I want to get a blue and gold macaw. What are some things i should be prepared for, and what should i buy?

Hi everyone. I've been doing research on different species of parrots as i want to get one and the one i've wanted the most since the start is a blue and gold macaw. I've loved every single one i've met despite the biting and the noise and the mess, and i want to have one in my life permanently.

What are things that you need to know about caring for a macaw, buying stuff for them, cleaning up after them etc. I know a lot of basic parrot knowledge, so i'm looking for stuff that's specific to macaws or to larger species in general, but any advice is appreciated. Even the smallest details help. Thank you!

Seeking advice. buyer took my Military Macaw after I tried to cancel the sale

Hello everyone, I’m looking for advice on how I can try to get my Military Macaw back.

On Saturday, 18 July 2026, I arranged for someone to buy my macaw. He came to my home, and we discussed her care, diet, behaviour, and paperwork. After payment was made, he tried to place her into his travel cage.

At that moment, I noticed my macaw was extremely stressed and frightened. I have cared for her for several years, she is very attached to me, and seeing her in that state made me feel that continuing with the sale was not the right decision.

I told the buyer I wanted to cancel the sale and offered to refund the full amount and cover any reasonable expenses he had. I asked several times for his bank details, but he refused.

The situation became confrontational. Despite me telling him to stop, he used a towel to try to catch my macaw. She became more distressed and flew towards me. When I tried to intervene, he grabbed my arm and pushed me, causing me to fall to the floor.

I was scared and alone in my home, and I stopped trying to physically prevent him from taking her because I was worried the situation would escalate.

He then took my macaw and left with her, even though I had clearly stated I no longer wished to proceed with the sale and was willing to refund him.

I am extremely worried about her welfare. She is not just an object to me; she has been part of my life for years.

Noted: I have contacted the police and RSPCA the told me that is a civil matter and won’t be able to assist me in order to bring my macaw back home.

I am totally devastated, any Advice will be welcome.
Thank you for reading this.

I thought my eclectus parrots were loud. But now Pongo, my macaw, is imitating their call at twice the volume!
