Software Textures locked to Low & driver warning popup on RX 590 (AC4 resynced ) – Any workaround for DX12_0 hardware?
Hey guys,
I'm posting this here to see if anyone has managed to find a bypass or fix for a texture streaming issue on older AMD GPUs.
I'm playing the AC4 resynced on an RX 590 (8GB VRAM). At launch, I get the popup warning about my display driver being outdated or incompatible. Once in the game, no matter what graphics preset or texture settings I choose (even if I set textures to High or Ultra in the menus or directly in the config files), the engine completely refuses to load high-res textures. Everything stays stuck on Low and looks super blurry.
Here is my full setup:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 590 (8GB VRAM, Polaris, max Feature Level 12_0. Driver: Adrenalin 23.19.25.01 / 31.0.21925.1001 (latest official legacy driver available for this card))
RAM: 16GB DDR4 3000MHz
Motherboard: MSI B450M GAMING PLUS
OS: Windows 11 Pro 64-bit (25H2)
I've already spent hours trying to troubleshoot this. My drivers are up to date according to AMD's legacy support. I tried using DXVK with custom vendor/device IDs in dxvk.conf to trick the game into thinking I have an RTX 3080. The game launches fine with it, but textures stay on Low. I also manually edited the config file to force texture quality to 4 and set it to Read-Only so the engine can't overwrite it, but the game simply ignores the setting in real time. Switching resolutions back and forth to flush the VRAM cache didn't change anything either.
I know the RX 590 tops out at DirectX Feature Level 12_0, meaning it lacks native 12_1 and 12_2 features like hardware Sampler Feedback. Is the game engine hardcoded to fall back to Low textures on 12_0 hardware to avoid VRAM crashes?
If so, is there any known launch flag, registry tweak, mod, or custom DLL wrapper out there that can force the engine to stream Ultra textures on a 12_0 card with 8GB of VRAM?
