In May 2026, India's Chief Justice Surya Kant called the country's unemployed youth "cockroaches." What began as satire — the Cockroach Janta Party, founded by Abhijeet Dipke — became a nationwide movement after it emerged that lakhs of students had their futures destroyed by NEET-UG paper leaks, with at least a dozen students dying by suicide in the aftermath. When Ladakh's Sonam Wangchuk joined a hunger strike in solidarity, and over 10,000 people marched peacefully toward Parliament demanding Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, the BJP government's police met them with tear gas and a lathi charge, injuring dozens. Protesters and witnesses allege women were assaulted and sexually harassed during the crackdown, and that Wangchuk's own wife was dragged by her hair. Meanwhile, in Manipur, houses and villages are still being burned in ethnic violence that has gone on for three years with no resolution from the central government — as recently as this month. We are asking the world to see this clearly: a government silencing its youth and abandoning its own citizens. We demand the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and accountability from government, resignation of CJI Surya Kant, an independent investigation into the police violence — including the assault allegations — and real, lasting government action to end the crisis in Manipur.
