Officials investigate timber theft ring in northeast Oklahoma

Landowners who suspect timber theft are encouraged to call the state Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) or law enforcement.

Late-night headlights, unusual vehicle track marks or missing trees could be signs a timber thief is afoot. ODAFF said in a Thursday news release it's helping local and federal officials track down organized tree-stealing rings in northeast Oklahoma.

"Investigators have found absentee landowners are significantly impacted by timber theft and are strongly encouraged to thoroughly inspect their property or have a trusted representative inspect their property," the release said.

Arrests have been made in the investigation, ODAFF spokesperson Bryce Boyer said, but details are not public.

In a statement, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said it's working with federal, state, tribal and local partners to investigate violations of natural resource laws.

"Illegal commercialization of American natural resources undermines lawful trade and damages American businesses," the agency wrote.

Eastern Oklahoma has a high percentage of forest landowners who don't live on the property, making the area a potential target for timber theft. Private, non-industrial landowners make up at least 10 million acres of forest across the state as of 2016, according to a forestry inventory and analysis.

The department also encourages landowners to look for trash on their properties and watch for suspicious logging business practices.

"Prompt reporting can help investigators identify patterns of criminal activity and protect Oklahoma's valuable forest resources," the release said.

I have amazon prime and google speakers. There's no way to listen to npr news podcast ad-free/add it to my morning news on my google speaker w/o double-paying? 👎

I have it play as part of my morning news on my google speaker, and it keeps mentioning that I can listen to it ad-free with my Amazon Prime membership ... but it seems I can't, practically speaking. Workaround ideas?

Hey y'all! Does anyone know the interlude music used today at around 2:30 on Fresh Air? Or is there anywhere that I can find a list of the songs used? I found a playlist but I'm not sure if it is kept up to date and I dont think it includes musical segments used on Fresh Air.

Playlist listed here:

The problem with the Hunter Biden and that interview

So, first things, I'm an alcoholic (lost my liver to the disease) and it really hit hard. He describes the condition beautifully and certainly speaks my truth (life is great without booze and also nobody hates an addict more than an addict and it's so goddamn liberating to be rid of that monster.).

HOWEVER. Big however. I'm also a leftist and the reason I would never vote for Biden (or his dad, presumably) is because of this media tour he's doing with Candace Owens and I guess Nick Fuentes, who is a self-avowed racist and misogynist, to say nothing of the horrid political conspiracies they both believe.

I believe it's important to publicly talk about addiction and humanity and for GOD sake it's important to be compassionate, kind etc.--but to GIVE YOUR NAME (and he's got a pretty big GD name) to their media, to put your imprimatur on their endeavors so they can make money, expand their audience, pull in listeners and by any measure empower evil in this world is unconscionable and vile.

By all means, go to Candace Owens' house, sit down with her, have a tea.

You do not need to get on her podcast where she's spreading hate.

Doing anything to spread hate is awful. That's not part of recovery, that's not my journey and it's certainly not my politics and, to be clear, this brand of mealy mouthed centrism is going to doom the mainstream democratic party if it hasn't already.

You can talk about addiction and recovery and not make it political. But if you get into a hatefilled pit, you're going to help that hatefilled pit.

It's too bad he's not realized this or, probably more accurately, it's too bad Hunter Biden really doesn't care that much about fascism. His father didn't, so I guess it's not a shock.

But he should.
