I bought this barebones. Do I need to be careful when buying a nvme drive or memory regarding physical size? Do I need to buy anything else like fans or anything before loading an OS? Thank you for the help.

The Intel Core 5 226V is essentially the weaker sibling of the Intel Core 7 256V. Lower clocks on both the CPU and GPU and also the 130V has 7 cores vs the 8 cores of the ARC 140V.

Hi, looking to buy the Minisforum X1 Lite, I already have 2 4TB SSDs. It can take 128GB of RAM and 2 x 4TB SSD. It has a Ryzen 7 255. Planned usage is for LLM. I was going over specs and comparing to other Mini PCs and noticed a Ryzen H 255. Any real world difference between the two? It looks like lower watts for the 255, not much else. Any thoughts or experience using it for LLM or other uses would be appreciated. I'll be starting with 32GB RAM. Thx!

I bought the extreme edition in January this year and this is an outstanding and very stable machine. Very acceptable price (still) with the ridiculous current hw prices. When I started running local LLMs I noticed specifically RAM was getting warmer than I liked, sometimes going well over 60 celcius (but still way below thermal threshold). Solution? A big ass 140 mm fan on top, with a USB voltage regulator, blowing down with 600 dead silent rpm, ridding the chassis' massive cooling fans from heat build up. Result? 2 hours of local LLM carnage and the RAM temperature stays well below 50 celcius with an occasional peak of 51, 52 degrees. Soc: between 25 and 30 degrees under normal load. Network chip: before minimum 52 always, after 38 max. SSDs, from 55 to 40.

Overall the fan improves the heat profile massively, dropping components temperatures between say 15 to 25 degrees. Fan and controller? 22 euros!

Minisforum UM790 Pro (Ryzen 9 7940HS) shipped with 1×16GB DDR5.

I added a second 16GB stick (same brand and type as the original (crucial 5600 16 gb)). The machine initially booted fine (I was using my monitor's PD (90W) at the time). I launched a heavy game, which caused my OS to crash (it has happened before, with the same game, in retrospect I guess it failed because there was not enough power?). This time I couldn't boot the machine again

Current symptoms: * Power LED on * Fan starts slow, ramps up, then settles to a constant speed * No video on HDMI or USB4 * Keyboard Caps Lock LED does not toggle

Tested with the stock 120W adapter and HDMI, but no luck. I tried to go back to a single ram stick, tested each stick, in each of the two slots, every time doing power drainage and CMOS reset, with the nvme SSD disconnect NVMe SSD disconnected

The machine is brand new, I didn't notice anything burnt or faulty, the ram pins seem fine, all seems clean, so I'm left perplexed. What could the issue be? Could the machine be fully bricked? Is it a bios issue? Something got short circuited?

I have a minisforum um790 pro with AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS processor, AMD Radeon 780M, 32gb DDR5 ram. It is running windows 11 pro. I was planning with experimenting on some Local LLMs using LM studio. So I went to BIOS to allocate the 780m gpu 16gb of RAM. It had been allocated 2gb. When I did that, the machine froze. And even the bios reset button wouldn't work. I had to open it, disconnect the battery, leave it like that for half an hour and reconnect for it to even get back on.

After that happened and I got it to start booting, I get a secure boot error. I had to disable secure boot altogether and put in my bitlocker key to get back into windows.

So I have two questions.

1) How do I allocate 16gb of RAM to the gpu? I haven't tried 8GB or something smaller. I will try that today.

2) How do I get secure boot working again. I tried resetting it, no luck.

Yeah, I know. My budget is just $100. But I think there is something good for a 24/7 working server. I'm good with Celeron and 8GB of RAM. I was looking at DELL OptiPlex 3020 mini PC, but on Amazon is more than my $100. So, is enyone using as a server a mini PC under $100? Or for office? My site doesn't have a lot of animations or something, is a place for my APIs. If you know something worth under $100, I need your help! Thanks!

I just graduated college and I wanted to build a pc, but Ram is so expensive I just can’t afford it. I’m thinking of getting a mini pc to play sims. It has to be able to run the game with all of the expansion packs and mods. I’m thinking 32 GB ram and 1Tb of storage. What’s the most efficient and affordable option? Hello! I noticed Best Buy has a deal for the Geekom A5 mini PC and it looks like it meets what I'm looking for.

I just want a PC that is small, quiet, and discreet. I am not a big gamer and can accomplish a bit with my MacBook but for games that require windows, I'd rather use a PC.

I've seen reviews saying the Geekom systems are decent, just not customizable when you'd want to upgrade some components. I think that would work well for me as I'm interested in playing games like meccha chameleon or Hades on it. I would also use it for light graphic design with canva and photoshop. It looks like I can easily use a drawing pad with it so I'm not too worried on that end. I just know very little about PCs and building a mini pc seems daunting. My needs are pretty light, I don't game frequently or every day. Something small and compact seems ideal as I'm tired of using my MacBook and being limited by it.

Is this a good deal and would it meet my needs?

Hi, CPU fan for my um690 is failing, tried fixing/lubricating it, but it is sealed and keeps getting bad. Any suggestion?

For now the PC is working fine, even with elavated temps but i am not sure how long it will work before getting fried as the fan is not able to throttle

I recently got the Minisforum UM790 Pro and I noticed a small flat cable connector between the two m.2 slots. Nothing is connected to it, but it reminded me of similar connectors I've seen on older laptops where this connected to a SATA data+power cable. I couldn't find any information about this connector online so far, so I was curious if anyone knows more about this?

Seller said it was barely used and comes with 32GB RAM + 1TB storage

Runs perfectly fine for my needs and haven’t had any issues with it so far

HX370/HX470 is going for $1400 AUD+ in Australia - sometimes even reaching $2k

Was going to build an ITX PC but life got in the way and I don’t have $3000 to spare now

I won’t be playing demanding titles on this anyway but if needed in future I’ll save up and get an eGPU

Sizing up at a WHOPPING 2 liters, built off a m90q gen 3 with an external pico psu powering only the gpu. My “coup de grace” of pc building, and ironically i run it on a 720p plasma screen from 2008

When I look at the system information, I see that on average, I am using about 75% of the current available physical ram. Then it also tells me I have 24gb of total virtual memory, but only 4gb of that is available.

I am ok with buying a used unit and it does not need to be upgradable. My only other experience with a mini PC is an EliteDesk, which seems to be more readily available on the used market than this zbox zotac.

Any thoughts on going with say a used elitedesk with similar specs to the zbox versus getting a brand new china/amazon brand one with similar specs? I am open to other options as well. Budget is ideally around $150-$400.

I'm trying to install Windows 11 on my ASUS ROG Strix G15, but the Windows Setup screen is extremely small and centered on the display. I've attached a picture of the issue.

The laptop has a 1920×1080 (Full HD) display, so I expected the installer to scale correctly.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is this a Windows Setup resolution/scaling issue, a graphics driver issue, or could it be something else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

EDIT: I bought some thermal paste per the replies, and after spending some time trying to open the pc, i wasnt even sure if what i was looking at was the original thermal paste, it was more clay like and dusty ToT no wonder it was heating up so fast.

Ive had my Hm90 from minisforum for 4 years, and was wondering if I could buy and install new parts to make it faster. I dont know much about computers, so im not sure if my pc even has the slots for it to go from 32gb ram to 64gb. It started to shut down randomly once or twice a week, and the fans start whirring when i try to export files from after effects that aren't that heavy.

i hear prices of ram and computers in general are only going to go up so might as well qwq
