CADL Downtown Lansing and Summit Comics and Games are partnering to host a graphic novel book club in Summit's event room (216 Washington Square, Lansing). This month we're meeting on 8/18, from 5:45-6:45 PM. Every month we’ll explore a different title, usually standalone or the 1st volume in a series from all different corners of graphic noveldom, whether it’s superhero, slice of life, nonfiction, or anything in between. This book club is intended for people 18+. You do not need a CADL library card to attend this group.

August's title is Absolute Wonder Woman Vol. 1: The Last Amazon written by Kelly Thompson and drawn by Hayden Sherman.

The Absolute series are a reimagining of core DC Comics characters with ongoing series that are separate from the main DC continuity.

This version of Wonder Woman has been raised in the Underworld by the witch Circe. Forbidden from teaching her about the Amazons, Circe raises her to be a compassionate and capable woman. Eventually, Diana's path leads out of the Underworld and into the world above, although without her famous mission to bring peace to the world (or invisible jet, for that matter) does this Wonder Woman have a different purpose? I moved to Michigan a few years ago when I escaped my parents that were trafficking me, due to my safety I had to drop out and escape before graduating. My credits are from out of state but I’m close to the minimum needed for graduating here. What can I do?

I usually like sitting around the middle of the theater, but I'm not sure of the IMAX screen size and how the seating is laid out for this IMAX in Lansing.

i work near the Texas roadhouse on edgewood and when i left to get lunch there were tons of police in the parking lot of edgewood town center, looks like there was some sort of event with pop up tents happening there. i saw at least five law vehicles with their lights on and several officers talking to different people. anyone know what’s going on? i’m nosy but i also work with kids and we’re pretty close so id like to know if it’s something dangerous👀

My friends I had the pleasure of visiting your town and riding around. We stopped at the Anderson Nature center to ride the trails. Saw a lot of interesting "dinosaurs, king kong, hyena" etc. lol. Whats the story with those ?

I want to preface this by saying this is in no way bashing the new establishment that will be mentioned, as I am only using it as an example for what HOPEFULLY is not to come in the city of Lansing.

Up and coming business owners… please do not make any of your signage, posters, menus, etc. with Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI has many uses, but conveying the products you are providing to your customers is NOT one of them.

It is distasteful, ugly, and a poor reflection on YOU as a business owner. I know many people, including myself, who think less of a business who make AI menus, including pictures of their food. It just isn’t appealing, and you are setting yourself up for failure.

Also, it sucks to see an already unappealing street such as MLK be littered with signage such as this one, and this is coming from someone who grew up on the south side.

Went to see The Odyssey at the new ncg Lansing IMAX theater and it was so incredibly loud the entire movie. We had to plug our ears around two thirds of the movie and felt physically sick afterward. If you're going I'd recommend some cotton balls or ear plugs.

When I was a kid I learned to swim in a holiday inn pool my parents paid either a small day rate or a monthly rate to use their pool. I want to do something similar with my son especially after summer is over to keep up on teaching him how to swim.

Something on the north/west side would be preferred as we live near the airport.

I live in a 2/2 aprt on my own. My renwal date is quickly approaching, the apartment complex sent a letter saying that that there are raising my monthly water bill to $100 a month. Ive spoken to ppl that live in houses with 3-4 ppl and they pay maybe 100$ a month as well. Ive asked them to show me the water meter to justify this supposed water usage. They never comply. The quality of the aprt grounds upkeep has gone down but they want to raise my rent while also taking away our laundry facilities, pool hours are till 5 pm and closed on Sundays, ridiculous. What i want to know, is there a department in Lansing that could investigate this complex.
