/r/Pensacola Mayoral AMA Series

Over the month of July, /r/Pensacola will host AMAs for the mayoral candidates. All six qualified candidates have been invited to participate, and so far we've had a very positive response.

We're excited for the community to engage with the candidates and grateful they're taking the time to chat with all of us. In exchange, we expect the conversations to remain respectful and productive.

The schedule is below, along with links to AMAs. Candidates will make their posts and leave them up to accumulate questions before returning later in the day to answer questions.

we got the sandwiches, a salad, their cola and mint lemonade, fries, and the hummus with extra bread. everything was SO inexpensive!! i think the total was $30. we took our extra hummus to the beach as a snack and it was perfect! we will definitely be coming back. yall need to go and support this place. 10/10 on everything

Pensacola is the setting for HBO's new season of its crime show.

For any true crime people here, the first episode of the second season of A Killer Among Friends on HBO Max is about the Pensacola PI woman who went missing and eventually found dead in 2016/2017.

I could be wrong, but during some of the interviews, it looks like they used Seville for the backdrop.

The Cost of UWF's Rebrand, Revealed

Here's my summary, but you can browse all of the relevant purchase orders and invoices at this Google Drive link [link to Google Drive folder].

A few comparisons:

$237,200 is equivalent to...

  • the annual salaries of 4 or 5 academic advisors
  • almost 1/3rd of President Diaz’s salary
  • The cost of tuition for 46 students for one year [source].

If you are a UWF student or staff member, I would greatly appreciate any insight you might have about how this change is impacting your own unit financially.

Mayor D.C. Reeves vs. Jermaine J Williams

Post image
57 Upvotes

Although all candidates were invited, only I showed up for the open forum and seized the opportunity to go one-on-one with the current Mayor D.C. Reeves before Pensacola’s development community.

I welcomed the chance to discuss the future of our city, challenge misconceptions, and present my vision for responsible growth.

For too long, some have tried to paint me as anti development or a one issue candidate. Tonight, I made it clear, I support smart development that works for the people who already call Pensacola home.

I walked into that room prepared, confident, and unapologetically myself. I walked out victorious.

Where is hiring in Pensacola?

I’m a 24 year old female currently and I’ve been on a job search for 3 months now and I can’t even get a call for an interview. I’ve worked at Publix, Walmart and cvs in my resume and I have 4+ years of restaurant experience. I’m willing to work part time or full time. I just need a job.

Most of the birds within the colony have retreated to the dunes leaving behind a handful of skimmers who are hunkered down, protecting their eggs and young from blasting winds and rain. I counted about 10-12 chicks huddled in groups around and inside the huts — some under their parents. The surge was reaching halfway into the roped off area by the time I left. We will most likely lose all the eggs and new hatchlings.

I’ll try to confirm actual loss with the Audubon team overseeing the colony.

🥺 hang in there lil guys!

Restaurant recommendations

Hi everyone! A group of friends and I (six people total) are going to be hanging out in the Pensacola area this upcoming weekend. We were hoping to go to chill/relaxed dinner Saturday evening and then somewhere more upscale and nice Sunday evening. We have already looked at a couple of places, but I wanted to hear from the locals what’s actually worth the time and money! We don’t mind spending 50 or so dollars per person on a nicer meal. The Saturday night meal could be cheap and easy though. Just some good food. I don’t think that we have any allergies or crazy picky eaters so we should be able to make just about anything work. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Edit: also would love to hear about the cutest and coolest, local coffee, shops! The girls and I were going to do the Pensacola farmers market Saturday morning and grab coffee and check out some local places while we send the boys to claim our spot on the beach.

Weighing a Suitcase

I don’t own a scale and I’m not interested in buying one. Just need to know if my suitcase is too heavy. Where in Pensacola can I weigh for free?

Solved: just ended up going to Publix. And I got $5 sushi out of the trip 😂

Just saw The Odyssey in the newly renovated imax

Very comfy seats. More space between seats than the old seating. Visually I can tell there’s a higher resolution on the screen than before. Brightness and contrast are better than before. Visual and audio quality were good about as expected. It was extremely loud, to the point of often being too loud in my opinion, but maybe that’s due to the Christopher Nolan movie I was seeing.

Really eager to try out the new Dolby Cinema, I think I will like that even more than the newly upgraded imax

This video has always been one that I have shared to people that move here. Not to scare them, but for them to understand what a bad hurricane can do.

Anyone that has advice they'd like to share to anynew folks if you have questions, let's do it.

Can I walk my foster dog on the three mile bridge path or is it too narrow if a cyclist/jogger/other dog is coming?

I try to be respectful of other people/cyclists and move aside bc I know not everyone likes dogs. Especially since I don’t know much about my foster dog’s history, I don’t want him doing any awkward crotch sniffing or whatever.
Is there enough space to give another person the right of way, or would we be taking a dip in the bay?
Thanks 🙂
