We live in Northern Michigan near Thunder Bay.

We have gardened for 20 years and for the past 2 years have noticed not as many bees in our garden.

This year especially...barely any.

We have a plot of oregano that we let go 6 years ago and were going to cut it down, until we realized that a huge amount of bees were working it and some even sleeping in it.
So we've kept it and built our garden around that plot to give them a place to gather and do their thing.

There are none in there this year and I've only seen 2 bumble bees.

I'm wondering if the 2 ice storms, only 350 days apart, destroyed a ton of colonies or if it's something else on top of the storms.

Our vegetables and plants are still getting pollinated, but not having a bunch of those winged workers, (which I was scared to death of before I started a garden and realized they are free labor and so important), around has made me feel not just sad, but concerned.

What part of Michigan are you from and have you noticed the same thing?

Any Idea why this may be happening where we are located?

Grassroots vs purchasing power. What do you think will matter more in this race?

A decade’s worth of grudges and feuds between the Democratic establishment and the insurgent left is coming to a head in one election this year: Michigan’s Senate primary.

The contest between Rep. Haley Stevens and Abdul El-Sayed has somehow unearthed every fault line that’s divided the two factions over the years — from gender and racial politics, to Israel and Gaza, to questions of electability and fair play, to money in politics, and much more.

On one side there’s Stevens, a four-term House member who is the preferred candidate of the Democratic establishment — and of AIPAC, which has spent nearly $30 million to support her campaign.

On the other is El-Sayed, a former public health official who’s been backed by Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and their network of supporters and fans.

But the race has quickly gone beyond just them and become about something bigger — the national struggle for influence in the Democratic Party.

“This is the quintessential contest between the establishment wing of the Democratic Party and the economically populist wing,” said Joseph Geevarghese, executive director of the left group Our Revolution.

In contrast, Jonathan Cowan, president of the center-left group Third Way, argued that nominating El-Sayed — a “super extreme candidate who will alienate lots of voters in the middle” — is a dangerous risk.

In this one race, the Democratic factions are relitigating the 2016 presidential primary, the 2020 presidential primary, and several major controversies of the past few years, all at once. And whoever wins will have to find a way to somehow unite the party and win a competitive general election against presumptive Republican nominee Mike Rogers.

May be this is specific to Metro Detroit and More specific to Woodward corridor schools- Berkley, Birmingham, Royal Oak and Troy.
Hopefully I get some guidance.

I am asian immigrant. We are trying to decide on best schools for our kids.
What we have learned so far~ we do not want to get into rat race of Troy school - elite STEM focused group.
We want our kids to be more diverse than just STEM kids.
I did that my whole life and I know for sure it helped but also realized that it is not necessary.

I need help / opinions (may be from people who went through these schools) on their experience.

Birmingham schools:
1. Seaholm/ Grooves: are these diverse enough? Specially for immigrants? All online reviews say they are as good as Troy but they have a problem of financial disparity.
Any insight on your own experience is welcome.

1. Berkley schools:
   How good/ bas are they? Not much information available.

2. Royal oak schools:
   This seems lowest scores (according to rating sites) but lot of potential. They are improving every year.

Any other suggestions, inputs are welcome.

My kids are young (in elementary). So I have time. But I would like them to get to right schools now - so they can start bonding with neighborhood kids and make long term friendships than wait until high schools and make it hard on them.

For anyone who hasn’t gone, Calder Plaza hosts a few foodie events actually. This is only one. I use the Pure Michigan website to stay informed. Tamales Mary was the best the best dish to me.

LANSING, Mich. (News 10) (News 10) - Stephanie Chatfield, the wife of former Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield (R-Levering), has learned her sentence after pleading guilty to felony embezzlement charges last month.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced on June 16 Chatfield had pleaded to one felony count of embezzlement from a non-profit of between $200 and $1,000. At the time the AG’s office said Chatfield will serve a term of probation as determined by the court and, upon successful completion of that term of probation, the remaining counts against her will be dismissed.

The judge on Monday determined Chatfield will serve a probation term of six months - more than the 30 days requested by her attorney and much less than the 24 months requested by the prosecution.

Chatfield also was ordered to pay a $2,000 fine and complete 25 hours of community service.

Currently his favorite hobbies include playing hard & napping harder, eating & treats, getting affection & snuggles from his humans, zooming around & chasing after toys, "hunting" birds & squirrels from the window sill, and learning new things. Chester also LOVES his cat trees; climbing, jumping, scratching the posts & napping in the hammock.

Chester does very well with his siblings & other kitties, and also has done well with large (calmer) dogs! Chester would make a great addition to any home, with a proper transition. He needs to go to a home that already has a kitty playmate for him.

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for some advice. I currently need to commute from Northville to the Telegraph Road area in Southfield on weekdays, and taking Uber every day is becoming really expensive.
I recently got my Michigan learner’s permit and should be getting my driver’s license in about two weeks, so I’m just looking for a temporary commuting solution until then.
Does anyone know of any ride-share groups, carpools, vanpools, or other affordable ways to commute between Northville and Southfield? I’d be happy to contribute toward travel expenses if someone drives a similar route.

BARAGA COUNTY, MI -- A former Michigan Department of Corrections officer has been arraigned on a felony charge after allegedly aiding a prisoner’s attack on a fellow officer.

Shelby Pennock, 44, allegedly intentionally opened a prison cell door, resulting in the assault of another MDOC corrections officer on March 28 at the Baraga Correctional.

While Pennock’s colleague was performing a separate task, Pennock allegedly opened an inmate’s cell door knowing these actions would result in a physical assault on another corrections officer.

Does anyone have a recommendation for Michigan-produced apple cider vinegar, using Michigan apples?

I have a small hot sauce company and would like to use Michigan vinegar for one of the flavors. I grow all of the peppers and garlic for my sauces.

Organic would be ideal, but whatever so long as it is good quality. Some places have a minimum 55gal barrel, which I can’t get through at this point. I would be looking for more like 10-20 gallons.
