📢 Public Service Announcement P2Pool vulnerability is being actively exploited, update to v4.16 NOW

Update: P2Pool-main has been attacked too, today (June 16th) at 00:02:46 UTC - see the log https://p2pool.io/p2pool_main_attack.log.xz All P2Pool miners, you must update to v4.16 immediately if you don't want to mine to the attacker's wallet! Update here: https://github.com/SChernykh/p2pool/releases/latest

Update 2: Me and DataHoarder are currently running a counter-attack by mining malformed blocks ourselves - to hijack the payouts from the attacker and redistribute them to miners later. Currently doing it on p2pool-mini. We will ask the community for more hashrate later, once everything is set up properly.

Both P2Pool Mini / Nano older chains (that did not upgrade to P2Pool v4.16) have been exploited by an unknown attacker targeting the vulnerability patched: https://github.com/SChernykh/p2pool/security/advisories/GHSA-fm6j-gf38-p925

P2Pool Main is probably having the attacker wait to mine a share.

Upgrade as soon as possible https://github.com/SChernykh/p2pool/releases/tag/v4.16

More than half of P2Pool Mini/Nano are still not updated, so their hashrate was lost to the attacker:

How long does it take for my balance to unlock?

Your balance is unlocked after 10 confirmations (which means 10 mined blocks). A block is mined approximately every two minutes on the Monero network, so that would be around 20 minutes.

How can I prove that I sent a payment?

The fastest and most direct way is by using the ExploreMonero blockchain explorer. You will need to recover the transaction key from your wallet (complete guide for GUI / CLI).

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are dozens of exchanges that trade Monero against Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Check out the list on CoinMarketCap and choose the option that suits you best.

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with fiat?

  • Kraken (USD and EUR): old-school, decent exchange. They might require your documents for verification and approval of your account.

How can I quickly exchange my Monero (XMR) for Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are multiple ways to exchange your Monero for Bitcoin, but first of all, I'd like to remind you that if you really want to do your part for Monero, one of the simplest ways is to get in touch with your merchant/service provider and request for it to accept Monero directly as payment. Ask the service provider to visit the official website and our communication channels if he or she needs help with system integration.

That being said, KYCNot.me maintains an up-to-date list of exchanges. These services are only recommendations (which change over time) and are operated by entities outside the control of the Monero Project. DYOR and be diligent.

How do I mine Monero? And other mining questions.

The correct place to ask questions and discuss the Monero mining scene is in the dedicated subreddit r/MoneroMining. That being said, you can find a list of pools and available mining software in the GetMonero.org website.

2. Wallet: CLI & GUI

Why I can't see my balance? Where is my XMR?

Before any action there are two things to check:

  1. Are you using the latest available version of the wallet? A new version is released roughly every 6 months, so make sure you're using the current release (compare the release on GetMonero.org with your wallet's version on Settings, under Debug info).
  2. Is your wallet fully synchronized? If it isn't, wait the sync to complete.

Because Monero is different from Bitcoin, wallet synchronization is not instant. The software needs to synchronize the blockchain and use your private keys to identify your transactions. Check in the lower left corner (GUI) if the wallet is synchronized.

You can't send transactions and your balance might be wrong or unavailable if the wallet is not synced with the network. So please wait.

If this is not a sufficient answer for your case and you're looking for more information, please see this answer on StackExchange.

How do I upgrade my wallet to the newest version?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

Why does it take so long to sync the wallet [for the first time]?

You have decided to use Monero's wallet and run a local node. Congratulations! You have chosen the safest and most secure option for your privacy, but unfortunately this has an initial cost. The first reason for the slowness is that you will need to download the entire blockchain, which is considerably heavy and constantly growing (up-to-date sizes of a full/pruned node). There are technologies being implemented in Monero to slow this growth, however it is inevitable to make this initial download to run a full node. Consider syncing to a device that has an SSD instead of an HDD, as this greatly impacts the speed of synchronization.

Now that the blockchain is on your computer, the next time you run the wallet you only need to download new blocks, which should take seconds or minutes (depending on how often you use the wallet).

I don't want to download the blockchain, how can I skip that?

The way to skip downloading the blockchain is connecting your wallet to a public remote node. You can follow this guide on how to set it up. Check out Feather Wallet's list of remote nodes, ditatompel's list, or monero.fail.

Be advised that when using a public remote node you lose some of your privacy. A public remote node is able to identify your IP and opens up a range for certain attacks that further diminish your privacy. A remote node can't see your balance and it can't spend your XMR.

How do I restore my wallet from the mnemonic seed or from the keys?

To restore your wallet with the 25 word mnemonic seed, please see this guide.

To restore your wallet with your keys, please see this guide.

3. Wallet: Ledger

How do I generate a Ledger Monero Wallet with the GUI or CLI?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.

4. Wallet: Trezor

How do I generate a Trezor Monero Wallet with the GUI or CLI?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.

5. Nodes

How can my local node become a public remote node?

If you want to support other Monero users by making your node public, you can follow the instructions on MoneroWorld, under the section "How To Include Your Node On Moneroworld".

How can I connect my node via Tor?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

Warning XmrBazaar security holes

I just want to warn users as much as possible because the staff of XmrBazaar do nothing.

XmrBazaar must be taken with care, no administrator answer and there are security holes to impersonate the staff.

Some scammers currently use a trick to use the same nickname as an administrator, the link goes to the correct profile but you speak to someone else.

Don't use the site escrow, you may not speak to a real mediator even if their profile seems legit. I lose 1,25 XMR.

The staff is warned for several days but the scams continue, the site creator didn't answer to my private messages. (I'm not even sure to talk to him with this bug! There's no way to be sure and they do nothing.)

Skepticism Sunday – July 19, 2026

Please stay on topic: this post is only for comments discussing the uncertainties, shortcomings, and concerns some may have about Monero.

NOT the positive aspects of it.

Discussion can relate to the technology itself or economics.

Talk about community and price is not wanted, but some discussion about it maybe allowed if it relates well.

Be as respectful and nice as possible. This discussion has potential to be more emotionally charged as it may bring up issues that are extremely upsetting: many people are not only financially but emotionally invested in the ideas and tools around Monero.

It's better to keep it calm then to stir the pot, so don't talk down to people, insult them for spelling/grammar, personal insults, etc. This should only be calm rational discussion about the technical and economic aspects of Monero.

"Do unto others 20% better than you'd expect them to do unto you to correct subjective error." - Linus Pauling

How it works:

Post your concerns about Monero in reply to this main post.

If you can address these concerns, or add further details to them - reply to that comment. This will make it easily sortable

Upvote the comments that are the most valid criticisms of it that have few or no real honest solutions/answers to them.

The comment that mentions the biggest problems of Monero should have the most karma.

As a community, as developers, we need to know about them. Even if they make us feel bad, we got to upvote them.

XMREscrow v1.1.0 - non-custodial 2-of-3 multisig escrow, open-source client, hold your own key

We just shipped a non-custodial escrow mode and wanted to put the mechanics in front of this community specifically, because "trust us" isn't an answer here.

How it works: it's a standard Monero 2-of-3 multisig. Buyer, seller, and operator each generate one key. Any two of the three sign to move funds. On a cooperative deal, buyer and seller co-sign the release directly - the operator's key is never used. The operator only enters on a dispute, and even then can only co-sign with one side (refund to buyer or release to seller); it can never move funds alone.

The part that matters for trust: each party's key is generated in their own browser via the monero-ts WebAssembly wallet and never leaves the device. The server only relays opaque multisig exchange data — no seeds, no keys. The client is open source (github.com/xmrescro/xmrescrow-client) and you can diff the wallet code against the upstream monero-ts package to confirm the key is generated locally. Don't trust - verify.

You save a one-time restore key per party, so you can reopen and co-sign later. There's live 0/10 confirmation tracking for both sides.

Fees: multisig is 3% + $3 min; the older operator-mediated (custodial) mode dropped to 1% + $3 min. No fee on disputes or refunds. No accounts, no KYC, minimal logs. Works over Tor (Standard level for the WASM wallet; the operator-mediated mode needs no JS at all and runs at Safest).

Operator identity is PGP-verifiable (fingerprint on the site, the X profile, and the Telegram bio - cross-check them) and there's a warrant canary. Happy to answer anything technical here - including how the ceremony and dispute co-signing work.

Kraken is not the last Monero CEX!

I hear from people on twitter to reddit stating that kraken limiting monero is the last CEX folding. This is just blatanty not true

The united states has Kraken and UEX.US but yes we still have something to fall back on if kraken delists.

But outside of the US, Europeans can buy it directly on WhiteBit and DFX

Globally? MEXC, Kucoin, HTX, XT, Bitfinex etc.

You can leverage trade it on hyperliquid, lighter, poloniex, binance and bybit… far from being only on one CEX

Friday Monero Market Thread - July 17, 2026

This is the weekly Monero market thread. This thread will be posted every Friday and is meant to help accelerate the adoption of Monero. Due to r/moneromarket having only a fraction of the subscribers of r/Monero, we have decided to create this thread to encourage more individuals to use Monero for product exchanges. Until the market matures, we recommend that the Monero community post their products both in this thread and on r/moneromarket (to ensure growth of that subreddit).

Selling items for Monero will boost your (and Monero's) reputation as a legitimate form of exchange of goods. This is necessary for the growth of Monero, our community, and privacy as a whole.

Instructions

When you post your product or job listing here, please make sure to: - Give a description of the item. - Link to a photo of the item (if it's physical). - Provide logistics information (such as, location and/or shipping availability). - Optionally, provide an additional (private) form of communication outside of Reddit (e.g. Bitmessage, u/protonmail, u/tutanota, GPG key). - Post the price in XMR terms.

Spamming will not be tolerated. Please make sure that listings are legitimate and do not break rule 2."

Finally, credits to cdotsubo for starting the concept!

Celebrating 5 years and 5000 active VPS! Always without KYC!

Hello r/monero,

It is this time of the year again!

Since last year we have massively moved to colocation with now over 50% of our customers being hosted on our own hardware. 2 locations with our own servers, a 3rd one on the way (Finland) and more coming.

Monero is still accounting for the majority of our payments, as it is from the beginning representing around 30% of all orders.

This year is a special one: servers.guru turns 5 years old, and almost at the same time we passed 5000 active VPS. We've been providing VPS and webhosting for the Monero community since day one, back in July 2021, and honestly seeing both milestones land together feels great.

To celebrate the double milestone we are running two coupons at the same time, valid on our Netherlands (1 Gbps, unmetered & 10 Gbps), USA - West (10 Gbps), Singapore (1 Gbps) and Montreal (1 Gbps & unmetered) VPS:

- 2026_5_5000_50_XMR → 50% off your first invoice (one time)

- 2026_5_5000_XMR → 35% off recurring, for the lifetime of your service

Both to be used at checkout, and yearly payments get 2 months free on top which stacks with the coupons, so the small NL plan comes out to about €25 for the first year.

If you don't know us yes: we are an anonymous hosting provider. No KYC, no personal data required to set up your service. Just a working email, and of course we accept Monero :).

As usual, let us know what you think about the offers and our services in general, all feedback is welcome :)

You can check us out here: https://servers.guru

Thank you for reading :)

Kraken US implementing XMR withdrawal and deposit limits on August 15th

I'm surprised I haven't seen a post here about this yet. Individual withdrawal limits are set to $1,500 and deposit limits are $3500, starting August 15th.

https://x.com/xenumonero/status/2076807666731520248

I personally confirmed this with Kraken Support on Twitter as well.

How are people feeling about this? I know there will be some who carry on as usual with the mantra that CEXs don't matter, but hypothetically if you carried a large monero balance (6 figures, etc)... you've pretty much lost your liquidity. Monero can be used P2P to a certain extent... but for big purchases like a house? I imagine it's niche.

Do you hold out and hope for DEXs like Thorchain or Serai? Do you derisk a bit before Aug 15th? Keep holding Monero without liquidity for awhile and hope for the cyberpunk P2P future? Is there a replacement that's feasible already I'm unaware of?

Overall I think it's a big negative to lose Kraken. However, I'm curious how others think about it. It is also a bummer this is happening with the "pro crypto White House" in a country where we are "free." Lastly I hope it is temporary but I doubt Kraken will roll this back...

Anyway. Curious about your thoughts. Cheers.

-community double ban appeal + Revuo Monero X account credentials full handover by plowsof

It is not normally my style to start creating reddit threads and posts on socials about this to bring awareness and participation into the issue, but... u/plowsof keeps playing "mental games" with his cynicism, double ban and gatekeeping antics.

Please, if you have a spare couple minutes, catch up with this reddit thread, where I started denouncing what was going on. Unfortunately, there's been little to no change in attitude from him, so... now we have this GitHub issue, to discuss precisely the matter that is shown in thread title, and GitHub issue title.

Thanks for your time. monero[.]forum thread; X thread.

XMR remains King - Payment Stats June 2026

All hail the King of Privacy

Dear privacy aficionados,

Every month we publish our payment statistics because they offer a small glimpse into how people actually use crypto in everyday life.

June looked a bit different than usual. Monero remained the most-used payment method at 49.37%, but USDT climbed to 37.03%, while Bitcoin accounted for only 10.20%.

For comparison, June last year was the exceptional month when USDT briefly overtook Monero and all other coins. This year, XMR is back in its usual leading position, but USDT is unusually high again.

It's just one month's data, so I wouldn't read too much into it. Still, I find these shifts interesting because they reflect real spending behaviour rather than exchange volumes or speculation.

That said, the long-term picture at ShopinBit is crystal clear: Monero users consistently make up our most active customers. I really appreciate your continued support and the trust you've placed in us over the years.

AMA in the comments.

Best regards

Lando Rothbardian

CEO of ShopinBit

XMRHub.org Just Launched Forum Tab

Post image
13 Upvotes

While this is far from final product.. and there will be a sweeping amount of updates pushed for forums and XMRHub itself by my developer. I love the look of this so much and we are allowing free speech maximalism

The goal of xmrhub is to become the hub of all things monero, a apple ecosystem of sorts where you dont have to go to 2000 different websites. Your sign-in here works with XMRMap, XMRPredictions and more projects to come.

The account profiles are in a very early stage and will look extremely better in a not so distant future. Your @ which will be cross platform across all xmrhub projects will be worth quite a bit in a few short months..

No email or phone number required. You get a backup key you need to save

Secure your legendary @ today before someone takes it!

I love this community and coin so much.

How are we spending Monero IRL?

I am curious how others have found ways to spend their XMR in real life for normal life type stuff. So far I have found the opportunities limited but have used it for:

-eSim when traveling via silent link

-IPTV and various streaming and content providers

-Nano GPT for AI

Beyond web services I haven't found many simple ways to spend it. I am trying to incorporate it more into my daily life for spending to use it as it was intended but it is difficult. Buying and managing different gift cards for different services involves a big markup and a pain to manage the balances so I haven't tried that yet.

What is everyone else using it for?
