I've seen a lot of cool prints here done with this technique, so I wanted to have a go at it myself. There's spots I want to fix, but overall these test prints went way better than expected. Caligo Safe Wash Ink on Hosho Paper.

I made a big carving mistake on the third layer and decided to just make design choices on the fly and push through. I'm pretty happy considering, but I'll likely try this again.

Technically my second, but this is my first personal project. Any tips are appreciated!! I got one of the speedball kits from Micheal’s but I might upgrade if I get really into it. Do the speedball blocks last? It’s easy to cut but feels a bit flimsy

This is meant to be a flag design. Hopefully it captures the spirits of heraldry and whimsy in equal measure! I’m still learning this art medium so I included some of my process shots- the paint markers helped a lot with figuring out how to layer detail and what was realistic/feasible as a carving.

There is a little neighborhood Free Art Exchange Gallery that I found nearby that I am hoping to add these to as offerings. Definitely on the hunt for a piece of glass/mirror to use for the ink transfer.

Question First Linocut!

Post image

This is my first Linocut, it's for my dad's birthday. He's gotten really into rock hounding, polishing rocks and making stuff with them. It's super cool, so I made this logo type thing for him to print onto the pocket area of a T-Shirt. I buffed it on the O in rocks, but could use any advice! I'm wanting to carve a bit more out of it but did the first test run. I used a different ink for this but plan on using Speedball Fabric Block Printing ink on his t shirt. Is there any way I can fix the O? All tips very appreciated:)

I made these among others all over the last year. They are water-based ink on cardstock. 3 originals, 3 reproductions. I enjoy linocut as a hobby. While not perfect, putting them in frames really made me enjoy seeing them as more than just milestones. Enjoy! Let me know what you think.

1st image is original titled "Standoff", 2nd is a repro of "Girls in the Window" by Ormond Gigli, 3rd is original titled "Of my Wife", 4th is a repro of "the Lunatic of Étretat" by Hugues Merle, 5th is original titled "Envire", 6th is a repro of "the Magic Circle" by John William Waterhouse

Question Little dude lino from 95

Rescued this from the trash when I worked at a thrift store eons ago because they were only going to put the frame out on the floor. It just pulled my heartstrings and made me happy to look at partially *because* it’s crooked, rough, and has a spot of trash on it. It looks like hand cut stamps printed with poster paint? Can anyone tell me more about it?

My own little guy wanted to make a mat for it so we used washi tape to improvise without damaging it.

Question Please help with linocut image transfer

I tried using nail polish remover with acetone to transfer an image to my rubber. The image transferred pretty nicely, but so much of the paper got stuck tot he rubber and is hard to remove without also removing/rubbing off the image. What did I do wrong?

Question Oil Based Speedball Ink on Newsprint. Help Wanted.

Thumbnail

This is my first time using oil based ink for Linocut printing. There are not a lot of places nearby that sell printmaking supplies.

I pulled a pretty good test print on the yellow newsprint and pretty rough looking one on the target paper newsprint. I ordered burnt plate oil.

Is there anything I can use or any tips that will work in order to get a smoother print?

I am wanting to submit this for a show, but I am running out of time.

I am not looking for design critique. I think it’s rad.

Thanks.

Question First Fabric Print, Help?

Thumbnail

so these are my test prints for fabric. I did use fabric specific ink, and I followed all the instruction. I did multiple layers of ink and let it dry in between before pressing, made sure it was the right stickiness. I sprayed the fabric with water before hand to help with adhesion. I even did one without water just to see if that made a difference. I don’t know why I’m getting this weird ripple effect! is it because I need to buy a press instead of using my hands/feet to press? I used a board to make sure the pressure was even, I tried different amounts of pressure to see if that made a difference, it did not. what am I doing wrong? otherwise I feel like it came out okay, but it’s just a strange issue I’ve never had before
