Question Best way(s) to support your LGS?

Long Islander here. Self explanatory title. I'm a long time gun enthusiast but a short time gun owner, and have only just recently had both the money and time to begin investing into firearms ownership.

Two shops near me have some really great and friendly staff who helped me pick out my first shotgun without breaking the bank (a Maverick 88) and generally have been nothing but good to me throughout the process. I also simply enjoy the shop experience, so I'm curious to know how I can do my part and hopefully become more of a regular.

I'm also curious to know if it's good or worth it to have the shop order guns in for you? With my Maverick for instance, they didn't have one in store but ordered one in on my behalf. Is this something they profit a ton directly from or is it roughly the same as just transferring it? What about ammo? And any advice on how to support shops without breaking the bank too (if possible) is welcome. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Legality / Laws Gunshops(Buffalo area)/custom builds legality

Hope y’all are well! I’m in the process of getting my semi auto permit but haven’t gotten it yet, does anyone know of any gunshops/\smiths in the Wny/Buffalo area that would build you a straight pull AR, something that once I get my semi auto permit I can take back to them and turn it into a semi auto AR? I don’t know what the legality of that is? Any ideas, or suggestions! I’d like to get some experience while saving some money ahead of getting the permit without having to go and buy a bolt action that can’t be changed and buying a separate rifle later; or if I did want to buy a bolt action now, like A Ruger American Gen II Bolt-Action just to gain a bit of experience and practice could I sell it to a gunshop down the line and recoup some of the money spent on it? Thanks everyone!!!

CCW Question Best 2nd CCW complementing the bodyguard 2.0?

I just got my BG 2.0 as my first CCW. I loved the form factor, feel, size and shoot-ability. I live in NY though and I want a 2nd pistol for colder climates, ideally a 9mm though 45 is not off the table (though i don't think its absolutely necessary to penetrate heavy winter garments given the 9mm is standard law enforcement and military issue).

I am tempted to buy a glock because NY is banning them next year but I know there are plenty of other great guns such as the p365 and shield plus out there. I prefer not having a huge firearm as my primary intention is home defense and CCW for the colder months, but understand it will be larger than the BG 2.0. The G19 is also tempting as it seems to be the textbook definition of a perfect handgun based on this subreddits affinity.

What gun would you pick and why to complement my BG? Thank you

Discussion Get ahead of NY and Viramontes v. Cook

Nothing is set in stone until the ruling is out but I think anyone in NY should be doing some leg work on getting ahead of what will most likely happen.

Just like Bruen, NY is almost guaranteed to have a response bill to anything favorable SCOTUS gives us. They will make the process of getting an evil rifle as difficult and expensive as the law will allow.

However because the state has to digest the ruling and make changes to any drafts it has, this will provide a window.

If you don't have your Semi auto permit, you want it now because if Viramontes v cook has a favorable ruling that system will become instantly clogged, likely for months.

Have some cash set aside and get ready to jump on that cool rifle you always wanted. Ban states may very well consume the majority of the stockpile of ar-15 rifles on the market for a while if all the ban states are freed up.

License / Permit Question Pistol license renewal and medication

Do the counties have access to your prescription records? If I miss a medication on the application, would they be able to see this? Currently take prescription for mild anxiety. My concern is if my doctor retires and the new one isn’t comfortable writing such a letter of clearance, how can I get this done. Please don’t tell me to find some psychiatrist who costs the equivalent of a small car purchase. It’s a yes or no box type question. If I accidentally write “no” are they able to verify my prescription history. Does Nassau county require HIPAA release?

Discussion Impact of Recent Supreme Court Cases

Very big news coming from SCOTUS this week. Wolfprd v. Lopez (about carrying in restaurants/bars other public places), US v. Hemani (drug users cannot be automatically classified as too dangerous to own a gun), and several on AR- restrictions and mag capacity caps are slated to continue this fall.

When will NYS release updates/comment on how these decisions will shape current policy?

I’m anticipating capacity restrictions to be lifted in the fall and possibly striking down of “assault features” on semi autos

This really is such a pain especially when the county over you can get it done same day. Make it make sense.

Splurged on a 226x Legion and now I’ve had six weeks to ponder my purchase and money spent. Really eats into the excitement.

NYC FFL in Buffalo, Temporary Storage/Locker, Non-resident NYC CCW

Hello All,

I have a non-resident NYC CCW and plan to carry my registered handgun in NYS.

My family would like to go through NYS to Ontario, Niagara Falls for a day trip and overnight stay, which is of course a sovereign country and border. Please read, I do not want to be confused with trying to smuggle or carry a gun into Canada lol.

My question, is about remaining lawful in aspects to NYS confines to a tee, but bypassing a unnecessary transfer from a safe storage perspective as I know a NY transfer won't be possible for me and requires shipment back to home state with additional fees and I'm down my EDC.

Are there any FFL recommendations in Buffalo area that have known storage lockers for rent or maybe services rendered that specifically do not trigger NYS transfer situation? Ideally, they are open Sunday drop off with my pick up Monday.

TIA

Question Trans friendly resources Buffalo

If you don't know, that's fine. If you're here to insist that nobody in the world cares who you are, you can just scroll down to the next post, because if that were true, I would be experiencing another dry summer in my beautiful constitutional carry home state, enjoying this heritage with a whole family, not sitting here in 86% humidity, struggling to break all those years of conditioning to fade into the background for safety to make enough connections here to get character references, so I can risk getting arrested for pissing to make one last trip to pick up my guns. I am so so tired of being begrudgingly tolerated as long as I keep my mouth shut. I'm tired of feeling like I'm in enemy territory. That's why people ask questions like this. (Yes I'm angry. You would be too)

Westchester County DA Press Release:

Sting Operation Recovers Over Two Dozen Illegal Guns, Including Ghost Guns, and Illicit Drugs

July 7, 2026

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced today the seizure of 22 ghost guns (including 2 assault-style rifles), 3 serialized firearms, multiple large-capacity magazines and 6 oz. of cocaine pursuant to a sting operation led by her Criminal Investigators Squad, and conducted in partnership with the FBI's Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (Homeland Security Investigations), the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and the Greenwich Police Department.

Following the operation, a Greenwich man, Michael Larriuz, 49, was arrested and charged with one count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, a class A-I felony, one count of Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the First Degree, a class B felony, and five counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a class B felony.

The defendant was arraigned last week in White Plains, where bail was set at $100,000 cash/$250,000 bond/$500,000 partially secured bond.

Ghost guns are unserialized, untraceable firearms made with 3D printers or assembled from partially finished gun parts. They completely evade New York's legal framework for manufacturing and selling firearms, which typically includes background checks, fingerprinting and other critical safeguards. Ghost guns are increasingly turning up at crime scenes across the country and in Westchester, in particular. From 2024 to 2025, the number of ghost guns recovered by police agencies in Westchester increased by 33%.

DA Cacace said: "The unheralded work of public safety is the gunshot wound that doesn't exist, the overdose that can't occur and the drug deal that never happens. This week's operation is only a small glimpse behind the scenes, exemplifying the thankless, dedicated investigative work undertaken by my Criminal Investigators Squad, in conjunction with our federal and state counterparts, every single day to root out illegal guns and drugs. Notwithstanding the County's reduction in our public safety funding, I am committed to ensuring Westchester remains a safe place to live, for each of our 48 communities."

FBI NY Assistant Director in Charge James C. Barnacle, Jr., said: "Ghost guns and illicit drugs present a growing danger to the public, and operations like this one demonstrate the FBI's shared commitment to removing drugs and guns from the streets of New York. The arrest of Michael Larriuz on both drug and illegal gun charges is a clear example of the dangerous criminal activity these joint enforcement efforts are designed to disrupt. We will continue to work closely with our partners to safeguard our neighborhoods and hold those who threaten community safety accountable."

HSI NY Acting Special Agent in Charge Pete Gizas said: "Behind every illegal firearm seizure is a potential tragedy prevented. By holding criminals accountable for trafficking potentially lethal weapons, we disrupt the cycle of crime that threatens our communities. HSI will continue to collaborate with our state and federal partners to protect the residents we serve."

Putnam County Sheriff Brian Hess said: "We are proud to have worked closely with the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office throughout this investigation. This case highlights the strength of interagency collaboration and demonstrates how law enforcement partnerships are essential to protecting our communities and ensuring those who commit these crimes are held accountable."

Greenwich Police Chief James Heavey said: "I am very happy with the cooperation and work that our departments did together, and I am proud that we were able to get these illegal weapons off our streets."

The case against Larriuz is being prosecuted by Angie Morelli, Chief of the Complex and Pattern Crimes Bureau.

Question Compliant 10 round pistol question

I’m new to ccw and shopping around. I would like a full size 9mm for the house and sport but just wondering if since they’re built to have higher capacity magazines than what NYS allows, does it throw off the balance of the gun? Or any other effects of owning a full size with 10 rounds? Thank you

Judicial Updates Third Circuit rules NJ Assault Weapon ban unconstitutional as to all semi-auto rifles, and strikes down magazine capacity limit. Remands to lower court to figure out other types of assault weapons.

AWB Unconstitutional as to all semi-auto rifles.

Magazine capacity restriction is unconstitutional as to magazines in common use, court notes that there may be a size that isn't in common use, but greater than 10 is. 30 is almost certainly in common use, expect NJ to target magazines bigger than that.

Record is sufficient for other types of assault weapons, back to the lower court on those.

Big day for NJ, sadly it doesn't help NY directly. But will hopefully increase the chances that the Supreme Court rules on Magazines in Viramontes.

License / Permit Question Alb Co Permit question pg 4

Post image
2 Upvotes

The application instructions state: Completed applications must be signed and sworn to in front of a certified notary. The title of officer is “Notary Public.” Do not fill out any portion of the back or have another agency take fingerprint impressions.

Pg 4 on top, is only notary place... Do I or dont I have it signed with a notary before I schedule for fingerprints. I think I'm over thinking this app since I really do not want any stupid mistakes. I only need to get fingerprinted and get a headshot which I assume I can do at home and print, just has to be passport like. I could call, but want to ask here incase any others need this info as well. Not like their instructions are completely clear for us
