Maybe not bamboozled but fucks sake. All my family lives in Nebraska, but I live in central Ohio. When gas went up in Ohio, I almost shed a tear. At one point in April/May it peaked at $4.99/gal but since it has been sitting between $3.20-$3.79 for regular unleaded (10% ethanol)
After the initial increase, people blamed the stark increase on it being a blue city in a red state. -which could be true because it seems like it is cheaper everywhere else by close to 20¢. After complaining to my mom about the prices she told me “well that’s why you should just move to Nebraska” blah blah blah
But that comment lead me to believe the gas situation was somehow better here. Boy was I wrong. On my way to the panhandle using Highway 20 it just got increasingly more expensive. Yeah I get that you’re in the middle of nowhere and stations are far and few but even in the sticks of Ohio gas is usually cheaper than Columbus - maybe comparable to cbus for the most secluded.
Upon entry of the state, I noticed that the super unleaded prices here are more expensive than regular at home. Like at one point I saw a station for $4.59/gal for regular and $3.99 for super and I was beginning to kick myself for not filling up in O’Neill thinking that might be what it is from there on lol.
When I got to my destination my grandma had asked how much gas was where I filled up and I told her it was $3.89 for super unleaded and how that was insane and she told me the price wasn’t bad ?! She asked how much it was in Columbus right now and I pulled up my app and showed her it was $3.42 FOR REGULAR UNLEADED. The cennex in her town is $4.10 for super.
like why is it soooo much more expensive here than it is there for worse quality?? I know we have more refineries near us than most of Nebraska but like two years ago, prices were pretty comparable between the two with Nebraska maybe costing 10¢ more per gallon. But for Nebraska to be more expensive than Illinois ??
I just don’t get how even along I-80 gas is $3.89 for super unleaded. The thought of paying that much for lesser like puts me in a spiral. And don’t even get me started on the cost of groceries here vs Ohio.
I thought our politicians hated Ohioans but damn at least our gas is cheaper and we don’t have to pay tax on groceries or take out.
TLDR; Nebraska is fucking you on gas prices.
