I would strongly caution anyone considering Liberty University for an aviation degree, especially if your goal is to qualify for the FAA Restricted ATP (R-ATP) 1,000-hour pathway. My experience has been incredibly frustrating and has left me feeling like there was no consistent guidance or accountability. Throughout my time at Liberty, I contacted academic advisors when registering for terms because I relied on the university to tell me which courses I needed, yet I was repeatedly advised to take classes that ultimately did not help me meet the R-ATP requirements I was working toward. I even took multiple summer courses based on the understanding that I was nearing completion, only to later have another class unexpectedly added and my graduation delayed until December. After investing years of time and a significant amount of money, I was ultimately told that I was six aviation credits short of qualifying for the 1,000-hour R-ATP pathway and was instead approved for the 1,250-hour pathway. What makes this especially upsetting is that my transcript contains additional aviation coursework, including courses that appear on Liberty’s FAA-authorized aviation coursework list, yet some of those credits were not included in the credit calculation provided to me. Rather than receiving a clear, detailed explanation of exactly why each course did or did not count, I have encountered confusing answers, delays, dead ends, and what I felt was a dismissive and unhelpful response from leadership when trying to resolve the issue. Based on my personal experience, it seems that different advisors did not consistently understand or communicate the R-ATP requirements, despite students making major educational and financial decisions based on their guidance. If you are considering Liberty specifically for R-ATP eligibility, I strongly recommend independently verifying in writing, before enrolling in or paying for each course, exactly which credits will count toward your intended FAA pathway. I wish I had done that from the beginning instead of trusting that the university would ensure my degree plan aligned with the R-ATP pathway I was pursuing. Honestly, I would advise not even attending there with their lack of consideration towards students.

Can anyone share how long this process takes? I am frustrated with the circular answers I am getting from the LU representative texting me right now. They asked me to submit my transcripts and their form (unofficially) but are now saying that the process could take 5 weeks and won't be completed until they review official transcripts. What is the point of submitting unofficial transcripts then? Has anyone been through this? Their PhD program requires courses that are, nearly word for word, repetitive of courses I have taken at the graduate level. Is everything with LU this frustrating?

I recently completed my bachelors program all online with a significant amount of transfer credits from a previous associates degree. I am looking to apply to masters elsewhere mostly because of program offerings. Has anyone had experience in recommendations from your online professors who likely don’t really know you? We are numbers to them, IMO.

What do people normally wear? Is there a different dress code that you should follow in class vs outside of class? I've heard the dress code is very strict, mainly for women, where shoulders can't be shown, no jeans, no shorts, no graphic tees, no sweaters, and no casual shoes... Basically, I'm wondering if there's any wiggle room with these rules or if you'll get dress-coded on sight if you wear a sweatshirt with jeans and casual shoes in or outside of classes. I've also heard that it depends on the RA or the Professor. Would you say most of them are casual and don't really care too much about the dress code (unless it's really inappropriate), or is there no telling where it's best to be safe? Also, what should be worn to work out?

I know this is a ridiculous thing to be concerned about but I recently received a B+ for a class and I’ve been a bit anxious that this one grade has killed any shot I had at receiving my gold cords for honors. All the rest of my grades are As currently and I am wondering if It’s still possible to get a 3.95+ if I continue to get all As and only have the one B+.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my BA and my last masters I also had honors. It’s silly but it does mean something to me to finish at the highest academic level I can. This last class had a professor who graded harder than any other professor I have had and it felt like pulling teeth to even get the grade I did. I’m pretty bummed about it.

First and foremost, I am an active student at Liberty University. I was raised Anglican but have been atheist for a long time. With that being said, I do not mind attending a Christian-based university and I do not mind the undertones of such institutions. In fact, I have enjoyed my time learning with Liberty University and find the academics to be very informative and challenging. I do, however, think that the name Liberty University is a tad silly and would prefer the original name of Lynchburg University or maybe something else, but that's a digression from the meat and potatoes of this post.

Let us not beat around the bush here. Liberty University has an image problem and has had one for a long while, whether embroiled in controversy with both Falwell’s to the questionable occurrences on campus that make the news. The university has been the subject of concern for decades and has not been better for it. Instead of taking the critiques to heart and doing inward reflection on how to be a great institution of educational advancement first, the university has instead doubled down on their direction and have been unwavering when change is probably the best path forward.

Liberty University should be a place to achieve higher learning and as such should strive to provide and promote that doctrine. The fact that the university requires creationist courses and even has on campus a museum dedicated to young-Earth creationism is concerning and frankly discredits the entire science program. This alone provides just reason for other universities and even employers to think twice before considered Liberty as a credible institution for knowledge.

Just this semester, I was shown a video published by Liberty through Canvas wherein the professor stated, "We here at Liberty University are truly diverse ... we may believe and teach creation, but we also teach evolution though not as a truth". This one statement dismantles and nullifies the entire biology and geology program taught at Liberty.

In the previous semester, a professor stated that "you will be reading books with a "liberal viewpoint" but what I want you to do is parse through it and glean from it what is important". I read the whole book and nothing really stuck out to me as offending to the conservative southern baptist aside from acknowledging that same-sex people exist, but the class was a demography course so I guess those people should be excluded as they're "not important" to the material.

Finally I think that the leadership of Liberty University have too harsh of a grip on the "culture" of the university. Instead of building a place where knowledge is paramount and fostering an environment for people to grow and learn on their own along the way it promotes sheltering, misinformation, and by extension creates a bubble. From the outside, and even from within, Liberty seems to function as a tool of right-wing conservative Christian advocacy rather than a welcoming institution that is charged with advancing human knowledge and understanding.

Again, the school being Christian is not an issue and I do not mind attending a Christian school. The way in which the school leadership operates is the issue for which I believe should be addressed, as they are the ones who set the tone. There are plenty of old Christian universities, or at least universities that have their roots firmly in Christianity, that are well regarded. Why not look to those for inspiration?

I know it's posted all over that it can take so many weeks to get the official conferral email, but I wanted to ask those who have been here, how long did it take for you personlly to get the approved/conferral email once you finished classes? Once you got the pending conferral email? Does it vary by program/level of degree/time of year that you finish?

I just finished my undergrad certificate program (autism education) last week. My final grades were posted, classes officially ended 7/11, and I got the pending conferral email today (7/16). It really isn't urgent (before someone suggests asking for a rush) ... I'm genuinely just curious when to expect it. I did this program simply because I homeschool my autistic kids, not for anything career-based. And I know it's just a certificate/not a full degree, only spent 6 months doing it instead of years, but... this is the 5th time I've been enrolled in college (last attempt was over a decade ago & before I had kids), 1st time ever finishing anything! I only turned in 1 assignment late (the very first one due of the very first term & it was late by 15 minutes lol because it took me longer than anticipated, not because I just didn't do it when I was supposed to). I kept a 4.0 the entire time!! While homeschooling & managing appointments for all their therapies (plus all the appointments for my oldest who has a chronic illness)! I've never had a 4.0 in my life....not trying to toot my own horn here😅 I'm honestly just excited to see that "proof" that I did the dang thing, if that makes sense.

Hi ya'll, I would love some help on this. I want to do a Master's in English or Writing. I have two schools. Coastal Carolina, which is where I got my bachelor's, or Liberty, a school I have never been to. At Coastal, I know the staff, the area, and the campus, and I have clubs I can reconnect to meet people I don't know and reconnect with people I already know. But if you know anything about Coastal, it is a secular party school. I use 'party' loosely, since I didn't go to any, and they weren't worth the hype anyway.

Liberty is a Christian college, obviously, and the idea of living on campus, getting involved, meeting other Christians, living with other Christians, and attending convocation every week is so cool! Also, the Jesus-centered curriculum, where the class discussion is biblically related, is ideal to me because at Coastal, it was the complete opposite, and in the program I was in, I hated the topics of discussion.

My thing is I am scared I will encounter the same issue in my master's at Coastal, but will not encounter it at Liberty. However, I heard some horror stories about liberty, and the rules they have are kind of insane to me. Because when I hear them, the first thing I think is "I am an adult, I can do what I want," which I know colleges have their rules, but I am afraid that will be the biggest culture shock for me. I will likely have to live on campus, so I may literally be living with a freshman.

I know this is a lot, but I am seriously considering the two right now, since they are my only options, trust, they are my only options, and I would love some insight and advice. I am applying for next fall, so I have some time.

According to multiple Community College of the Air Force Advisors, these Sophia credits can now be applied to CCAF Degrees, as long as the courses are ON your degree plan. This is game changer because for over 6 years Sophia Learning has been considered "banned" by all military colleges.

So I finally have enough credits where I feel comfortable transferring to a four-year university from community college. Since I’m a Virginia resident, liberty seems like the obvious choice for me. I would save a lot of money by paying in state tuition plus doing their online program will save me a ton on housing expenses since I live with my parents (granted I’m 26).

before I commit to Liberty, I would just like to know what the classes are like and how much flying I can do, specifically out of Manassas airport? and how much the program will cost. What scholarships are available for online students? Honestly, my first choice was the university of North Dakota. I know how amazing their program is and their aircraft are maintained to a very precise level, but it would cost me about $40,000-$60,000 more in the end if I went there. I know there are other flight schools in Virginia but liberty interests me in particular since they are a United aviate affiliate. I hope to eventually fly for United one day so I think this would be a great opportunity. I’m also very interested in the RATP the FAA offers from accredited part 141 universities.
