Is this normal that my period started like this for the past four months?? I’m 28 yd

I’m 29 F never had sex. I’ve tried a pixie cup the smallest size but I always had it leak and couldn’t ever get it to unsuction without immense pain. Because of this I never wore it outside of the house and it was so messy when removing. I have a super strong pelvic floor like I can push tampons out by popping. So I was just wondering what the best option is for me with a possible pull tab if that’s the best option. If it’s possible with my pelvic floor auto empty.

Hi! So I purchased my first disc, the Hello disc and after watching hours of content about discs, I am convinced it is not user error and that it is simply too large for my anatomy. It almost works, but it is crampy and makes me feel constipated as there is a lot of pressure. (I believe the 68mm diameter is just too big)

Any tips on a great option with easy removal? I believe I have a fairly low cervix if that helps. I'm tempted by the Lumma, but idk if I should go medium or small, or if I should choose another brand entirely.

I’ve been using my Pixie cup for about a year now and still get leaks every cycle.

I started using the disc when I restarted my period after being on the injection and period free for 5 years and getting grossed out at sitting in my blood when using pads and then hearing about all the heavy metals and pesticides in tampons.

I haven’t tried a cup but the suction scares me as I already have painful periods and cramps and have heard they can make this worse.

As my period has been slowly getting more regular (and heavier) over this last year the leaks seem to be getting worse and some days I can’t even go an hour without leaking. I use the Pixie applicator and can tell that my placement should be correct (sometimes I can feel if it’s not quite in the right place as it pushes on my pelvic bone and then I readjust). On rare occasions I do get the “bubble” feeling or feel it pop out if I stretch or sit in a weird position (I’m hypermobile and audhd so I do sit weirdly quite often lol) but even when I don’t noticeably feel it move I still get leaks to the point of having to wear period underwear for a week straight, which sort of defeats the whole point of not wearing pads for me personally (and I can’t wear cute trousers or dresses with heavy flow period pants).

All the quizzes i’ve tried give me a different answer about what might work and all say “your cup might be too big or too small” but how do I know which one it is?? I think I have a slightly high cervix (hard to measure as I have long nails that I am not willing to cut/trim just for this) and I do have a prominent pelvic bone so I know that’s not a problem.

I just can’t work out why it keeps leaking. Is it just that the capacity is not enough? I don’t want to have to dump it every 2 hours if possible 😅

I’m considering buying the large Shordy disc as this is about £10 on amazon and apparently holds 60ml but if it then turns out I need a smaller size than the medium Pixie, a small Pixie or Saalt are some of the only options with a smaller diameter (from what i’ve seen) and the Pixie only holds 18ml and the Saalt holds 30ml which I really can’t imagine lasting more than a couple hours (my current disc holds 30ml apparently). I just don’t want to buy something else that turns out to be the wrong size again and be another £30 down. The large Pixie seems to be a much larger diameter but still only holds 35ml?? Again I just don’t want to spend nearly £20 on one disc that ends up being wrong or not enough capacity.

Sorry this is such a long post but any advice would be hugely appreciated and if anyone has a cheat sheet for finding out your size please share! I don’t think I can watch any more tiktoks of plastic vaginas 😂

I'm sorry for the wall of text, but I'm mostly posting this because I'm scared, boss.

I'm on day 2 of my period (technically day 3 since its past 12AM), and I noticed an offensive odor coming from my menstrual blood after emptying my disc this morning. I had it in for about 13.5 hours while sleeping, maybe 14. that was the first time I had it in for more than 12 hours, and also the first time I have noticed a foul odor coming from my blood. a smell like when your pads start getting old. a musky, vaguely fishy, rotting sort of smell.

like a dummy, I put a different disc back in immediately after since im still new to discs. I had that disc in for about 10 hours, until I looked up what could be causing the smell. I of course got spooked by the possibilities, and immediately got in the shower to take it out, and switched to a pad. the smell was still present when I took it out in the shower.

some things I saw on google said that it could possibly develop into bacterial vaginosis, which I am very nervous of even though I know it isn't super serious. I didn't notice any discomfort while urinating before or after removing the disc, and there isn't any itching. it is a bit sore inside, just a slight sting, but I also have a tight pelvic floor and was a bit rough when removing the disc.

basically, what are the odds looking like? I've never had problems like this before and have never done anything to affect my vagina's bacterial balance, so should this all clear up? has anyone else had this problem, and did it turn out alright?

also, the discs smell. its noticeable. should I just boil them for about 5 minutes? if the smell persists after boiling, what do i do to get them clean? they're too young to die...

I just finished my first cycle using the Hello Period Menstrual Disc and I wanted to share my experience as someone with a heavy period. For context, on my heaviest days (usually day 1 and 2), I typically have to change a tampon every 2-3 hours and sometimes leak out of my maternity pad in the middle of the night.

My main reasons for trying a disc was the auto-dumping feature :P and the ability to wear it for long stretches, especially overnight. I’d always avoided menstrual cups/discs because the idea of cleaning them at work turned me off. Plus, I’ve always wished I could wear tampons overnight for that clean morning removal, but obviously couldn't because of the safety risks.

On first insertion, I was worried I would place it wrong and it would leak everywhere, but you can legit feel it ‘click’ into place when it’s placed correctly. That said, the learning curve for insertion is very real. My first few attempts were very tricky, and while tutorials suggested using two hands to fold the disc, but it’s such an awk position I could only use 1 hand, one time even took me 8 mins to insert, I was sweating lol. On my first night wearing the disc, it leaked a lot, it couldn’t hold all my period overnight, which was a real shame as this was one of the main reasons for purchasing the disc.

Because of how my cervix sits, I’m able to auto-dump, but my expectations for how clean it would be were a bit off. I imagined a mess-free experience where everything just poured out clean like peeing. In reality, auto-dumping on heavy days is actually quite messy, and doing it at work required a lot of toilet paper to clean-up (would have preferred to shower). Auto-dumping also isn't guaranteed, 1. Depending how your cervix sits 2. Depending on your flow’s consistency. If your period is thinner and watery, it works well, but if it’s thicker, the blood stays trapped in the disc, which led to leaking. Also, I felt myself being on constant high alert with the disc, checking if I’ve auto dumped after each pee, going to the bathroom a lot more often - whereas a tampon, you just set a timer/keep your eye on the time and change often.

Another unexpected adjustment was feeling every single physical sensation. Because tampons absorb blood internally, you don't usually feel the flow. With a disc, you can literally feel the dripping into the disc. It tricks your mind into thinking you’re about to leak through your clothes - even when you’re completely secure, so getting used to that sensation takes time.

I went into this with very high expectations after doing tons of research and reading glowing reviews, genuinely believing it would solve my heavy/messy periods problems, but that just wasn't my reality. For me personally, it seems like a lot more work and not receiving the results I wanted. Having your period is already a lot of work, emotionally and physically, adding this disc into the mix doesn’t benefit me right now. It seems like the disc did the opposite of what I wanted it to do - I was scared it’s going to leak (cause you could feel it), it leaking overnight, going to the bathroom more often to auto dump, harder insertion/big learning curve. It might sound obvious, but I’ve never been so up close and personal with my vagina. You are constantly inserting, checking, removing, and reinserting. You be touching your own blood. I would maybe recommend the disc for someone who doesn’t want to use tampons anymore for the health risks they provide (that wasn’t one of my reasons) or someone with a light/medium period, not a heavy period.

i had a mishap today (dropped my disc in the toilet 🫤) and had to use a disposable disc for the day since my reusable needed to be cleaned.

when i went to remove the disposable one and switch it out to my regular, i realized atleast a quarter of it was literally in my vaginal canal...

i haven't had any issues with the reusable one sliding out of place, it doesn't even auto dump when i use the bathroom.

am i supposed to insert or tuck the disposable one differently or something? i did it like normal and it felt fine, i have no idea what i did wrong!!!

this makes me scared for the future, the only reason i didn't have a leak is because my flow was extremely light. but i'm terrified that if i ever have to use a disposable disc again, on a heavier day, it'll literally slide out of me and leak everywhere 🥲

I accidentally left my flex disk in for 14 hours😭😭😭I have a history of recurring BV which is why I switched to the disc in the first place, I’m not smelling fishy and the disk itself doesn’t have any abnormal odor. I put a new one in and I’m not feeling itchy or anything like that. I’m just feeling super paranoid so someone reassure me that this isn’t a big deal 😅😅damn you adhd!!!

Due to an injury from delivering my oldest I can no longer use tampons or cups, it is too uncomfortable/painful. Thought I was stuck using pads/period underwear. Decided to give discs a try, got a pack of the flex disposables and was hooked! Got the reusable one, but I am noticing that I leak constantly, and not just a little bit. I do wear period underwear, but I just hate the feeling so much and don't want to have to change my underwear a million times a day.

I do have a slight posterior vaginal prolapse, so I don't know if I just can't use them reliably, or if I am doing something wrong. I followed the directions and as far as I can tell I am inserting it correctly.

When I go to empty it there is some blood in the disc but it's definitely not full, but maybe it just all leaked out, but it will only be a few hours after I emptied it. I don't think my flow is that heavy but it is possible. Just looking for maybe some tips or troubleshooting tips I can try to resolve this. Thanks all!

I started using the Hello disc yesterday and am already obsessed. I started early in the day at work and didn't bring it with me, so I wore a tampon most of the day. A few days ago someone on here suggested I buy a microwaveable disc cup for sterilizing, so I did and it just so happened that it had arrived right before I got home! After sterilizing and putting the disc in for the first time at like 5:30, I was instantly in awe because I couldn't feel ANYTHING. I can feel it even less than a tampon, which I've been wearing for like a decade.

I was so happy with it that I decided to empty and wear it before bed, and I slept with it in for a full night. I was perfectly comfortable the whole night, unlike usually when I have to worry about a giant pad slipping around or getting bunched up and not collecting my heavy flow. And I flop around at night a lot, so I was very surprised at how comfortable I was. It also didn't leak at all! When I woke up to shower I just took it out, dumped it, rinsed it off with hot water while I shower (I like to let my downstairs "breathe" for a while, meaning I keep it empty while I shower), rinsed it with hot water again, and reinserted. I've been awake for about 4 hours now and haven't felt it at ALL the entire time!!

The Hello disc's tab is also perfect for me. I don't even have to flip it, cut it, etc, it just stays comfortably in place near my entrance and I can find it super easy. And the disc being bright pink makes me feel kind of cute?

I've never used a disc or even a cup before, I've always been too scared to try them or worried they wouldn't hold my flow. But this is so extremely comfortable for me. I'm even wearing a liner and it hasn't been needed yet. My biggest fear was always being unable to remove it, but the tab helps with that.

The only issue I've had is a lot of air coming out, so I learned it's good to give the bottom of the disc a little bump with my finger to let the air out before continuing with my day. I also don't know how to auto-dump yet but that's something I'll work on with time maybe.

All in all, this is to say: if you wanna try discs for the first time, do it! I feel great, and it's really nice knowing I'm just going to keep this and reuse it until it's broken. I feel like I'm keeping a lot of waste out of landfills WHILE ALSO making my life easier. I'm considering donating a lot of my unused period products or giving them to friends (I have a LOT of stuff I haven't used yet)

Hi guys, I have a genuine question since I’m pretty new to using discs and this is my first time I need to figure out something like this. I’m going to a music festival in two weeks and I’m most likely going to get my period right on the first day. I can’t use pads since they always give me a rash and I don’t know how to practically and hygienically use a disc because I’ll be staying in a tent for 5 days. There will be ceramic toilets ofc but they are only nesr the camp area and there will be mostly TOI TOIs. How can I clean a disc to prevent bacteria growth when I don’t have a steamer near me and I can’ boil them? Should I take a spare one with me? I’ll be thankful for any tips <3

i use the reusable flex disc with basically no issues except at night. i can wear it all day through work, lounging, gym, etc with no leaking or issues but it keeps leaking at night. i insert it the same way as i do during the day. also my periods aren’t super heavy so i never fully fill the cup so its not an overflow issue. any ideas?

I am a trans guy, so this sucks already-

i started using discs cause you can wear them for a really long time and you cant really feel them, except every time i pee it like takes a lot of effort? and then all the blood from the disc comes out, and it gives me a heart attack for a second cause it looks + feels like im peeing blood. is there like a fix for this? it’s sort of annoying.

also, when inserting, it feels like there’s something in the way that hurts when pressed? i’m rather unfamiliar with the anatomy there so i’ve got no clue what it is. i’ve figured out how to put it in at the right angle and stuff but i was just wondering about that.

Going on a sex weekend and will have my period (when I planned this weekend a few months ago my cycle was different for reasons that are too long and boring to explain). I’m going to get my period on Friday and I’m only there fri - sun, unfortunately my partner is not down with period sex for reasons also too long to explain. Im a diligent cup user and my neighbor mentioned she can have sex on her period with the disc! So I ordered some. What are the chances there won’t be a leak if I get the guts to give this a shot? Any and all advice and experiences welcome!!

Decided to try the Flex disposable because I can always feel tampons and they're super uncomfortable.

First time didn't manage to get it hooked behind my pelvic bone so I pulled it out and tried a new one again. Got it in properly and properly tucked up (it was the weirdest sucking sensation when it finally just slipped up and popped open), but it was pretty uncomfortable. No pain but my cramps immediately got worse, and I had a hard time peeing and pooping because there was so much pressure in my pelvis.

I also tried to sleep with it in and it felt like it was constantly popping even without me moving which kept me awake. When I finally went to take it out after a few hours, it was still securely in and behind my pelvic bone. I didn't leave it in long enough to figure out if it leaked. I want to get another option that actually works as my honeymoon is coming up in a few weeks (you know :) and I want to actually enjoy it without the discomfort that tampons and pads cause.

I have a low cervix (a little less than an inch inside my vaginal canal on my period) and pretty tight pelvic floor muscles from years of dancing. I'm generally pretty sensitive to things in my vagina and have never had penetrative sex. What should I try? I got conflicting answers from the disc quizzes.

Hello fellow ladies, so I know embarrassingly little about my vagina, nobody ever really taught me how tampons or stuff like that works, only ever pads. im on my period and I really want to go to the lake but every time ive used tampons it never goes in fully and it always burns, im not sure if im putting it in the wrong hole or not but either way now im too scared for tampons, so I got the flex discs along with some lube, but im looking at tutorials and im thinking, how am I supposed to get that deep in there??

I tried it myself and literally no matter how hard I was pushing this thing in it felt like something was blocking it, and the very small part that I did get in burned like something was rubbing against it, which was the whole reason I wanted these, because they wouldnt feel like they were burning.

Maybe this is TMI, but I found where the hole was and kind of stuck my finger up there to see how the flex disc would go up but the disc literally WOULD NOT GO IN

Ladies, please help me, i dont want to ruin a lake trip, this is super frustrating and upsetting, I just want a good alternative to pads.

I attempted to use disc for the first time last month as recommended by my Dr, she said she heard a lot of patients rave about the flex disposable but when I attempted it last month it felt in place as I couldn't even feel it and was tucked behind my pubic bone but after getting home from running errands realized it became untucked. I know I have a slightly tilted cervix but don't know as to which way out y what not and I tried looking up to see what size the flex disposable are but can't find anything other than the mm size which is 2.76mm can anybody recommend what size I should try and of which brand? I would prefer disposable but am open to trying a reusable.

I’m EXTREMELY bashful with this question but I’ve read and read so many Reddit posts. So many articles. So many reviews and I can’t really find an answer for my specific question.

My boyfriend is a little on the larger side and we tend to go pretty hard and A LOT bc it’s a long distance relationship and we only see each other a week at a time when one of us can fly to the other. I’m looking into Flex discs. I’ve never used them before and I’m apparently going to have two periods during the month of his visit so I’m trying to figure out options. Second period is predicted to be his last four days here and my app is usually spot on. Does anyone else have experience with this? What are your recommendations? Are the discs something I should skip because of the rough sex or frequent “rounds”? Any help or insight to this would be greatly appreciated. I have zero experience with these. Lots of things I’m nervous about.

I just started a hormonal birth control that is making me have 2 week long periods (last month and this month) so I decided now would be the best time to try something new.

I ordered the Saalt Disc, Saalt wash and Saalt microwavable wash cup for disinfecting.

Overall I’m very pleased with everything. Putting the disc in for the first time was a little weird, but I’ve felt no pain or cramping. I’ve also had no leakage or ‘auto dumps’. I was a bit concerned when I sneezed yesterday but ultimately nothing leaked lol.

The Saalt wash doesn’t lather so it’s a little difficult for me to know if I’ve coated the whole disc but that’s my only complaint with it. I opted for the microwaveable wash cup because I travel a lot and thought it would be easier to use.

Overall 10/10 experience I don’t think I’ll be switching back to tampons anytime soon.

Hi all! I wanted to get into menstrual discs, so I did some research and bought the flex disposable for a low commitment test drive with the intention of trying to find whichever brand worked best for me. For reference, I am not on my period but it is coming very, very soon and I am regular. I tried flex on for size and it was immediately kinda uncomfortable (pressure/soreness) and would make it 90% of the way in but I couldn't get it to rest anywhere other than basically my opening. First problem seems to be firmness, and second appears to be size. However, I don't really know if I'm inserting it wrong, stressed, not accustommed, or am just folding it wrong/can't find my pubic bone (tho tbh not sure that's it, it's really tough to move once I get to the stopping point). also kinda felt a little like I needed to pee. before I started any of this, I checked and it seemed like I was reaching my cervix at 2/3 knuckles (but again, not quite on my period yet, don't know the influence).

What would people reccomed brand/product wise as a place to move forward? or any insight onto the source/fix for any of the problems I'm experiencing? Have also tried flex disposable while bleeding before I knew anything about discs and still felt quite firm then as well, but could have been a knowledge issue.

I started using the disc two days ago, and have and have succeeded for the most part on inserting it and having a leak proof experienced. However, on two occasions, once after 4 hours and once after 11 hours of having the disc in with no issues (not feeling it, no leaks and not full), it has slightly slid out making the blood pour out from the disc. Both times I was simply walking and felt it pop out.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Some useful(?) information:
- I use the diva disc, which has a lid and no auto-dumping feature
- The disc has never been close to being completely full, but i am on birth control so i might juste have a light flow
- There is always a significant amount of blood on top of the lid of the disc, but no blood on the outside other than that
- I think i have strong pelvic muscles because it slides out when i go 💩 and i feel like i could eject the disc if i contracted really hard.
