This is a subreddit all about Yacht Club Games newest announced game: Mina The Hollower. A Link’s Awakening inspired adventure game (seemingly). I hope to see a lot of people discussing different aspects about the game they are interested in. Have fun everybody!

Art Mina The Hollower splash screen art, by me.

This one took me a long while. I fell in love with the game and I've been wanting to make an Igarashi era Castlevania inspired poster of it, since it has a lot of Castlevania in its blood.
Also uploaded a steam hero crop of this on Steam Grid DB.

I'm in the middle of a reverse run. I started with Astral Orrery, than Coltrane Peak, and now I just finished Bone Beach.

Am I going the right way?

Post image

Is this supposed to be the right way? All paths seem to lead me here, but I don't know of a way to get past this deep water on the left. I've beaten the swamp area, but this is too wide of a gap to cross.

Any hints appreciated. I've been going through this without a walkthrough, but some of these screen are a bit much.

Just started playing - question about Thorne fight

I’m clearly not boned up enough for this fight. Still level 1.

Is there a way for me to leave this area and go back to where I was before the ribbon cutting so I can practice?

I can’t seem to figure out how if so. Feels like I’m stuck having to fight him.

Question Brute Force or Run Away? Spoiler

I got the first spark and the got the one from the spooky place and am now at the Bone Beach boss. I'm having a hell of a time with it although I alllllmost beat him a couple times. I sort of beelined here and I wonder if I've gone kinda out of order since the Bayou also seems to be an option. Am I better to leave and beef up a bit or should I just keep bashing away until I beat him? I had a hell of a time getting here so I don't love the idea of leaving.

Didn't he say kill 50 enemies? How come it didn't complete, or is it 50 enemies without entering the hideout?
I just activated the tower and escorted the smol frog so this isn't about being softlocked.

What trinket loadout did everyone settle on? Spoiler

I swapped a few in-out (usually for utility in specific scenarios like the lantern) but what I used for most of the game was:

Wallower's Gauntlet, Tunneling Codex, Brisk Brew, Lace Glove, Primed Vial Pouch, Plasma Funnel.

Septemburg and Bone Beach were my first two areas, so I got the Gauntlet and Codex very early on. Wallower's Gauntlet helped in a lot of annoying rooms but didn't feel crucial, I just liked using it to bypass a lot of bs haha. I honestly can't imagine playing without Tunneling Codex though... it made the movement feel almost like top-down Celeste. Vial Pouch and Plasma Funnel just felt comfy once I had enough slots... quick heals saved my ass in a lot of annoying areas.

I ended up being hypermobile with this, so revisiting areas felt hilarious just getting a kill or two, sprinting past everything. But, I think most of my deaths in the back half of the game were from overshooting or crashing into things, not realizing my HP was that low and dying.

Curious if anyone else had anything similar, or like complete opposite. I feel like there are some combinations that make you insanely tanky, or some that have way higher damage output at the cost of mobility, etc.

Question I bought the volatile beastium from the train guy but it doesn't show en the trinkets' list, is it lost forever?

The item icon looked like a piece of paper but neither that or the regular icon all the others stone uses can be seen on the trinket list, is there something else I have to do or is it bugged out of this save file?

Question Trying to avoid any spoilers, but I'm not sure if I've properly explored an area. Was hoping someone here could confirm/deny? Spoiler

After reaching Ossex and fighting Thorne I went to the swamp area. I just defeated the mock moon boss and I filled a jug for a frog who then decided to be a sociopath and attack me, plus I found the ape running the shop.

Have I "completed" the stuff I was meant to do in the swamp area?I can't recall if there's meant to be a spark generator there or not, but I don't really know what I'm meant to do.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I've made it to a room where lightning strikes two pylons but I've tried everything and can't seem to progress through there so I've assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that progressing in that room requires an item or ability I have yet to unlock

Minaposting MTH feels right at home on the ol' Trinitron

I know it's inspired by Game Boy Color titles, but the native 256x144 resolution feels like it's just begging to be played on an old CRT TV. And I'm glad I did!

But nobody likes a Show & Tell post with no "tell" part, so here it is:

TV: Sony Trinitron KV-27S42 PC: Dell Optiplex 7090 GPU: AMD R5 430 OEM OS: Batocera (with CRT script installed to output 15khz progressive analog out) Emulator: Steam Signal chain: GPU>DVI>DVI-to-VGA adapter>VGA-to-S-video transcoder>S-video cable>TV

Question Help: Why is my health bar still so small? (SECOND PIC CONTAINS SPOILERS) Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
11 Upvotes

First picture is my health bar, second pic is a screenshot from a final boss video. I'm honestly perplexed as to what I'm missing, because I've done everything Google says I need to do. I defeated every main boss that you earn a rose from, I bought everything from the shop in Ossex, and I even jumped over the gap in the courtyard garden to fight Evra. But it still looks like two

"columns" smaller than the one in the video. Is there some scripted sequence I haven't encountered yet where your health bar grows to that size? Is the guy in the video using some trinket that increases his health? I just wanna make sure I'm not going into the final boss woefully unprepared
