how long does it take to get a reply from admissions?? I emailed them a pretty simple question a month ago and haven’t heard anything. it’s about a program and the program says to email admissions with questions.

As far as I can tell, the only thing I can't do is get into D2L without the authentication atm. I can still get into my email, student portal, and see all my personal information, tax stuff, I can add and drop classes. I just can't get to D2L right now without the authentication. Are they worried that some bad actor will maliciously submit homework for me?

Hi. I’m at my wits end. Another assignment is asking us to use ai as well as is credited to be written by ai. The directions are unclear and the workload for students who refuse to use ai is heavier. And AI is listed as part of the grading rubric. The assignment feels very punishing as a student who doesn’t use AI.

I would like to email a copy of this assignment to the department head and can’t figure out who it is.

so I took the math placement test today and my dashboard says I’m good to go but when I try to register for the class it says I’m eligible for, it says I need to meet the prerequisites first? but then I can’t even register for the pre req class either.

Hi, I'll be taking bi232 this fall and was hoping to read ahead in the textbook before then since I was hearing its a tough class. I was wondering if anyone whos taken the class can share what chapters 232 covers. Thanks in advance

It may not seem apparent, but there are additional costs to the implemented 2-Step Verification process. I usually have to complete this 2 to 3 times every time when logging in, as PCCs systems don't track the completion between all systems, such as D2L and Gmail.

Let's just estimate these 2 to 3 completions take about a minute each time logging in, and there are 3 logins per day 5 days during the week.

This would be a grand total of 15 minutes per week (doesn't sound like a lot, does it?). However, this multiplied by 36 weeks (assuming most students take courses 3 of the 11 to 12 week terms out of the year) is a total of 9 hours a year, just for completing 2-Step Verification.

So, on average, students now spend 9 HOURS, or about AN ENTIRE EXTRA DAY OF WORK EACH YEAR, just sending, receiving, and entering 6-digits codes.

This is in addition to all the days already spent on college coursework or other responsibilities such as working, which then reduces an entire extra day of what limited free time was previously remaining.

Even worse, using the most recent published numbers from 2023, which say there were on average 19,221.7 Full-Time Equivalent students, this would be a total of 19,221.7+ DAYS OF LOST PRODUCTIVITY PER YEAR, or 172,995.3 HOURS PER YEAR....

WHY....?

According to this rubric if I get straight A’s I can get 60 points, 4 points for enrollment, 2 points for job shadowing and 3 points total under the pcc dental clinic experience points. This is 69 total points. For those of you who applied to dental hygiene program what was your total score and did you get accepted or denied? Wondering if it’s even worth going through all the pre reqs if I’m only going to get 69 possible points and not make it into the program.

Hello everyone, I’m very interested in getting into the phlebotomy program but it seems so exclusive with a limited cohort.

Has anyone here done phlebotomy at PCC? If so, do you know whether or not it would be a good idea to get phlebotomy training from that phlebotomyUSA institute? I just need to get my foot in the door with healthcare and I’m interested in this field but entry seems impossible.

Other colleges are just as limited it seems.

Has anyone that applied for the “urgent” student needs funding received anything yet? Just curious if other people are still waiting to hear back, was told they have everything they need for me to be approved and to reach out to them if I don’t receive the funding by the 23rd but I was just curious if other people had gotten anything yet.

I applied for it on the first and was under the impression that it would be a quicker process. (Not complaining, I’m still grateful they do it at all) just seems like a long time for students with urgent needs :/

I’m curious what peoples’ thoughts are on PCC implementing Pangram Ai detection into courses to determine whether or not student work is AI generated.

These Ai detection systems are, more times than not, wrong at properly detecting Ai. Even though apparently this one is the “most accurate”. It will even consider editing through Grammarly as Ai, even though grammarly may only be used to smooth writing the way grammar checking would in Google Docs or Word.

After the end of her leave last month, Dr. Bennings is now officially no longer the PCC President and is separated from PCC, removing the ability to say she is the current President. It appears the trick to take leave to be able to say that you are currently employed was not successful. The only reason I mention this is because I felt it was real shady how she negotiated leave to push out the separation date, after already knowing that she would not be returning to PCC, in an effort to make the mutual separation appear better than actuality.

I think this would allow students the ability to ensure all the policies and schedules are agreeable when registering. With the current system, students do not see the course policies until the course begins, which are agreed upon by continuing in the course; but at this point, it may be too late for the option to drop and switch due to availability.

I have noticed an uptick in instructors ending the term and not accepting assignments earlier during the finals week for 11 to 12 week courses, to ensure adequate time to grade all work and submit final grades before the deadline (the Tuesday following the end of the term). I think it is acceptable for final projects to be due around the Thursday or Friday of Finals Week, as this still provides the majority of the week for students to complete the project in the dedicated Finals Week.

However, this term, I have an 11 to 12 week course in which the Final Project is due on the Monday of Finals Week. The course still has a regular workload up through Week 10, essentially making it so students have to complete double the work during Week 10, just so the instructor has 8 days to complete grading. I would understand if all prior late work was cut off at the end of Week 10 to prevent a massive amount of grading at the end, but I think the Final Project should at least be allowed to be completed during the dedicated Finals Week. This is a week that students have paid for as part of the course; and the instructor is being paid for teaching that week.

What do others think about this issue, as well as what remains reasonable for both students and instructors?

Hi everyone, im hoping to get some advice for the upcoming Fall term. This may not be the right place to put this but im unsure where else to go.

Heres my struggle, i have too many interests. Im struggling terribly to choose a major as each time ive tried before ive felt bored and unmotivated.

Ive tried going into online pcc courses twice and each time ive dropped them as i struggle with the lack of structure and being neurodivergent makes it really hard for me to motivate myself in them. Im hoping in-person classes change that.

I feel like i want to take a class in everything. I have interests in a multitude of classes and subjects but none of them really pertain to any one major or degree, i have interests in many different things and i love to learn about different topics.

Id love to take an art class, a automotive repair class, an engineering and cad class, id love to take a second language, a interior design, a music class, a physical education class. I dont know what i want to do in life, but i want to learn, and i want to explore all of my interests because i know that one or a few of them could lead my down the right path.

So heres my question, how do i go about creating a schedule or choosing a major that lets me go and do all of these things? Before i talk to advising i wanted to get some advice, see if anyone else has this kind of structure as well.

Like... How did we get to this point? What the fuck happened to working over the summer and being able to pay tuition? Or working part-time during the academic year and being able to afford daily essentials?

I am someone who has an interest in economics; and I honestly feel that this is basically a form of generational sabotage. How is it possible for a generation to work longer and harder than ever before, having higher productivity, just to get less in return? And all while stocks soar to all-time highs and the richest in society build large metal dicks just to go up to space for a Saturday afternoon....

The social contract used to be simple, you could graduate high school and get a livable job, or go on to graduate college to get a good job. Now we got left with a situation where you can't even afford to live while working a minimum wage job just trying to earn a college degree, which may not even cover the monthly rent on its own. Now college is a necessity just to get a livable job.

I have begun to notice a trend (at least in the local economy), which I also believe to be part of the generational sabotage. With so many of us being members of the labor market out of necessity, during peak times for college (such as finals weeks), the labor shortage seems to increase (as I would assume college students begin to work less to wrap up classes). However, this reduces the available goods and services produced, which economics says in times of shortage the prices will increase, and goods will be provided to those willing and able to pay the most (which would not be us as college students). So, we're basically told to work and get some of the goods and services we need, or have an even harder time or inability to obtain them.

I also feel this pushing of an increase of society's total work onto college students reduces the benefits that a college degree is supposed to provide. The purpose of college is supposed to be to learn and become more knowledgeable, but I feel it's beginning to turn into more of a game of how to accumulate points to make grades and get a piece of paper at the end (but that's what society says is required). Like, with the time shortage, which society forces as a result of the mismatch between hourly wages and living expenses, I find myself regularly not spending as much time with course material as I would like to actually be able to make connections and understand the world better (actually learning from the material), because I have to go clock back in at work.

Shame on our societal leaders who took a well-functioning society, and turned it into a shitshow where the majority college students can not even afford to spend enough time and/or have the necessary resources to focus on their studies....
