PSA: Converting to new iOS app can be painless

PSA: Given that a ton of people will be changing to new app/PDM with the iOS app release coming, I wanted to share some steps for a painless conversion. Going to a new app/PDM is no big deal. See below. I will keep the linked site updated if anything needs to be updated.

https://randomt1tips.wordpress.com/omnipod-5-new-pdm-app/

This is is written with the conversion to the new iOS app in mind, but it is applicable for any time to replace or reset your PDM or controller app. This process is nothing to be concerned about and no reason to stress.

Omnipod 5 only learns one thing, Total Daily Insulin (TDI). That is it. Nothing else. You can follow a simple process to switch to a new Omnipod 5 controller (from here on, controller refers to the PDM or app on a phone) with no negative effects.

Copy all your settings (insulin to carb ratio, target, correct above, max basal rate, etc.) from your old controller to your new one, except your basal rate. This is assuming you are using automated mode. If you exclusively use manual mode, copy your basal rate(s) too. Just look at each setting on your old controller, and put that in on your new one.

Next we need to get your TDI. I prefer to use Glooko, but you may be able to find what you need on your controller. Glooko will default to showing over the last 2 weeks. You can shorten it to a 10 day period to mimic how Omnipod 5 calculates things or it is fine to leave it at 2 weeks.

In this case the TDI is 51.4 units.

https://imgur.com/a/jrtrHPh

Divide that number by 48. In this case, that is 1.07. You would put in 1.1 or 1.05 as your basal rate in your new controller. You will typically have to round up or down a tiny bit as it has to be a valid Omnipod 5 basal rate value. You might be thinking, why divide by 48? 51.4 is the TDI. You need to get that value to per hour for your basal. First, Omnipod 5 assumes a 50/50 split between basal and bolus, so you have to divide by 2 to get the basal amount. Next you divide by 24 to the per hour rate. Dividing by 48 is just a shortcut.

Omnipod 5 uses the programmed basal as the initial basal rate. Putting this value in will allow it to pick up right where it left off with the old controller. The adaptive basal process will start with the second pod.

Now to address the concerns and questions that will inevitably pop up when this process starts.

“Something has changed with the algorithm. My numbers have never been this good/bad or low/high!”

Nothing changed with the algorithm. It is the same if you are on the PDM, Android app, or iOS app.

“No!! I will lose everything it has learned!!”

It only learns TDI. That is it.

“It will take X pods or X days to learn you after the change.”

Again, it only learns TDI. If you follow this process, there is no reason for you to have any issues.

I'm live with the Omnipod 5 & Libre 3 plus

Just got started yesterday with the Omnipod 5 and Libre 3 plus after having the intro kit for 2 weeks. I am familiar with Omnipod 5 because my son uses it with the G7 but still needed to go through training. I have never had a pump before myself as I was waiting for Libre 3 and 100 target. I was able to get my physician to order through ASNP. when my son got on the omnipod + G7 we had to go through ASPN as well, so I knew about the process. So far it is going ok - though I think I need to change a setting but will probably wait for my 3rd pod to do so as I am running higher than I would like. Thought I would just post in case others had questions about this pairing.

Omnipod Loading Screen Loop

I'm sure this has been asked before. But has anyone been able to fix their PDM when it's stuck in a loop cy ling through the loading screen? I just had to do an update on mine and now it won't start up. I don't want to do a factory reset because I don't remember all my settings for correction factor, ratio etc. Any way of fixing it without completely resetting it? I've tried everything I can think of.

Controller Omnipod controller case/screen protectors?

Hi all! Looking for suggestions on screen protectors for the omnipod 5 controller. Is there a specific phone model glass screen protector that anyone has used that fits?

Dropped my last one and the screen cracked, hoping to avoid that again lol

Also suggestions on cases would be helpful! Thanks!

Advice Extra pods

Leaving the omnipod behind because of a severe adhesive allergy, but i still have extra pods, whats the best way to get them to where theyre needed?

For context: libre 2+ compatible

And they all fell off

so I tried tegaderm today to see if it might help with adhesive issues I've been having (I know it's for tunneling but I'm getting to my wits end).

put skin tac on the tegaderm, then the omnipod, then the overlay. a one year old managed to peel it off (usually with skin tac I don't have that issue so I think it was badly sticking to begin with).

I'm waiting on a few pods in the mail that were replacements but it's back to the tslim for now for me I guess.

Rant Woke up annoyed.

Well, i dont know if in the middle of the night i squished my
Pod but i woke up to my sugars being over 150 (my cgm said 180s but fingers tick said 176 fasting). I then smelled insulin looked at my pod and saw it was leaking. Of course i also felt nauseated so i assumed my sugar was like 300. Thankfully i put a new pod on and took some medicine for the nausea. But I wish it’d alert you when there’s a leak. I could have changed it in the middle of the night.

Connection Issues In Limited Mode almost all the time

More of a rang because i’m gonna scream.

Tried to talk to my nurse AND insulet and got the same answer. i’m actively in Limited mode or often then i’m in full automated mode and my GOD is it frustrating. Because it’s not just 20 minutes here or there. It’s for hours at a time. But apparently it’s nothing to worry about ??

Like i said too, every hour i’m in limited, my pump audibly goes off and it’s frustrating.

Supplies Finally happened to me

I hadn't had any pods that were part of the recall, but I just got my monthly supply delivered from the pharmacy today (10 days late), and both boxes are on the recall list. How in the world is the pharmacy still sending out recalled pods? I would get it if this was around the time the recall was announced, but it's been some time. They really need to check their supply before they go sending it to patients.

Tips & Tricks Omnipod cover??

So my biggest issue with having the omnipod is that unfortunately I’m clumsy af, and will hit a doorway or a desk or simply fall and my pod will often take the brunt of the injury by usually getting hit off of me. Does anyone have any suggestions or stuff they use to cover the pod that’s reusable and prevents it from ripping off?

Advice Left Arm Terrible Compared to Right?

I've noticed that for the second time, when I have a pod on my left arm, it HATES insulin. I'm constantly high! It's so ridiculous! I change sites and rotate religiously, and have no lumps, scar tissue, etc. I've also only been using the Omnipod again for like 2-3 months maximum, so there's no way a handful of pods on the left side could be causing this issue.

Does anyone else have this issue? I'm not sure what to do because I can only use arm and stomach and rotate between both sides. But my CGM is currently on my left side so I can't use my right side (right side is getting a break rn). What am I supposed to do? 😭😭

Libre 2 plus no longer supported?

Hi everyone
I tried to fill my g6/libre 2 plus omnipod rx and was told by the pharmacy that it was discontinued.
When I called omnipod they said I would have to be prescribed “L2+L3 omnipods” but whenever I try to look this up on my insurances list of covered meds or on goodrx it doesn’t exist. My endo also doesn’t seem to know what to prescribe me other than a libre 3 plus + compatible pods which isn’t covered and I can’t afford on goodrx.

I’m guessing I will have to go back to MDI if no solution is found but I’m just wondering why omnipod is still claiming to support libre 2 plus when that rx doesn’t seem to exist

App Issues & Questions Help!

Hello! My app randomly dumped all of my settings. AAARGH! I do not know my settings, so I reached out to Omnipod, and they recommended I contact my doctor. My endo is not very responsive. Is there anywhere else I can obtain that data besides from my endo? I am in a pickle here! TIA for any advice.

Controller Dexcom not connecting to PDM

I have a physical PDM (because I’m cool and always forget to charge my phone). Due to Dexcom ending the G6, I have swapped to the G7 against my will.
My issue is that I cannot get my PDM to connect to my Dexcom for the life of me. This is the second cgm to not connect.
Do I need to initiate the sensor on my PDM? Help.

Omnipod for 3yo

Hello,

I’m surprised I’m not finding more information on this but individually people have reported these issues. Omnipod works horribly for our toddler, completely different absorption or none at all with every sight change. Works for a day and unpredictably, has anyone found the other pumps work better for such issues?

ACTXA Core smart ring

Just heard about this smart ring that reads blood sugar! Would be cool if it could eventually link with omnipod and I could get rid of Dexcom!

r/Omnipod 2d ago

Advice How do you know if blood sugar increasing is due to leakage, faulty pos or insulin not being absorbed properly?

My blood sugar has gone up from 120 to 210 steadily since I put a new pod on. I've been correcting and it has been delivering auto basal amounts. Why can't it just keep me where I need to be?

Is there a good way to know why this could be happening? Is it the pod, or is it just me and it can't cope with my body? I've had nothing to eat since a few hours before even putting the new pod in.

Omnipod coverage issues with UHC

Hey everyone. So I recently changed jobs and got flipped from anthem to United healthcare. My insurance just went live, but my pods are hardly covered at all now with UHC. Their prescription site, Optum rx, is giving me a quote of $1399.90 “with” my insurance. It was about $350 under anthem. My libre 2 plus sensors are much more expensive as well now (went from about $110 to $340).
I tried sending my prescriptions to Amazon pharmacy. The sensors dropped in price, but no such luck on my pods.

I’m not quite sure what to do. If anyone else has been in this situation, does calling them generally work?

Completely filled with anxiety right now so would love to hear any success stories

Discussion PDM CGM reading question…

I noticed it’s much slower for the PDM to update my readings compared to when I used the freestyle libre app that updated every minute

Is this naturally how it’s meant to be? Because it’s definitely a lot slower in updating what my sugar level is

Anything I can do?
