Ice-cream seller on the iron trunk aqueduct

I’ve cycled along the union canal to Cosgrove a lot of times, and very occasionally there’s been the welcome sight of an ice-cream seller, with an electric bike and fridge, peaked cap and white coat, next to the iron trunk aqueduct.
Is there any way to find out in advance if he’ll be there on a particular day, or when he will be there? Or does he show up only when the weather is good and he feels like it?
Respect to him either way, but I’d love to be able to set out on a ride safe in the knowledge he’ll be there for my ice-cream refreshment needs.

Has anyone successfully fought MK1 Parking?

Does anyone have experience with MK1 parking? How likely are they to take me to court if I don’t pay PCN?

I’m a Private Hire Driver (Uber) and had a journey to the MK stadium the restaurants area and a pick up that I had to cancel due to no show. I’m allowed to stop at double yellows but used the Drop off/Pick up area instead so I don’t block the road. Apparently this area is for 10 minutes only and I stayed for 12 which they say is in breach of their contract. I didn’t leave the vehicle to read any signs and have a minimum waiting time before I cancel. I provided evidence for all this but they still refused my appeal. Should I chance it and go to court where I’ll waste a lot of time or pay?

Either way I need to apologise in advance to the other MK citizens because I’ll be stopping on the double yellows lines from now and this will be blocking the traffic.

Best carbonara

Where does the best carbonara pasta in MK (restaurant or takeaway)

Must not have extras like peas, onion, or mushroom.

Bonus points for guanciale rather than bacon/pancetta but not a must.

Recommendations to supply and fit radiators?

Bought my flat last summer and it was cold in the winter

Two of my rads are single panel so I'm looking to get them replaced with double before the weather turns

Any recommendations for a firm to supply and fit and balance the system? The rads to be replaced are where I want the heat (bedroom and living room) and are furthest from the boiler

Is it likely to be a lot cheaper to measure and buy myself and then pay for fitting? When I did some reading I was bewildered by the BTU calculations

Moving back from London - How did you find it?

Hi All,

I am reaching out to anyone who grew up in Milton Keynes but then moved to London and ended up moving back, how did you find it. Did you regret it or glad you did it.

Context - I am in my mid to late 30s and have lived in London for a while now. I left MK as I was into club culture, queer, social, liked walking (did not have a car), could do something different things every day if I wanted too and meet different groups.

I did not have many friends in MK growing up and I made my friends in London - but with life people move on to have a family or people's priorities change or you drift away. I am in a relationship and my career has grown from strength to strength. I would say I am more of a home bird now as I WFH 4 days a week., I want to buy a home and a car. I want to leave London as financially I can no longer justify it and the prices are depressing me and I want a good quality of life. While I may not have many friends here in MK (apart from one very good friend) I do have a lot of family here. Did anyone who moved back to MK, regret it?

There was a time where I would NEVER consider coming back but I like MK more than I used too.

anything for young people to do?

my friend and I are trying to find something to do tomorrow, but everything we're thinking of is either waaaay to expensive, or super dull.

We really don't want to spend another afternoon just walking up and down the City, so does anybody have any suggestions?

Council still cutting grass

How do we convince the council to stop running the motorised lawn mowers?

Most of the grass is dried out or dead since there was no rain since it was last cut. Yet we are waisting money, fuel and generating CO2, while removing the last bit of shade the ground can have to keep a bit of moisture and help the little bugs.

Grief community is picnic in the park this Saturday in MK

Post image

Hi r/MiltonKeynes, posted in here a few times before about Too Young To Grieve and wanted to share something a little different we’re doing this weekend.

We’re hosting a community picnic in the park! Just a relaxed afternoon for young adults navigating grief and loss. Bring your own snacks and drinks, we’ll bring the community, some nice vibes and a speaker on the day.

Same vibe as always, no pressure to share anything personal, just a safe space outside to be around others who get it.

I’ll put the community details below for anyone who’s interested and feel free to share with someone who might need it 🤍

Short Term Rentals

Hello,

I am likely moving to the area from abroad and hoping to find some month to month accommodation to get acquainted with the area before making a decision as to where to live long term. Is there anywhere that offers furnished (even unfurnished is an option too) flats on a month to month lease that isn't significantly inflated by over 100%? Thanks!

Christmas Events for a preschool kid

I know, I know, it’s not even the end of July yet but we used to live in an area where Christmas events for kids got booked up by the end of August and I wanted to be ready if that’s the case here!

We’ve not lived in the north Bucks area for long so I’m not sure what’s good around here for kids at Christmas. We have a 3.5 year old (will be nearly 4) and a newborn (will be 6 months) so need something that will cater to both. In our old area we did a Santa themed steam train ride which toddler loved and normally meet Father Christmas at a garden centre. We’ve done the lights at Waddesdon before with family. I’d love something a bit different or unusual but not sure where’s best to look?

I also don’t really want to be paying £100 for the four of us and only getting a short experience and a cheap gift for the kids, which is what a lot of the experiences in our old area were.

Have you received a MK Car-Cruising PSPO Notice or Fixed Penalty?

I am looking to document how MK City Council's Vehicle Anti Social Behaviour/Public Space
Protection Order is being interpreted and enforced.

We would love to hear privately from anyone who has received any of the following:

  • A PSPO Fixed Penalty Notice
  • Paperwork referring to Section 67/68
  • A warning or direction from the council or police
  • Any notices relating to the car-crusing PSPO
  • A notice issued to you just for attending/ spectating/parking or speaking with other vehicle owners
  • Any additional thoughts or issues you think the PSPO may bring up

Please do not post any admissions, names or addresses here!

The purpose is to establish whether the order is applied consistently and fairly. This is not legal advice in any shape or form. Thank you

Advice needed: Letting agency in MK holding my deposit and refusing to refund

Hi everyone, hoping for some advice regarding a local letting agency here in MK.
I recently vacated a room I was renting from "The ST Properties" (ST Properties Ltd) in Bletchley. I moved out on May 25th, but my rent was paid in full until June 3rd.

The issue is that they are refusing to return my £400 security deposit. They are claiming it is "Serviced Accommodation" to argue that standard deposit protection rules don’t apply, and they are now ignoring my follow-up messages.

According to the contract I signed with them:
Clause 7: It explicitly states that the deposit "will be refunded within seven days after check-out, subject to no damages or outstanding charges".

No evidence: They have failed to provide any invoices or photographic evidence of "damages or outstanding charges" as required by their own contract.

I have already sent a formal Letter Before Action, and the handler (Juliet) has dismissed my messages as "threats" and told me to just deal with the property manager (Sean), who is currently "seen-zoning" me.

I am preparing to file a claim via Money Claim Online (MCOL), but I wanted to see if anyone else in MK has had similar experiences with this specific company or has advice on how to handle "short-term license" agreements that are essentially being used to bypass tenant rights.
Should I report them to the local Council’s housing department before or after the court filing? Any advice from those who have navigated the small claims process in MK would be greatly appreciated.

Places Kids Can Eat For Free (Or For Cheap) During Summer

Post image
84 Upvotes

Hey all!

Seeing as that _potential_ scammer deleted their post I thought I'd make my own post letting folks with kids round MK know where they can get cheaper food over the summer holidays.

There's also apps called Olio and Too Good To Go where you can pick up free or heavily discounted food at specific times of the day.

If you have any other suggestions for those who really need help please contribute! ♡

Apartment hunting in MK

Hi! My partner and I are looking into moving to Milton Keynes in August for my work. We have been looking at apartments for the past week. We are currently based in Cardiff Central, and he may have to travel once a week back for his work. I am a little new to the whole apartment hunting scene, and have been looking at options for 1 bedroom apartments. The ones that come up are really modern apartments that has rent at around 1.5k without any bills or taxes, which admittedly might put us paycheck to paycheck without any savings. I just wanted to ask, is it really hard to find something that comes upto 1.5 including bills? If so, which are the platforms I can look into? I would really appreciate any help or insight I can get 😭

Guitarist here 👋

Hello all,

I have a YouTube channel. Let me know what songs you’d like to hear from me. I’m thinking of playing some Bob Marley for now.

I’m mostly into progressive rock, alternative rock, and a bit of blues.

Feel free to contact me if you play an instrument yourself or want to know more about my channel. I personally would love to practice with a drummer and keyboard player.

Lots of love,

Michael
