MOD POST Lot's of new people!

Welcome all! Very thankful you chose to join us and post!

Please note that there are MEGATHREADS (giggle...because it's a needlepoint sub and thread?...you see? Look folks, I'm going to keep making that joke until someone laughs.) for getting help with your stitches and repairs.

Unfortunately, if we put everything in the main body of the sub the stitch requests drown out other requests.

If your post was removed, please just repost in the MEGATHREAD (gigglesnort) for help, you're not a bad person, just slightly off target.

Happy Stitching!

MOD POST Stitch Suggestions Mega Thread

Going to try and start a mega thread for stitch suggestions. Please post your requests for help with stitches here.

This will help us centralize your stitch requests into one place.

This is the first step in trying to help organize the sub.

Painted Needlepoint The 25 year Chicken journey is complete!

Post image
82 Upvotes

I purchased this painted canvas about 25 years ago after my husband, who is then an attorney for a large firm in New York City, was told during an annual review that his tenure with the firm would end, but that he should be like the chicken in the farm yard, who is always happy to see the farmer even on the day the farmer comes out with an ax.

I purchased the canvas from a shop owned by the magnificent Martha Shevett outside New Hope, Pennsylvania. Martha was an extraordinary artist from whom I learned so much over the years, particularly in color and texture.

I used cottons, silk, suede, gold thread, and of course, the silk ribbon. The stitch pattern was all Martha.

I began the canvas shortly after I bought it, but then life in the form of a child who liked to ride horses got in the way, as did work and, since 2019, caring for parents as they died. After my mother died in 2024, I pulled this canvas out of the closet and finally got it done.

Does anyone else start a project and then there’s too much jumping around and so you don’t pick up the project again until a year goes by and you decide, ok I need to finish this.
This was my first ever needlepoint project! And now I’m finally finished!!

Background help, frog or no?

Hi! I got an awesome Hearts of Pine canvas last week when I stopped into Mopsey Shop in Biddeford, ME. Highly recommend if you find yourself in Maine!

Anyway, I stitched the heart first, which I have no issues with. I then stitched the gold lines (using Fyre Werks). I couched them, thinking it would add some nice dimension. I found it slightly challenging. Moved onto the background and I am really not loving it. I might be being too picky, but it looks to me as though there are gaps in the background and it looks messier than I prefer. Could this be due to the gold line? I'm basket weaving the background with Essentials.

Any thoughts would be so appreciated! I am open to frogging the background. I am hoping to finish this into a bag charm! Thank you :)

Neck pain

Does anyone get neck pain from looking down and if so is there anything you do that helps? I feel like I can’t work as much as I’d like to on my projects because I get so sore!

Plum Stitchery Low Tide Series

Has anyone seen any of the canvases in stock anywhere? Specifically the Lobster Claw? Lead times are so crazy with preorders, but absolutely love the series and want to do some summer stitching!

Has this happened to anyone? Any suggestions? I’m on vacation this week and friends were gonna grab my finished stocking this morning. It was delivered at 7:30pm and stolen at 4:00am. See photo. Local PD difficult to get ahold of to file police report and have a friend looking around my house for discarded package. Suggestions welcome!

Copied canvas to finisher

I have a project I just finished stitching where I copied the canvas myself (I didn’t realize the issues with copying canvases at the time and don’t plan on doing it again 🤦‍♀️), and I was just wondering if sending it off to a finisher is frowned upon, especially if it’s copied from a fairly popular shop. Thanks!

A dreamy trip to Moominworld where I found many beautiful neeldework projects in the main Moomin house. The chair is done on Penelope canvas, not sure about the framed works. Has anyone been there?

Finishing How to finish in a perfect circle?

New to needlepoint and I traced around a circle but have created a very lopsided circle around the blueberry…realizing my mistake I have since purchased a template for circles. My question is should I undo all the yellow stitches and start over (I’m worried I’ll damage the canvas) or if when finishing this bad circle could become more even if the cookie is cut in a perfect circle? Any advice very welcome, thank you!

Teaching a group of kids?

Hi! I’m new to needlepoint and I volunteer at a grief camp for kids. I’m interested in teaching a small group (up to 10) of teen girls how to needlepoint. I did a cursory search for bulk beginner canvases and didn’t find much. Any suggestions on how to approach this on a budget and limited time?

Straw Silk Shadowlands Dupe Recs

Desperately searching for straw silk in shadowlands but have had no luck and refuse to pay $30 + shipping for one skein on eBay.

Does anyone have a good dupe recommendation or some in their stash they are willing to part with for a decent price? Ideally looking for 4-5 skeins but will take whatever I can get.

I will be eternally grateful!!!

Needlework by Jim

I ordered some canvases from them in April but haven’t received my order yet. I know that there is a shortage but I’ve been emailing them the past couple weeks and haven’t gotten a response about my order update. Anyone had/have this problem? The only email they have is info@needleworkbyjim . I would just like some response with a estimated timeline

Finishing HeatnBond for self finishing key fob?

I’m looking at using heatnbond ultra hold for quick no-sew finishing of a key fob (fuse the backing cotton strap to the finished needlepoint canvas).

Is this going to be decently long lasting? Or should I expect to use it in addition to sewing the webbing on?

Next project bc I’m a big bright shining star 🌟 gonna be a cushion for my vanity stool!

Any tips for needlepoint cushions? my plan is to stitch this, then add fabric around the perimeter, add batting/foam to the back, and staple gun to a thin piece of plywood cut to size for my vanity stool. I’d gladly welcome any insight from anyone who has used their needlepoint in upholstery before :)

Help Fix Blocking Mid Project?

Thumbnail

I just finished the background of my canvas and it is already pretty warped (I used a scroll frame). I plan on using a bunch of different speciality fibers for the birds. However, should I block it before starting the birds to make it easier/less stretching on the speciality fibers?

Has anyone ever blocked a canvas mid projects? Is there any issue with it?

New to Needlepoint Needlepoint Superstitions

I started needlepoint about two years ago, and a friend recently told me there are all these little superstitions in the needlepoint world. I had no idea there were so many, and honestly I find them so interesting!

So now I’m curious… what are your favorite needlepoint superstitions, traditions, or little “rules” you’ve heard over the years? Whether you believe them or not, I’d love to hear them! 🪡🧵

System 4 clamp sturdiness?

Hi! Looking to invest in a system 4 lap/table stand and I'm wondering from those who have it - how sturdy is the clamp attachment? I consistently work larger pieces on stretcher bars (14 x 14 in for example) and am wondering if it shakes or wobbles with the clamp + stretcher bars.

I've tried cheap alternatives from Amazon and they obviously haven't worked out😅can't stand that the canvas would wobble every time I pulled the needle through!

Insights + feedback appreciated!!
