Help Request: What am I looking at?

I have a few questions that hopefully someone here will have some answers for.

A friend of mine owns a game shop, picked up these boxes years ago. They've been sitting in a cupboard since, gathering dust until he found them last week and handed them off to me. His assumption was that I could use my cardmarket account to move them on, but that has sent me down a rabbit hole of further questions. So much strange pricing data and conflicting information has me questioning what I actually have and what it's actually worth, not what people are listing them for. Cardmarket has not been helping, as most items have no listings and bizarre pricing data.

My questions are this:

Are these actually worth anything?

Are there people who actually want these boxes enough to buy them?

Are there established routes to trade and sell these?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I really don't care to try and sell these off for silly money, I'm not some deluded Pokémon scalper that thinks everything is worth thousands. I just want some better insight from a community that has significantly more knowledge.

Thank you in advance.

Looking for older booster box valuations

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi. I have a few sealed booster boxes for the Enterplay cards that I've held onto for a while. I think I've finally decided to sell them. I was able to easily find comparable boxes on eBay and elsewhere for some, but for Defenders of Equestria and Friends Forever, I've had a difficult time. What I found on eBay really surprised me, several thousand for each. I've tried TCG player and cardmarket as well, but with so little on the market, it's hard to say. If anybody has any ideas on what's realistic to expect or who to talk to about it, I would appreciate it. Thanks everypony!

Primer Casual Getting into the game

Hi there, I have been doing some research on the game and I wanted to get into it a little late. I have a very very small collection and it's clearly getting harder to get cards. When it comes to enjoying the older cards/harmony format, am I good to play everywhere except in-person tournaments? I guess it bothers me, that small limiting factor. Any thoughts on the matter and should I really be discouraged? I was thinking of asking friends to play older formats with me so I could experience them.

MT Invitational 2026 Summary & Recap

Two and a half months and more than 20 hours of recorded CCG action later, the MT Invitational of 2026 has wrapped up. Congratulations to Bugle, our champion for this year, and also for every competitor, especially those who competed for the first time this year.

These are tournament placements for 2026. The top 4 finishers have earned points that will count towards their qualification for next year’s event.

  1. Bugle (18 points)
  2. Bigcheese (10 points)
  3. Smithers (5 points)
  4. anamoy (2 points)
  5. Pancake
  6. Andrew
  7. Golden Note
  8. Brandon Pagano (dropped pre-tournament)

One big change for this year was the running a "Last-Chance" Qualifier tournament immediately preceding the competition in January. We had good attendance for that, so that is going to be returning next year.

Changes For Next Year

In prior years, the first place finisher was given an automatic invite to next year’s event, but that’s being changed this year. (Though the 18 points that Bugle will receive would have been enough to qualify for every previous running of the tournament.)

This year, we ran into a situation that had never happened before with the tournament, where we very nearly didn’t have eight people with points who were able to compete. Luckily for us, in the end we did manage to get eight people together, but for a while before the tournament started, that appeared to be very much in doubt. (And even as things stood, Brandon had to drop before play began.)

The biggest issue that this would have caused for us, aside from reducing the amount of content that could be created, was that the process of randomly seeding the double elimination bracket only really works with a player pool that is a power of 2 in size. Any attempt at creating some sort of bracket for 7 or fewer players would either have created unfair advantages or created the risk of being unable to properly assign players into it.

Therefore, for 2027, the Invitational will be using a seeded bracket, with the amount of points that a player accumulates throughout the season determining the seeding. In its way, this might create some extra drama in the tournaments leading up to the event, as now points matter even above and beyond crossing the threshold required to qualify. But it also means that if we have to use a more exotic bracket due to having an odd number of players, we’ll be able to assign things properly. And the upshot is that the 1st-place finisher has to receive points this year, rather than just an automatic invite.

Compendium Of Content

In case you missed any of our streams or videos this year, here are all of them gathered together for your viewing pleasure.

Special Thanks

The Invitational is a labour and a big show to pull off, and as ever I need to thank everyone who helps to make it happen, from the players who make time in their lives for deckbuilding and play, to the commentators who join me on streams. An extra special thank-you to Hithroc this year, who assisted with recording some of the games!

Our commentators:

  • Andrew (QB1, QB3, UF)
  • Hithroc (QB2, SF2, UF)
  • Pancake (QB2, GF)
  • Grand Pause (QB3)
  • Bugle (SF1, GF)
  • Bigcheese (LBSF, GF)

Looking Ahead

The schedule seemed to work out reasonably well this year, so there will be no changes to that for 2027. That means that the next Last Chance event will be in January of 2027, with the tournament itself likely starting by the end of Februrary once again. See you all next year!

Silver Spanner #44 Wrap-up

This silver spanner was run through the Discord server, so the details can be found there. Here's a link to the first post about it if you're interested, but I will re-iterate it here as well, and give the results.

This Silver Spanner was run by Tom. The Reddit post was made by Andrew (Undeadninjas), with very minor edits to improve aesthetic clarity.

Silver Spanner #44 — Old and New

Your Deck must be Harmony legal.

(EDIT to add clarity)

Your Problem Deck and Draw Deck must each be split evenly between "old" cards (not Adventure legal) and "new" cards (Core-legal).

Thus, your Problem Deck must include 5 "old" and 5 "new" cards.

If your Draw Deck (including Sideboard) has 50 cards, it must have 25 "old" and 25 "new" cards. Notably, your Draw Deck (including Sideboard) must have an even number of cards so that an even split is possible.

You Mane must be "old".

A card is "old" iff it is from one of the following sets:

  • Premier
  • Canterlot Nights
  • Rock and Rave
  • Celestial Solstice
  • Crystal Games
  • Promotional (includes just 2 cards)
  • Absolute Discord
  • Sands of Time

A card is "new" iff it is from one of the following sets:

  • Leaders and Legends
  • New Dawn
  • Fond Memories
  • New Generation
  • Tales of Light
  • Prize Wheel

Signup ends: Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 10:00 AM
DM me to join or if you have questions.
Decklists must be submitted before playing Round 1.

participants so far:

  • Andrew
  • lucia
  • Prism Light
  • Tom

Since we are only 4 players, I will announce all 3 rounds here. Playing out of order is allowed but discouraged. Please remember to submit your Decklist before your first Round and also send it to your opponent.

Round 1 (to be finished 29th March 2026):

  • @lucia vs @Prism Light (Prism Light won)
  • @Andrew vs @Tom | Germany (Andrew won)

Round 2 (to be finished 5th April 2026):

  • Prism Light vs Tom (Tom won)
  • Andrew vs lucia (Andrew won)

Round 3 (to be finished 12th April 2026):

  • Andrew vs Prism Light (Andrew won)
  • Tom vs lucia (Tom won)

CiM Presents “Design Philosophy Throughout the Years” this Sunday, April 19th at 7:00 PM Pacific!

Good evening, everypony!

We’ve made mentions of the changes in design philosophy over the course of the game’s history, but these mentions have only scratched the surface. It’s easy to see that cards from Premier and cards from Tales of Light have different design philosophies, but the details of how we got from one to the other lies in the changes seen between blocks. Some may be obvious, but a lot of them are more subtle than you’d think! There’s a lot that goes into design, so be ready for a history lesson with a lot of analysis!

Join us this Sunday, April 19th at 7:00 PM Pacific as we look at the design philosophy of each block to see how and why things have changed so much over the years!

https://twitch.tv/commentaryismagic
