Beginner Need help building a Commander deck to ruin friends' combodecks/controldecks
We're a friendgroup of 5-6 players who slightly rotate, but with 2 core players every time since they are the most knowledgable and consistent in creating gamedays (We're all near 40y old).
While most of us love playing in general and it's all friendly, me and a few others of the occasional players prefer decks with boardstate, and the classic "I send creatures at your face and you respond" kind of players. The 2 main guys however, mainly although not always, play decks that mess with the rest of us without actually develop anything on board.
I can't pull all the deckstyles out of my head but it's:
- make it cost too much mana to attack them and decrease amount of mana per turn
- gift other players cards that throttle their development
- Storm decks that do nothing until they kill any or all of us in a single turn
- Graveyard decks that forces us to sac every turn or even every upkeep
And such. We've tried suggesting that we need to agree on a certain power level per deck so everyone has the same-ish decks, or to limit the amount of spell per turn per player to 3. But this is protested by the main guys in that they don't have fun limiting their deckbuilding and would rather not play or play something else then.
Which while fair, essentially would mean that gamedays for all of us would grind to a halt of the main guys would lose interest (Again we're all family dads so any gameday is better than no gameday).
So in the vein of "If you can't beat them, join them" I'd like recommendations for decks that mainly sit back and mess up the other players, while the only boarstate developed can be easily sacced or protected when necessary. bear in mind nearly every deck in our pod runs at least 2 forms of boardwipes.
I've been looking at some Death and Taxes decks which I understand are very unpopular to face.
The 3 EDH decks I play are Ur-Dragon, Orzhov counters with Ardbert as Commander and Teval Graveyard deck.
