The elevated walkways of the UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago) campus in Chicago, IL, connected every part of the main campus and were a vital part of the original brutalist master plan designed by Walter Netsch and built in the late 1960s. They were torn down starting in 1993 due to decades of cold weather damage, deferred maintenance, and crime concerns. There were also a network of tunnels below, but these were filled, sealed, or blocked off around the same time as the walkways demolishing.

Used as a final resting place for members of the Hohenzollern family, it was intended to resemble more of a museum. It housed both the coffins of notable Prussian Kings and a plethora of memorials, with one memorial being dedicated to Bismarck. Demolished in 1975 by the GDR. Reconstruction talks never materialized.

Taksim Military Barracks, Istanbul, Turkey

Photo legend: A battery of the 1st Artillery Brigade during drill at the Taksim Artillery Barracks (Turkish: Taksim Topçular Kışla-i Hümâyûnu'nda 1.Topçu Tuğayı bataryasi talim sırasında)

Photo: Frères Viçen, Hovsep & Kevork Abdullah

Architect: Krikor Balyan

Construction 1803-1806

The Taksim Military Barracks were located at the site of the present-day Taksim Gezi Park next to Taksim Square in Istanbul. It was built in 1806 in Neo-Ottoman style.

In 1940, the historic barracks were demolished to make way for Gezi Park. Decades later, this very site has become the epicenter of a fierce political and cultural battle.

President Erdoğan’s administration has repeatedly pushed to build a replica of the barracks — potentially to house a shopping mall or hotel — directly contesting the park’s status as a powerful symbol of secular resistance since the 2013 Gezi Park protests.

Critics denounce the project as "neo-Ottoman kitsch" and an erasure of republican history, while the original blueprints remain largely lost, making any reconstruction a modern fabrication rather than a true restoration.

the church was demolished from the way of a larger one.

the demolition was highly contested by the puplic. But due to the climate of the era, the church was decided to be demolished in favor of a modernistic stone one designed by the famous finnish archtect Alvar Aalto.

When renovating the pipes in 2015, it was revealed that the building had mold and moisture problems. It was demolished in 2018 against the pirkanmaa agriculture museums directors desired for an alternative fate and partial preservation.

Used for a variety of purposes after the exposition, Coca cola demolished everything except for the the tower in 1939. I'm not sure when the tower was finally removed.
