Current Obsession: Pairing different scripts!

Post image
Upvotes

Another entry from my little diary, this time I paired modified pointed pen lombardic inspired letters with gothic cursive.

I love the flow of gothic cursive and it’s one of those scripts that makes me think wish I had learnt it even sooner, it’s so fun!

Nib for pointed pen: Nikko G
Nib for gothic cursive: Brause 1.5mm

Getting over my fear of the broad edge pen!

Post image

Another entry in my little notebook, in this notebook I am trying to make every page different, and it has been very helpful to me from a design standpoint.

I have been doing some pointed pen uncials and a lot of different kinds of pointed pen, but it was time for me to finally pick up the broad edge pen and I am happy that I did, I really like how Uncials are looking with pointed pen Art Nouveau letters.

I used the Brause 1.5mm nib for uncials and Nikko G for the pointed pen Art Nouveau letters!

I hope you like it!

Calligraphy Workshop projects

I attended a wonderful week long calligraphy workshop last year, our instructor was John Stevens and the workshop was hosted at Camp Cheerio, North Carolina. This was so far the most helpful workshop I ever attended.

We studied so many different styles like foundational hand, carolingan, ruling pen, some abstract things and definitely so many discussions about designs. One thing I love about John’s workshops is that he encourages us to find things that are working in our pieces, it is important to find things that work in pieces so we can translate the knowledge into a more general canvas as well in future projects. His constant encouragement to move away from self criticism is so important for all of us artists, we all tend to be very self critical and obviously it’s not the best approach.

Another thing I loved about the workshop was that we were staying in a camp in between the mountains, we had rooms and our classroom pretty close to each other and we had 24 hour access to the classroom where all of our stuff was at, that meant we could practice after our 9-5 classes got over, most of the days I practiced up till 1/2am along with fellow learners who were all so warm and so generous when it came to sharing their knowledge and calligraphy experience. It was like the entire group was leaning and growing together, just typing this out is making me miss the experience so much!!

Copperplate Place cards

Some copperplate place cards I created for a Netflix event, I always appreciate when brands, corporates and planners focus on details like handwritten place cards, and I am always a little extra happy when they want Copperplate or Spencerian place cards

Set Of Three “Love” themed artworks!

I made this set of three artworks for a friend who recently got married, the pattern on first the artwork on the left side is the name of my friend and their wife, it’s hard to read that and it’s intentional, it’s supposed to be there in form of pattern/texture rather than just text.

Then we have the heart shape which is a combination of some abstract letters and readable letters, the readable letters being the smaller pointed pen uncials, the text I wrote is a small part from the Bible, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres”

And then we have the third and final page, which is simple readable pointed pen uncials.

The artwork can be used in three ways, you can either use all three pieces together in that exact order, can be a good thing to get framed and use for decor. Secondly, the first and third piece work as pair and the second heart piece works as an independent artwork. And thirdly, only the second heart piece can be used with the third pointed pen uncials piece.

I enjoyed creating this, my friend and their partner liked it and I hope you enjoy it as well!

Year of the Horse Artwork

I know its a little late for the Year Of Horse artwork, just that if I don’t share it now it stays in my gallery forever, and its better late than never. I created this in February, it’s a little personal project, I like to make Year Of artworks each year and this is my third year, I am excited to even imagine all 12 of these pieces together in future. Each piece will showcase where I was in my calligraphic journey that year and together the 12 artworks can be much more than just pieces, they will be a visual timeline of my growth as an artist.

My father and some friends took their sailboat from Annapolis to the Caribbean and he wrote some nice letters home. I actually transcribed them and can add the link if anyone is interested.

Art Nouveau Letters

Learnt Art Nouveau letters in February 2025 and I have been in love with them ever since. It’s so interesting how these letters look good in pointed pen, broad edge pen, pencil or just an ornament nib, another thing about them is how these letters are almost fluid and how easily they take the shape we want them to have.
Here are some pointed pen Art Nouveau letters, I hope you like them!

Not your standard Pointed Pen work!

I have been doing pointed pen calligraphy for nearly 8 years, I started with modern style, then went ahead and started copperplate, flourishing, offhand flourishing, spencerian & pictorial flourishing and after that everything felt more of less similar up until last year when I started doing this particular style and pointed pen uncials, I find these styles refreshing and they have given me a new way to appreciate pointed pen and further explore the possibilities and help me create different looking artworks from the same tool.
I learnt this style from Mike Kesceg in April last year, and have been in love with it ever since.
How do you find this style?
PS: Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the classic pointed pen styles, Copperplate, Spencerian and others, just that, I find it pleasing that a pointed pen can create something so so different from them.
