Question or Discussion How do I counter forcing point?

Im a masters tank player and I was playing sigma on hollywood 2nd point and they had a Rein and Moira forcing point and they felt unkillable since the Moira was playing in cover so I couldnt shoot her and the rein was getting healed constantly and no one was shooting the shield except me. So whats the right play do I pressure the Rein on point or do I try to poke or kill the backline?

Question or Discussion How to use Baptist ult?

As support goes, I was initially a Ana main but I recently decided to have all support to atleast level 12 for the emote.

But anyway, I feel like I don't understand how to get value with Bap ult. I either place it so far back that the enemies can simply hide during the ult or I place it to a more aggressive position so they can't escape but then the enemy tank just walks over me and deny the window.

So I don't know. Maybe the first option is actually good in the sense that, if it makes the enemies back off it already provides some value but idk I feel like I should atleast get kills with it.

Question or Discussion Can’t escape Silver Comp Hell

Upvotes

I only queue support in competitive. Placed Silver 2, rose up to Silver 1, then a massive freefall down to Silver 4. Really not sure what to do about this. I mainly play Moira, Zen, and flex between Kiriko and Liveweaver when needed. I had some success when I read that in Silver, you shouldn’t be healbotting + kills means no need to heal. But it seems like whatever I do my team always loses, be it closely lost matches or utter steamrolls.

Any advice for a struggling support main who’s tearing their hair out??

Question or Discussion new to the game, need help with vendetta

Upvotes

i started playing a week ago and i just fell in love with vendetta, i cannot stress how much fun it is to play vendetta, but god damn is she a hit or miss, i either go negative or get play of the game, i just want to finish winning 50 games so i can play comp but I'm struggling, i played 40 games with her and won 24 so a 58% win percentage, I'll summarize my personal struggles with her

-if the enemy team doesn't have any strays (people away from each other) i just go negative because the moment i dive even with my tank i get melted in 3 seconds

-having to stand infront of healers to get healed, i would have to stand inches infront of a healer to get healed sometimes, especially if it's an ana, hell it happened a couple of times where they'd intentionally ignore me even if I'm standing close to them

-having to basically sit it out if the enemy team is walking with each other, if i go for the healers i get obliterated by the dps and or tank, if i go for the dps i can't out damage 2 healers and again I'd just get obliterated by multiple people focusing on me

i genuinely feel like I'm throwing games because i play vendetta when the enemy team are not miles away from each other, and if i don't want to go negative i just sit it out and wait for an opportunity basically making my team have 1 DPS.

as for choosing another DPS, none of them invoke the slightest emotion in me, i like playing most tanks and playing healers like lifeweaver or baptiste, but vendetta is my bread and butter, HELP ME PLEASE

VOD Review Request TANK MAINS PLEASE HELP IF YOU HAVE THE TIME

Came back to OW comp after 4 year break and decided to play tank. Would love to get some feedback on what can I improve on and there's alot since my predictions are Silver 3 which makes sense since I play with Gold 5 and struggle.

Some mental things about me as a player so maybe there's some flaws in me there:

  1. I do believe in counterswaping, but I don't think that's necessary (counterswaps gives you advantages not a win, especially in this low-rank) so I choose to mainly play Ramatra since he's a good tank but not that popular so he'll get banned, I have Sigma balls for if he gets banned.

  2. I love to go aggro in fights, all that pokky pokky sh!t is boring to me, that contributes to me feeding most likely 😕

  3. I turn off all chats, chat is just distracting white-noise to me that does more harm than help. What can a gold player write to me to suddenly impact me as a player in a match?

  4. I fight enemy tank as the last resort when I don't see any other potential targets (it's pointless tanks have so many damage mitigation tools)

Some gameplay mistakes I think I do and need to improve:

  1. I think I go in way to deep sometimes and just feed because I think that my teammates are connected to my brain and know what I'm gonna do (bad habit)

  2. When fights do happen scattered and they are more ,,chaotic" I just get lost af and don't know what to do.

  3. I don't check where my teammates are (probably my biggest mistake).

Here's a replay code of match I had in Colooseo: BY8RZH

I think I definitely lost us the game (shame Reaper played really well imo) during last fights we had the advantage but they just snowballed and I think I focused to much on Orisa and Echo, especially when she ulted I should have had just kept shooting Echo instead of going nemesis and blocked.

Here's a replay code of match I had in Circuit Royal: QQ90D5

There's alot going on here that is my f@ck up but I don't even know where to start, I think overall I just went to ham on defense especially and just feed my ass off.

Would like to see your insights on what you should think I could improve on, go as hard on me as if I was G4H since I do like to blame my teamates for not following up on my dumb ass engages 😄 (not in chat of course but verbaly off mic).

Question or Discussion Instead of testing out 6v6 role queue, they should look into match quality

Hi, my name is Cliffus Jiggrin (pronounced Jig Green) and I've been playing OW since 2017 peaking low masters if that even means anything. I am from a small country so please pardon my English if stuff is many confusing.

I have mixed opinions on both 5v5 and 6v6. I like 6v6 because it lets me play with more friends and I like 5v5 because I feel like there is more balance to individual and team play.

I'm here because I feel like instead of looking at what 6v6 can do now, they should look into the problems with the match quality. Because I can only speak for myself, I don't mind a longer queue if it equivalents to better, more equal match between the both teams.

Ever since this year, there have been so many complaints about match quality, team quality, etc and while maybe win rate is around the same. But, there are a lot more stomps now compared to before especially in ranked. Currently, playing OW is like waiting in line at a restaurant for 10-20 minutes only to find that they serve Taco Bell.

I am not saying that the match making is rigged, I am saying that regardless of win or loss, it's not producing as many enjoyable matches as it used to.

I will use myself as an example- I stopped playing in 2022 and return this year. When I played ranked as DPS for first time in about 4 years, I got into platinum somehow despite being bottom in both damage done and eliminations. I have not been past platinum since 2018 ... LOL

Now, if I queue DPS, I basically ruin the game because I should realistically be starting in low silver. And I'm not enjoying it because I'm not pulling my own weight and no one in the game is enjoying it either because there is a clear gap in player quality.

Pretty much every game can be determined by the first 2 minutes. Every match, there is at least one player in the game who you know does not belong there.

and I think the game also has other frustrating problems like

If you have a support duo containing 2 of mercy moira or LW, good luck doing anything except getting healed and saved since they lack offense utility.

If you have double hit scan that only force main, you will struggle even making the first choke vs their shield.

For tanks, there is a lot to say but I feel that in metal ranks, if your tank is losing the tank battle or dying, they will almost always switch to Orisa, Mauga or Hog and instead focus on their own self preservation instead of looking to create space. And in turn, only serve to feed ult charge to them.

and I think that lower tier aggravate towards Escort/Hybrid maps makes these problems even more noteworthy. Since those maps are either a living hell where you drag multiple OTs like you're locked down in Taco Bell or a full hold on point 1. Either of them are just not fun experiences.

So even if 6v6 does increase queue speed times at which people get into a match, does it really solve anything? Bad synergy will still be there and so will the poor enjoyableness of matches.

VOD Review Request Should I avoid playing competitive until I get better?

I felt like I'd been doing well enough at tank in regular quick play, so I've been trying to get my placement matches in competitive. Got flamed for being bad the last few games I played, figured I might as well share the most recent ones. I mainly play Hazard and Domina, occasionally Orisa.

B5MW00

YJZZVD

I know I did absolutely dogshit and did basically no damage, but I was struggling against both teams and by the second round of the second game, I was getting really frustrated. Enemy team was making fun of me for swapping heroes, but the only reason I did was because I thought there was too much damage coming out for me to be playing a dive tank, so I switched to a shield tank and somehow did even worse. I'm not sure what I could have done here, I was also trying to handle the Reaper that kept sneaking up and harassing us and failed at that too.

I don't know, should I just go back to quick play until I figure this out? I know it doesn't look like it from the gameplay but I was genuinely trying and just started feeling discouraged because it seemed like no matter what I did, I died.

VOD Review Request Silver rank DPS vod review request

Hi y'all! I'm requesting these vod reviews to receive tips outside of what I already know (or think to know haha), to cover my blind spots. I'm playing Shion and Ashe. Especially on Ashe, aim is obviously important 🙏🏻 But other than that, I'd love to hear about any negative patterns I might have (in general or character-specific), thinking about positioning. For example I can get too greedy, trying to get a kill and it backfires. I'm wondering, whether I should put more emphasis on disengaging earlier or for now getting mechanically better at the game. Thank you!

Codes:

Shion - N6WXDW & OHPMV

Ashe - KXB749 & Q6RWNV

VOD Review Request Pointers and Tips appreciated

Hi there. I am a bronze ranked player who knows he isn't necessarily good but definitely wants to improve. Lately I'm losing constantly and I'm really curious about what I can do to improve. I almost exclusively play Mizuki and really enjoy the hero, but so many losses really has me questioning myself. I was hoping someone could take a look at my most recent game and offer some tips on what I can do to improve/help the team win. Should also mention that I solo queue.

The code is YGK6C5 and my battle tag is TheAlphaEwok

Thank you

Description of the match / things you want reviewed:
Timestamps will be deaths, and I will analyze what I did wrong.

Oasis
I had a hard time matching my tanks aggression, I think that it went better when he was on doom. Much harder to react to ball. Even though we won second point, their team felt much better.

1:53 - Greed on the cass and die, thought that the ball would match me
3:52 - Try to create space and push to my ball, get caught
4:10 - Should've dashed instead of jump peaked
6:33 - Thought my Doom was backing me up, since I saw that he jumped in, so didnt dissengage.
12:02 - Tried to predict the Moira fade in my ult, she stayed still and killed me instead.
13:12 - Saw rein creating space from his backline, so saw it as an oppurtunity to jump in.

Lijang tower
I had an eaiser time matching our doom, everyone in the team kinda pulled their weight as well.

1:04 - Gets griefed by the table and put in the wrong bike animation, think I couldve killed him otherwise. Maybe Should've retread towards the health pack instead of going in the direction of enemy team spawn.
6:33 - Tunnel vision on mercy and didn't pay attention to mauga.

Junkertown
This game was weird, as it was p5-d4 with me as the lowest ranked in the game. Our tank was d5 with our whole team mid-low plat. I kinda felt like we were on different wavelengths when it came to aggression and staggered too much.

1:42 - Too late on the dive, I took really long to decide if I wanted to dive with doom.
4:43 - Enemy team cleaning up from won teamfight. I think I played this team fight alright. One thing I regret is not ulting their ulting emre at the start of the fight, but I wasnt sure where he would come from.
5:25 - Greed on the ram, last ditch effort as my team is dead.
6:01 - Kiri shoots into deflecting genji, not on me.
7:02 - Bad ult from me, I thought that my doom wouldnt have time to come back (Which he does 1 second later).
9:02 - Die from trying to match my doom
10 - No comment
10:26 - Skill issue to miss the illiari there.
13:52 - Mentally lost already.

Neon junction
Really close match, just tried to play my best gameplay throughout. MVP:s where defenitely enemy cass.

3:31 - Really bad timing to get caught in mauga ult, I dont even realize.
3:56 - Tried my best to dissengage, should not have jumped out of the window there and played more passively.
4:26 - Should have found natural cover.
5:15 - Tried to help my ana
6:25 - Did not realize I was that low health
7:06 - Whiffed on the tracer this entire team fight, skill issue
9:15 - Should have dissengaged better when our tank died, or gone on hard flank.
10:46 - Shoulve dashed towards my team and not enemy team
12:42 - Unfortunate that my ram dies almost instantly, not sure what couldve been played differently
14:10 - Bad positioning, getting caught in crossfire
15:10 - Tries to secure a trade after tank died, once again ram gets melted.
15:38 - Bad positioning, not sure if enemy shion wouldve died if not for the im field.
16:18 - Out of position
16:38 - Classical overtime stalling
18:22 - I dont think this death was bad, as we secured a trade
18:52 - Should have dissengaged faster when our tank died.

Question or Discussion Feedback Loops for Map synergy, Team synergy or Counterpicks?

Pre-Disclaimer

This sub doesn't allow reposts, so I copied the contents from my original one in the competitive sub. I figured that this sub might be more fitting for this kind of discussion.

Disclaimer

To get this out of the way, yes the most fundamental aspect of picking or swapping to heroes is how well you can play them.

For the sake of argument, we assume that everyone is playing heroes they can play comfortably well given their skill rating.

Drafting and banning can be broken down into three aspects:

Map synergy: How much value can individual heroes get on a specific map geometry.

Team synergy: How heroes complement and strengthen each other.

Counter picks: How much do heroes or combinations of them deny opposing ones.

I think online discussions (and yapping in-game) seem to focus a lot on that last aspect and very little on the first two. But my intuition is that above, they are roughly ordered in terms of importance (with caveats of course).

If that's generally correct, then how does this discrepancy emerge? Why do people feel counter picking is more important than synergies, or worse: the only important aspect of picking a hero?

Possible surface level reasons might include:

  • Counter picking feels like it has more immediate impact. Especially heroes that can be "hard-countered".

  • The advantage of team synergy is subtle and often not recognized as such.

  • Map synergy is often felt less in most ranks, because the community play style is one dimensional.

What about feedback loops?

Perhaps the game doesn't teach players well enough how much the synergy aspects matter and it's not necessarily the fault of the players alone.

When you get counter picked, the game gives you very direct feedback in the sense that you simply have a much harder time to kill the other player than they have to kill you and vice versa.

When your team synergy is good, how does the game tell you that?

A player might just feel like "finally I have a good team" or "I'm playing very well today", without recognizing that their composition makes the game much easier to play.

But none of those players are any different in skill than last match, where they had a Micky Mouse composition that was much harder to do well with.

And do players even know or get any feedback and useful stats on how their hero picks do on certain maps?

Question or Discussion Potentially hot take: Overwatch feels so much better to play when teamwork isn't the main priority.

Upvotes

After recently reaching GM and climbing more, I've been having so much more fun in high GM-Champ lobbies than in Masters-GM lobbies, even if it's harder. Both teams almost always consist of Doom, Hazard, Tracer, Genji, Freja, Echo, and some other high mobility heroes.

As a support player in 5v5, my team almost always does their own thing in different corners of the map, which lets me do the same since I usually play JPC or Mizuki. After any of us get kills or are forced to retreat, we group up momentarily to stabilize and then go right back in. This feels so much better than coordinating attacks as a team or stacking cart with a low mobility tank. I think it feels better because the game feels so much faster and like there's a lot more going on, which is the main reason I prefer 6v6 over 5v5.

Anyone else in similar elo feel the same?

Question or Discussion How do I deal with flying comps as tank?

Hey guys, recently had this brutal game where the enemy team had ball, pharah, echo and mercy on Ilios Well.

I played Winston, trying to zap someone when they had to land and then following them into the sky as well as Orisa to try and sustain and shoot them. But it was a tough loss and I still couldn't think of what the best way to counter them would be? Is this a job for DPS hitscan to deal with? As tank I felt like I couldn't do anything at all.

I struggle especiallly to deal with Phara + Mercy so would appreciate any tips and advice on how to specifically deal with that too!

Thanks!

Guide Taking off-angles on support will make you 95%+ better than other supports.

Something I've noticed after coaching many support players is that they refuse to take off-angles. It seems like most support players up until about GM believe that it's the job of the DPS and tank to control and take space. Something I've recently been doing is showing support players the POVs of their DPS to show the importance of taking angles. I frequently see games being lost because supports are not helping their DPS on off-angles and instead are sitting in the back with their other support. I promise you if you take an angle and do damage, you will be better off than 95%+ of supports.

Edit: Meant to say better than 95%+ of support players.

Question or Discussion How does a team counter mercy+ideal map hitscan if the tank is on sig/domina/rein?

I really struggle with games where the enemy team has a mercy pocket hitscan since they can easily mark the other support and peel and it feels like theres no easy way to go on them with a lack of tank pressure?

What do i do in the midfight as genji/tracer

This is in high gm low champ as just a general question of what other players try or think of how to approach the situation

I feel like its just an instant gg if my tank is on them so why is it NOT an instant gg and what am i missing

Also random side comment, does anyone feel like there is rank inflation? A season back i was just hardstuck gm5 but now i can just semi-easily play in gm3-champ5 lobbies with no difference in skill or effort.

I am an Ashe main at heart - borderline otp. I am here seeking guidance from all you special people. Please don't hold back! What I would love from this are some things (obvious to you guys) that I can focus my time on and practice. I have peaked M3 but currently in lower lobbies due to experimenting with other heros.

Question or Discussion How do I counter "shredder teams"

New overwatch player here. I've been running into a lot of teams I called "shredder teams". Y'know teams that's team comp is full of high damage characters that together shred your health the minute you show your face. I need some advice on how to counter these types of team comps real bad. It's fucking me up and I don't know how to counter them.

Question or Discussion 6v6 Comp Open Queue vs 5v5 Role Queue

This is probably a super silly post. I have around ~100 hours in the game mainly playing Quick Plays and around ~12 hours playing comp (mainly 6v6).

I main support and mostly just pick Moira and I placed in Plat 5 (currently Plat 4). Imo I have pretty bad game sense and map knowledge overall but somehow spamming heals and dealing an okayish amount of damage helps my team win (usually). I tried the 5v5 role queue as support a couple of times but never finished my placements, I feel like 6v6 is much easier in comparison. Is role queue a better way to actually improve game sense or does it make sense to keep going for the open queue? Which game mode should I spend more time on?

Question or Discussion Relearning OW from scratch after a 4-year break: How do you catch up?

I'm giving overwatch a 2nd or 3rd chance (last time I played was 2022), I know a lot has changed so how tf do I learn everything basically from scratch (other than just play the game and git gud)?

For some background, I mainly play support or tank and I used to main Zen and Lucio, or Zarya and Dva.

I'm mainly looking to get to know what every hero does (both to counter them or play as team if the team needs), I can deal with the rest pretty much on my own

VOD Review Request Shion low gm. Code: 74N7TB

Hi everyone,

I’m a low GM DPS Shion one trick player looking to improve and would really appreciate it if a high GM or Champion player could review my Shion gameplay.
I’m mainly looking for things I’m missing, mistakes I’m not noticing, and areas where I could improve to climb further. Even small details about positioning, cooldown usage, target priority, or decision-making would be incredibly helpful.

If you leave feedback, could you please mention your current rank so I have some context for the advice?

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate anyone taking the time to help.

Question or Discussion It's my teammates, and I'm tired of pretending it's not.

High gold/low plat here. Now, I'll be the first to admit that I am not some amazing player—I am in gold/plat, after all. I have definitely made my fair share of stupid mistakes, and no doubt there are things I can improve on, but, seriously, it feels like a majority of my games are with people who aren't even trying to do their best.

This is mostly felt when I'm playing tank: We'll be fighting around a chokepoint, I'll be sticking to corners and waiting for opportunities to push, and before that opportunity comes, someone will do something stupid that puts us down at least 1 person when the push does come. Our support will randomly stand in the open to get worthless pokes on the pocketed enemy tank and get picked off in the trade, our DPS will take the same flank route that's failed the last 4 times and die again. So then I either make the push with a disadvantage off the bat, or continue to contest the enemy tank for space, waste time, and wait for the next opportunity (where the same thing is bound to happen again!)

What's more, I know this can't just be my fault, because when I play a full-stack with my friends, even those who are around the same rank as me (low to high plat), we win more often than not. When I play duos as DPS with a friend that runs DPS or support (again, same rank, high gold), we win more often than not. And in almost every single one of those games, I either carry or do well enough that I'm at least not dragging the team down. There are exceptions, of course. I've had terrible games simply because I played terribly, but my God, nothing feels worse than being crippled for a whole game because your team simply cannot enable you to do your thing.

All of this has a point, though. I don't just want to rant. I genuinely want to know: What can I do in situations like these to enable my teammates? Not screaming at them over chat or voice, not telling them to switch to a character they don't want to play, but simply making the game easier and more manageable for them through my actions. When I have bad supports, I try to play more conservatively so they can focus on their own positioning and healing the squishies. When I have bad DPS, I try to play more aggressively so they don't have to secure as many picks. This works to some extent, but I find it's exponentially harder to make up for bad supports, and with two bad players of the same role, the game is basically a foregone conclusion.

I won't be posting replay codes; I'm asking, in a general sense, what are some things I can do to enable bad teammates without compromising my own priorities as a spacemaker and anchor/diver? Any advice is appreciated.

Recently, I asked for some help on how to play junkerqueen. After going through your comments and advice, I thought I would apply them and post a vod for those who would like to critique my gameplay and skills and give me more advice.

The vod itself was a close game on Kings Row. Normally, when I feel I’m doing bad on a certain tank, I’ll switch to a counter, however in this game I pushed through and play queen the entire time. Whether or that costed us the game, I don’t know, but regardless I think I did ok overall. I’m not really used to peeking in and out of cover. I play Dva Hazard and Mauga a lot just as reference.

Again, any advice and tips are good with me, even if you call me trash. Thanks anyways.

Question or Discussion Why does Zen have such a high win rate

At first I thought it was because he forces support players to play "correctly" and act as a 4th/5th DPS and not heal bot. Take angles. Relieve pressure by spamming enemy DPS off of their angles. Etc.

But he actually has a great win rate in GM/Champ as well. And across all regions.

Why? A lot of people seem to consider him as kinda weak right now or at least just "mid". He sees basically no OWCS play. Is it just because he isn't very "synergy" oriented and is basically the best solo queue ladder "carry" support you could ask for? Even then I thought the consensus currently was that he is too vulnerable to the hyper mobile dive threats that are popular right now (tracer/shion/genji).

I've even gotten hate pre-match for picking him not based on team comp or anything (I'd never make a tank suffer through having a Zen/Mercy backline) but just because there seems to be a vibe that he is "bad" right now at least in my ranks (gold/plat) despite his stats. Honestly there is a very similar thing going on with Brig/Junker Queen as well where they have very good win rate at most ranks right now but you will get asked to swap pre-match because they are "bad".
