sweaty. If I sit in my air-conditioned living room it's fine no issues but can't really stay home all the time. However, whenever I go out I'm afraid it's going to leak through my clothes. Almost to the point that I feel I might have to go back to disposables.

I tried searching this issue and couldn't find anything so I'm not sure if I'm just an odd duck here and this doesn't happen to others. If it does though, has anyone come up with a solution or any ideas here?
