Document feedback on my 90-second GSL speech — Sweden

Post image
1 Upvotes

This is for my first MUN. Committee: UNCSW. Country: Sweden. Agenda: Roadmap to achieve gender equality by 2030 (with focus on reproductive healthcare for women in labour). Analyze this like a MUN coach. Tell me what to memorize, what to understand, what to skip, key statistics, Sweden’s stance, possible POIs, and speech-worthy lines.”

Question Choose my Opening Speech or even make it better!

  1. (You can shorten this)
“Chair — can I ask you something before I start? What do you think happens to a country when half its population is never allowed to finish school?

In 2012, a schoolgirl in Pakistan’s Swat Valley was shot in the head on her way to class. Not for breaking a law. For wanting an education. Her name was Malala Yousafzai, and she lived — but here’s the thing, Chair, for every name we remember, there are millions we don’t. Girls in Guatemala, in Malawi, in rural India, who don’t make headlines. They just quietly disappear from classrooms. Married off. Pulled out to work. Told, without anyone even saying it out loud, that school was never really meant for them.

And Spain has watched this happen for decades and frankly, we’re tired of watching it.

Because a girl who finishes school isn’t just a statistic that makes a report look better. She’s a future teacher. A future doctor. Maybe a future head of state. And every year we delay this, we’re not just failing her — we’re failing the country that needed her.”

CLOSING PITCH (Call for Collaboration)

“Delegates, Spain isn’t here to submit a working paper and call it a day. We’re here to build something that actually survives past this weekend.

We know Sweden’s been pushing hard on gender parity — we’ve read your papers. Kenya and Nigeria know what’s actually happening on the ground better than any of us sitting in this room ever will. And frankly, we can’t fund this alone — we need Germany, we need Japan, we need everyone who’s serious about this, not just the countries with it in their national interest.

So here’s Spain’s ask, plainly: if your delegation believes a girl’s education isn’t charity — it’s justice — come talk to us. Today. Not after the session, not tomorrow, today.

Because when you educate one girl, you don’t just change her life. You change who her children become. You change an economy. You change a country’s next fifty years.

Spain’s ready to put in the work. We just need to know — who’s coming with us?”

  1. Honourable Chair, distinguished delegates, what kind of future are we building if millions of girls are still denied the right to learn?
The delegation of Spain firmly believes that education is not a privilege—it is a fundamental human right and the foundation of sustainable development. Yet millions of girls in developing countries remain out of school due to poverty, conflict, discrimination, and child marriage.
Spain supports expanding access to quality education by increasing investment in schools, providing scholarships for girls, and strengthening teacher training with a focus on gender equality. We also encourage international partnerships to improve digital learning and ensure safe, inclusive classrooms for every girl.
Spain calls upon all member states to work together so that every girl, regardless of where she is born, has the opportunity to learn, lead, and shape a better future.
    Thank you.

So I am applying for MUN for the first time in my life and I don't know which country to choose. What would you recommend?

I chose WHO, HCR and UNEP.

I would appreciate it a lot if you explained what I would do there and gave some tips on how to prepare for it.

Guides An EC worth looking into for MUN/social impact: LSE Generate Global Innovation Challenge (50% off code inside)

Anyone here looking to add a solid, internationally recognized extracurricular to their college apps should definitely check out the LSE Generate Global Innovation Challenge (LGIC). It’s run in partnership with LSE Generate—the entrepreneurship hub at the London School of Economics—and Crimson Education.

It’s an online pitch competition for high schoolers (ages 13–18) where you identify a problem in your community and pitch an innovative solution tied to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A few reasons why it’s actually a really strong addition to an activity list:

🏆 Up to $3,000+ in Cash Prizes & Rewards

There’s a total prize pool featuring cash prizes (up to $1,000 for 1st place), virtual internships with LSE Social Enterprise Founders, and official certificates of achievement to back up your portfolio.

🤝 Direct LSE & Expert Mentorship

You don't just pitch and leave. Top participants get direct 1-on-1 mentorship sessions with industry leaders and startup founders from LSE Generate, which is massive if you're looking for guidance or strong recommendation context down the line.

📚 Global Publication

Every team's research and final proposal gets published on their global platform/website. Having tangible, published work attached to your name is one of the easiest ways to prove real-world impact on Common App or UC descriptions.

💡 Live Webinars & Skill Bootcamps

Even if you're completely new to pitching, registration gives you access to exclusive, expert-led webinars and bootcamps. They cover everything from identifying SDG-aligned problems to structuring a winning pitch deck.

🗓️ How the Rounds Work:

  1. Preparation Phase: Access webinars, resources, and pitch deck templates.

  2. Regional Qualifiers: You submit your pitch deck asynchronously.

  3. Live Global Finals: Top regional teams advance to pitch live on Zoom in front of expert judges.

🎟️ How to get 50% Off:

The standard entry fee is $20 USD, but if you enter the code AMB4713 at checkout, it cuts the price down to $10 USD (50% off).

For $10, getting live training, a published research entry, and LSE-backed credentials on your resume is pretty unbeatable for a low-cost EC.

Let me know if you have any questions about how to structure a team (you can go solo or in teams of 2–4) or pick a topic!

This video provides a complete overview of the LSE Generate Global Innovation Challenge process, pitch guidelines, and competitor expectations.

Question Research assistance required in delegating for Bangladesh

Hello, this is my 2nd MUN, in the first i delegated for Canada which is a pretty neutral country so it was kinda easy and got a verbal mention. This time I'm in CEDAW (Convention for Elimination of Discrimination Against Women) and I got bangladesh. Agenda is about morality laws in post conflict and conflict zones. I know the basic-ish info I need abt bangladesh as a country (I think) and crimes against women (Rohingyas, ahmaddiyas, female reporters etc) but it would be helpful if someone could help point out my portfolio's strongest and weakest points. I am extremely anti AI and refuse to use any form of it, even ecoGPT or anything so please don't rec that, it won't be appreciated or helpful in the slightest. I personally think a strong point for me would be the new Bangladeshi govt and how they seek to resolve entrenched issues but there could still be matters upon which I'd need to answer. Guides, books, films, videos, sites or any sort of study material would be highly appreciated. Also if u know, any sort of recent, (within the last 3-5 years) high crime against women and conflict which govt has/is neglecting could be told, that'd really be helpful.

Or just point me to names of websites I could read up on.
