I created this map with the goal of creating fifty states with approximately equal populations by rearranging populations at the county level. The populations of the District of Columbia and the United States' territories were excluded, leaving a population of 341,091,212 (according to 2025 estimates) to be divided up. This meant that Los Angeles County and its 9.7 million people would become a state unto itself.

For the other forty-nine states, the goal became to get as close to the remaining average of 6,763,189 as possible while keeping states as compact and contiguous as possible. Currently, all states, excluding Los Angeles, are within 2% of that goal, and 36 states are within 0.5%. I'm still tinkering with state borders and names, but as things currently stand, here are your new 50 states:

I noticed for example Pakistan doesn’t exist in this map and I read that it was “created” by Britain so that India (Hindu) and Pakistan (Islam) can live separately without getting in each others grill all the time.

How does this happen and how does another country like Britain have any say at all in this?

Also: is this still happening today?

Just seems like an unusual thing where you can just move borders around and create new countries without a vote or anythingg?

This is one of the worst maps I have ever seen.

Points in favor of declaring an 8th continent:

1) It is 2 Billion people with a shared culture vs 700 million Europeans with a unique culture.

2) The continent sits on its own tectonic plate.

3) The Himalayas (8.8k max elevation) separate the continent from Asia vs the Urals (2k max elevation) for Europe.

4) Area: 7 millions sq km (2 million from transcontinental countries like Tibet and Myanmar) vs 10 million (4 million from transcontinental countries like Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkey)

OR

We can stop pretending that Europe is a continent.
