I read numerous posts today on X from local lads in Manchester getting their season tickets cancelled on them after 20 odd years of going home and away.

And it really got me thinking, the big clubs in England and across the world are becoming quite soulless. I feel bad for their proper fans. Too much money involved in it nowadays.

Anyways, I’m grateful in a sense that our game over here isn’t as poisoned by money and corporate greed. Of course it would be great to see the league grow and improve financially but the League of Ireland still has that charm to it - and locals aren’t priced out as much. (Compared to the bigger leagues anyway).

Why is the gap between, in particular, the bottom 1/3rd of the First Division and the non-league teams so great now? I get that non-league teams are getting hammered by the likes of the full-time sides, but I wouldn't have expected the gap to be as big between the likes of Athlone and Longford, who are operating on a semi-pro basis and the non-league sides. I thought at least some non-league sides were also semi-pro; is it really just the misaligned calendar?
