Hey guys, hoping someone with BGP or ISP routing experience can point me in the right direction.

Up until a few weeks ago, I was getting a perfect 17–19ms ping. The routing was going directly across the Strait of Gibraltar to Madrid. But out of nowhere, my ISP messed with their BGP tables and my latency permanently jumped to 29ms.

I ran tracert and PingPlotter, and it turns out my ISP is now dumping all traffic bound into Marseille, France, before routing it back down to Spain. This is happening 24/7, so it's a permanent route change on their end, not just peak-hour congestion.

What I've tried so far:

VPS using AWS & Azure
Cloudflare WARP enpoints
using ipv6

but still no luck all of them travel till Marseille France, then come back to Madrid where the game server is then come to me.

any method actually be able to bypass , i"m leaving switching ISP to last resort cue its a bit complicated.

I was mid game today when i received this error. So far the troubleshooting i’ve done is

Unplug/plug back in
Use a new ethernet cable
Check the ethernet port/cable with an xbox (it connected to the internet)
Restarted the ethernet network adapter
Restarted network/modem
Restarted PC
Shut down PC, unplugged, held power button for 30 seconds
Performed network reset

And nothing has fixed it. This leads me to believe my motherboard ethernet port just randomly fried?

On hardware and connection properties it says the following
Name: ethernet
Description: killer e3100g 2.5 gigabit ethernet controller
Status: non operational
Maximum transmission unit: 1500
Ipv4,v6, and dns servers all have an address
Connectivity: disconnected.

Is there anything more to do that can rule out whether or not its my motherboard is fucked?

So I am from Egypt and there is no unlimited internet here and the prices are extraordinarily high, so most people say that you can make a vps and and a config and connect to it and or make ssh or v2ray accs from any provider and connect to them however I tried the ssh method didn't work for me, so can someone please explain to me how that works so I can make all of that myself, and what's the difference between using a bug host and connecting to vps?

i have ftth and i recently havent been satisfied with the perfomance of the router. i come to discover what is onu/ont and i think what i have is a onu/router in 1. this setup is at least 6 years old. so i decided to buy a router (tp link BE230) and use it as a bridgemode via lan cable.

here is my issue: i dont really know what do i need to set uo bridgemode. some research showed me needing pppoe and pppoe password? (i dont really dont know what that does) but i have found it on the portal except the password is hidden. my main question is is bridgemode needed ? do i need pppoe thing? my router arrives tmw and i would like to know some basic stuff to understand how to set it up.

is this a good upgrade? my current device is HS8546V

I'm new to networking and still early in the research phase. I'm trying to parse the vendor marketing and understand where the real value begins by hearing from people who've actually deployed it.

At what point does SD-WAN genuinely become worthwhile, rather than just enterprise terminology for functionality that smaller businesses can achieve in other ways? Is the tipping point driven by the number of sites, unreliable internet connections, security requirements, or the time spent managing VPNs?

i get around 350mbps speed from my phone

Thru out my life this been happening, every time someone opens the front door, it just loses connection for a min or 2 and goes back on, I asked my parents about it and they also said this been happing way before me and they haven’t stored a cameras to the door. We only hooked up a ring like a year ago and it still goes off. Also my WiFi router is not close to the door it’s across the house and we asked are internet provider about it and they don’t know what going on. Do Y’all have any information why this happens?

Posting to ask 'cause I haven't set up a real switch since the days of 10baseT, and those were .... different. Thus this likely will be an extremely basic question for the subreddit.

I have a home network. Fiber modem which goes to my router. Router has a few ports on it, several 2.5 gig and one 10 gig.

I'd like to add an unmanaged switch to the 10 gig port (PoE switch - future expansion stuff).

I will have three or four devices on the switch that I have already - pre-switch - set up with static IPs (192.168.1.XXX)

When I install the switch, I am assuming that the switch has its own IP that'll be set via DHCP from the router.

In that case, the computers whereby I've set up static IPs....do I leave those settings? Change them? Or just go back to the computers being given an IP?

And...since I use a couple of those computers as servers both in-house and remotely, would I set up packet forwarding from the router-->switch (and assume the switch will 'figure it out' as to where the packets need to go?)

I'm attempting to make this as painless as possible before I start unplugging/plugging in cables and finding out that routing to<-->from computers doesn't work, and of course to also save what little hair I have left from being pulled out.

This is for a low-end simple home network, nothing fancy beyond what is described, hence I don't believe I need more than the switch, a few cables and a holding of the breath.

I appreciate any/all feedback that is shared.

EDIT #2 : Unmanaged L2 switch was exactly what I needed. This resolved all of my pertinent issues. My thanks to those who posted!

So basically, I have an old Cisco Switch (Cisco Catalyst WS-C2960-8TC-L --- an 8-port managed switch) and i am trying to program/configure it via a RJ45-to-USB Console cable (FTDI chipset --- RS-232C).

But whenever i connect to the Switch over PuTTY or Tera Term, I get a garbled output... (as seen in image)

At first i searched the internet for solutions, most of them said the baud is the issue... I check almost all values: 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, 62000, 64000, 57600, 115200, 102000, etc.. still the same isssue for higher values 57600 and above it starts repeating random letters indefinately...

Then i thought maybe it is the configuration problem like using `7e1` instead of `8n1` but i tried all combinations of this as well... still didn't work... i messed around with flow control setting as well but that didn't work either... (flow control setting in above image is `none`)

I have even reset the switch 2-3 times still the same issue.... tried changing the character encoding as well, still the same issue...

Now, i am wondering if the switch is faulty maybe... or the wire has wrong pin outs `(1=CTS, 2=DSR, 3=RXD, 4=GND, 5=GND, 6=TXD, 7=DTR, 8=RTS)`. or maybe the switch is too old (September 17, 2007)

Can someone please help me fix this issue... I can provide additional info/screenshots... if needed...

btw... I don't have much of Networking experience... consider me a beginner...

every 3-4/4-5 mins my mobile data loses connection for 30 secs or a min and then comes back for another 3-4/4-5 mins before losing connection again and this keeps on repeating. (i dont know the specifics of duration this is js estimated)

i use android phone btw and ive checked my plan there is no issue with expiry of data plan. its 5G unlimited that expires april 2027.

its annoying while gaming and watching long form yt vids. any solutions? or is it just the server issue? happening since last 13 hours btw.

i tried restarting phone, turning on flight mode for some time and turning off to probably fix any network glitches but still didnt work

I can get the internet from my college to my laptop through a cable directly,now i wanted to use that internet to play games on my mobile through laptop hotspot but i get random lag and jitter even though the internet speed good enough

I've noticed a lot of discussions out there about post-quantum migration often happening like it s only a library replacement issue lol. The truth is that when you look into the actual networks you’ll find lots of encrypted data going through everything from VPNs to sites. There s load balancers, appliances, proxies, old systems that noone can rewrite, private circuits, interconnects and etc. 

Sure the networklayer overlay approach looks like a good way for helping some traffic on certain paths that you get right. But it seems just like another risk of control-plane or middleware.

So where would it actually help? In case of remote access or site-to-site maybe?

Hi guys. I've had a problem with ethernet connection for the last 2 weeks. Im using a lenovo Legion and for 3 years i was working on wifi but recently bought ethernet cables. At first everything was right. One cable from the router to switch and from that 2 cables, 1 to PS5 and one to my laptop. For the first week everything was perfect and then it randomly discconected and said that its unplugged but every few seconds it said "identyifying connection" then again unplugged and its stuck in that loop. I did everything i could with cmd, device manager, uninnstalling ethernet card etc. resetting the router didn't work as well as changing ports on router. When im trying to solve problems with windows device it says that it can't identify DHCP server and i've tried changing it too. When i change ports on switch it just flashes a few times and goes black. Any advices guys?

Edit: I've changed the switch to one from tp-link and its the same

been helping a friend figure out internet options for a property about 45 minutes outside any major town. no cable, no fiber, and the phone signal is barely there. satellite seemed like the obvious answer but the latency has been a dealbreaker for her work calls.

someone in another thread mentioned fixed wireless as a middle ground so i started looking into it more. found wave1 while reading around, they seem to focus on wireless infrastructure for regional areas, which got me thinking about how much the options vary depending on where you actually are.

Currently have the Macbook Pro but i’m open to getting a new computer if it doesn’t go well. Talked to a few professors and they didn’t have the best attitude towards macs so i’m wondering what other people experiences are.
