My friend gifted me this goat skull from her dads goat ranch, it was mostly free of flesh apart from a small spot on the back of the skull. We left it outside in the flowerbed for like over a year. It’s been through two different snows, and sooo many different rain storms but there is still this small orange path on the back of the skull. Is it flesh? Or is it a part of the bone? Is it safe to display like this? Ideally I would like to get it off to be safe but apart from soaking it and leaving it out longer I’m not sure what to do.

Hi all! I’m very new to this side of the community. I’ve always loved it all but I have never sought bones. The creek in my backyard has been extremely dry lately and my tiny furry noodle stumbled across a deer skull. It was upside down but when I picked it up I could not believe the coloring! It’s beautiful! I have never seen anything like it in nature before. Did a little research and was asked from my bot if I found the lower jaw bones since they should be nearby. I went back out and located both! and a ton of other pieces! Not positive what all the bones are. All of the pieces have beautiful marble staining! I have them soaking in warm dawn water at the moment and later I’m going to gently clean them up. I do know not to put them in direct sun to avoid cracking. I haven’t been able to find anything similar to the markings I’ve found online for inspiration on what could possibly be done to showcase this beautiful skull. I did see some people mount with the lower jaws in place but I think they would make beautiful pieces separately. I also read that a lot of people like to make jewelry out of the ribs and such. Or matching pieces. I have zero idea where I would even start with getting these pieces some new homes to become more beautiful 💚 could you all possibly give me some information on this please? Are there people that would be interested in some of these? I will happily take more intricate pictures once cleaned up.

Beware of ordering from The Wunderkammer Olde Curiosities Shoppe in PA!!!

I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else before they decide to order from this shop. On May 27, I placed an order for two embalming bottles. The order was accepted, my payment was processed, and then, nothing. Weeks went by without any shipping confirmation, tracking number, update on my order, or a response to my inquiries.

I reached out many times through the contact methods on their site and social media and received no response, even with direct phone calls. After getting nowhere, I started looking at some reviews from other customers and was shocked to see that several people are describing very similar experiences, orders taking weeks, poor communication, or having to repeatedly reach out just to get an update, etc. So at this point, I tried contacting them publicly by commenting on their Facebook page and Google. Only after doing that did I finally receive a response, the response I got asked me to confirm my shipping address “to ensure it went to the right location.” Which immediately confused me because I have never received any shipping confirmation or tracking information, so as far as I know, the order has never even been shipped, so im not sure what they are referring to. I confirmed my shipping address immediately and they liked the message. Now, Im waiting again for an answer to the questions I’ve been asking.

If there was a supply issue or anything else, I would have appreciated a simple email explaining the situation. But being left to reach out across literally every single platform just to get a vague response is incredibly frustrating. To make matters worse, while commenting on their Facebook page for now a second time, I noticed 2 more customers were also commenting that they hadn’t received their items either, which obviously shows this isn’t an isolated issue.

I’m posting this because I know many people in the oddities community purchase items from small business shops, and communication is important when you’re trusting someone with your money. I’d personally be cautious about ordering from them based on my experience and several others.

I got a shadow boxed bat today at the reptile expo but it is only labeled as “Small Tropical Bat”. I am looking for help identifying the type of bat it is? The second photo is a picture for comparison, the bat on the top/left of the photo is a Kerivoula Picta also known as a Painted Bat or Butterfly Bat.

I wanted to find a clear fairy shaped jar to put them in to go on my oddities shelf, but I can’t seem to find any. If you have any fun ideas of how I can display them, I’d love to hear them!
