Guys so for installing parrot i turned off secure boot and disk encryption. Now after installation and checking if everything works i decided to turn it back on.....that was a very very bad choice...

After that idk why but now my computer just skips the grub window and directly tries to run windows...where it encounters another issue, I get a message saying that the secure boot policy was violated and cuz of that my PIN was reset(I have to log in to my account to set up the PIN each time which is annoying) then sometimes the bitlocker also acts up and asks for my recovery key again and again and again and again

So I just turned off secure boot and disk encryption for now and everything is working ok, the grub window works, windows works and parrot works

But the cons of turning it off is scaring me so I want help on how to run parrot with secure boot on. Any ideas then please help!!!!

I think the issue is with the grub(i may be wrong, I am a literal beginner who is 1 month into linux and this is my 2nd linux distro) for some reason the grub isn't compatible with secure boot policy or isn't up to its standards. Again I may be wrong, so what do I do?

Guys I'm about to install parrot for the first time and the fact that there aren't as many step by step tutorials on installation is making me a bit nervous about messing up

So I just wanna run through yall the steps for installation to see if I'm missing anything

1. Install the iso, use a formatting tool like Rufus and get a bootable pendrive

2. Turn off fast startup and suspend bitlocker temporarily

3. Turn off the system and plug in the bootable USB then startup

4. Finish final setup and partition drive for dual boot setup with windows

I hope I got it right, please let me know if I'm missing anything.

I want to install Parrot in Parallels Desktop on an M1 Pro MacBook. Since Parallels on Apple Silicon requires ARM64, I can't use the available x86 virtual images.

I noticed there are ARM64 virtual images available, but there doesn't seem to be an ARM64 live installer ISO. Is there a reason why an ARM64 ISO isn't provided if ARM64 virtual images already exist?

Yo yo, I installed Parrot but when I turn on my computer no operating systems are detected. I can manually find the efi file to start up Parrot, but I am unsure how I can add that to my bios boot list. I'm using an HP Omen laptop and its default bios.

Im new to parrot os, and linux in general, how does downloading work? Can i go to the website and download from there or do i use the terminal?
I know sudo apt is a thing, but do i have to download the package manager first?

The headline is performance. We now ship an opt-in repository of packages recompiled for newer CPU baselines, x86-64-v3 on amd64 and ARMv8.2-A on arm64. On compute-heavy work like compression, encryption, hashing and media encoding, that runs somewhere between 20% and 50% faster, and security updates keep arriving immediately because package selection is driven purely by version comparison.

On the usability side, the menu system has been rewritten in Go. Every tool now appears in the menu and installs with a single click, with no shell scripts and no leftover dependencies.

There are also official Vagrant boxes for the Home and Security editions, so a clean, reproducible Parrot instance is one vagrant up away, plus a new Firefox start page that collects no data.

Hello all,

I opened the firefox browser this morning and found a very different homepage to the one I'm used to. It even had an option for searching on Google even though I disabled it a long time ago. It's generally a very "busy" page. It's ok, though I love the page with the big stylized blue and green parrot.

More confusing is the fact that there's the option to download the 7.2 version. I ran the command

cat /etc/os-release

and got the result

"VERSION="7.3 (echo)"

Can someone please clarify this for me? Thank you in advance.

I'm trying to set up a clean Parrot OS VM, the version without pre-installed pentesting tools inside VirtualBox

I successfully went through the setup: allocated the resources, booted the ISO, ran the installer from the live desktop, and then removed the virtual CD once the installation on the VDI was complete.

However, I'm stuck with two major issues right after the first boot:

1. APT Package Manager is broken: Whenever I try to run sudo apt update or install any package, APT cannot locate or fetch the packages. It seems like the default repositories/mirrors aren't configuring properly post-install.
2. VirtualBox Guest Additions failing: Shared clipboard (copy-paste) and automatic window resizing are not working at all, even after trying to reinstall the guest additions.

The strange thing is that I actually run Parrot OS bare-metal as the main OS on a physical laptop, and it runs flawlessly there. I am only experiencing these specific issues inside the VirtualBox VM.

Has anyone encountered this repository and Guest Additions bug on a fresh VirtualBox install? Are there any reliable, up-to-date tutorials or specific workarounds you would recommend to fix the mirrors and the guest integration?

Is this possible? I use Google/Gemini for a lot of commands, which led me through setting up Luks configurations before telling me that it basically isn’t supported on ParrotOS.

Figured I would come here and ask actual humans? I see a post from a few months ago with the same question but the solution then was simply to use 2 USBs: 1 for parrot live and 1 for its persistence (?).

When I install the Nvidia drivers and after rebooting and typing nvidia-smi I get this error message: Nvidia-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Secure Boot is disabled.

Does anyone has a fix to this bug?

Hi, I’m seriously pissed after I updated the distro (and the kernel) to fix the copy fail issue, my laptop (which was working perfectly with the previous parrot) now boots to black screen and cursor most of the time. I guess it’s some sort of race condition with graphical components and I am seriously going mad for this for days. Anyone else has this problem and/or knows the fix? Else I’ll abandon parrot because I have to work, not fix at every boot.

Recovery mode works fine, I tried switching from Wayland to X11 but it works for like a boot or two, now I turned on the laptop after 4 days and the issue persists. (Also not a KDE fan).

I am running Parrot OS on my Lenovo ThinkPad, and I am consistently encountering persistent ACPI BIOS errors in the kernel logs. Despite trying various kernel parameters (such as pci=noaer, acpi_enforce_resources=lax, and loglevel=0), these errors persist upon every boot.

System Details:

OS: Parrot OS (Kernel: 7.0.9+parrot7-amd64)

Hardware: Lenovo ThinkPad (Modern series)

The Logs: The following errors appear repeatedly in dmesg:

Modified /etc/default/grub with various parameters to suppress ACPI errors.

The system is currently stable, but I am concerned about why these errors are occurring on modern hardware and if there is any legitimate way to resolve the underlying BIOS/ACPI mismatch without simply masking the logs.

Is there any known fix for this specific Lenovo ThinkPad ACPI implementation, or should I consider these errors as harmless "noise"?

I've been running the Parrot Home edition for over a year now, and I just reinstalled it on my laptop after reading the current version was addressing the recent linux vulnerability issues.

I've been using the NordPass extension on Parrot's Firefox ESR browser ever since I started using Parrot, but now I can't install it. The extension page says I need to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox.

I'd much prefer to stick with the default Parrot version of Firefox ESR because of the security configuration. Is there something I can do? Is there a way to update without losing the Parrot-specific browser configuration?
